An Iranian effort to show rare openness about its disputed nuclear program is doing little to dispel Western suspicions about Tehran’s atomic ambitions, with one Vienna-based envoy dismissing it as just a „charm offensive.“
Diplomats said they believed the UN nuclear watchdog would once again highlight concern about possible military aspects to
Iran’s nuclear activities in its latest quarterly report, due to be submitted to member states in the next few days.

      1. TAGESANZEIGER – Iran treibt Atomwaffenprogramm voran

      2. RIA NOVOSTI Iran inches closer to nuclear weapons
Iran has acknowledged that it possesses new technologies that could bring it closer to developing nuclear weapons and more advanced missiles. The international community is finding it more and more difficult to restrain Tehran, and increasing the country’s political and technological isolation could have dire consequences.
        Smuggling to evade sanctions
Iran is now capable of producing carbon-plastic composite materials in violation of UN sanctions. Iran’s Defense Minister Ahmad Wahidi said his country is among ten nations in the world that can manufacture them. Associated Press quoted Wahidi as saying that this new capability will eliminate a bottleneck in Iran’s production of modern military systems.
Carbon-plastic composites play a key role in the production of modern solid-propellant rocket engines. Given Iran’s efforts to develop long-range solid-propellant missiles, Wahidi’s ostentatious announcement should worry detractors.
Composite materials are a highly sensitive dual-purpose technology, whose export to various „unreliable“ countries is closely monitored. Iran began to experience restrictions in its pursuit of this technology in 2004, but it apparently bypassed international sanctions by resorting to smuggling the necessary components.

        In Bunkeranlage installiert

    5. REALITE EU Iran’s Quds Force: Supporting Terrorism Worldwide
Last Wednesday, the European Union announced that it was introducing sanctions against Iran’s elite Quds Force on the grounds of its technical and material support to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria in his repression of the five-month-old uprising against his regime. [1]
On the same day, Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, the top US military spokesman in Iraq, declared that Iranian-backed militias represent the greatest threat to Iraq’s security, outpacing al-Qaida-linked terrorists. Maj. Gen. Buchanan pointed out that the Quds Force „is providing direct support to the militias in terms of manning, equipping, provision of intelligence.“ [2]
      Global reach
According to the US State Department, the Quds Force, „the external operations branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is the regime’s primary mechanism for cultivating and supporting terrorists abroad.“ [3]
On October 25, 2007, the US Department of the Treasury named the Quds Force a „specially designated global terrorist organization,“ freezing its assets under US jurisdiction and prohibiting transactions with US parties. Measures were also taken against several senior Quds officers, including the force’s commander Qassem Suleimani. [4]
The Quds Force’s activities are global: it has directorates for Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan; Afghanistan, Pakistan and India; Turkey and the Arabian Peninsula; Asian countries of the former USSR, Western nations (Europe and North America), and North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, and Morocco). 1. MARKETWATCHKonecranes Ends Business in Iran, Becomes Fifth Crane Manufacturer to Pull Out Following UANI Cranes Campaign
NEW YORK, Aug 31, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) on Wednesday applauded Finnish crane manufacturer Konecranes for ending its business in Iran. Konecranes is the fifth international crane manufacturer to pull out of Iran in response to UANI’s Cranes Campaign.
On August 18, UANI publicly called on Konecranes to end its Iran business. In response, Konecranes informed UANI that it had made the decision to „withdraw from the Iranian market“ and is now „systematically refus[ing] all opportunities to sell new equipment and services to the country.“
At UANI’s urging, Konecranes also informed UANI: „we have from our website removed all references to Iranian companies with which we have previously had business ties, including Sepahan Lifter and Fassan Co. All references to Konecranes will be removed from Iranian local dealers‘ websites.“
UANI applauded Konecranes for ending its business in Iran. Said UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:
UANI applauds Konecranes for ending its business in Iran. Konecranes shares UANI’s objections to Iran’s brutal execution binge, and by pulling out of Iran, it sends a powerful message. Konecranes and other corporations are showing the Iranian regime that its economy will continue to suffer unless Iran renounces its pursuit of nuclear weapons, ceases its egregious human rights violations, and ends its sponsorship of terror.
UANI’s „Cranes Campaign“ highlights the Iranian regime’s abhorrent record of public executions by hanging citizens from cranes. On July 6, Ambassador Wallace, in a Los Angeles Times op-ed, „Iran’s Execution Binge,“ detailed the Iranian regime’s use of foreign construction cranes for public hangings and called on crane manufacturers to „take the principled stand of renouncing their business ties with the regime until Iran becomes a civilized member of the international community.“

    1. NIRBOMSTales of riots and human rights

Following a week of riots across England, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a warning to its citizens not to visit the UK. The Foreign Ministry advised Iranians to avoid troubled areas and Sardar Naghdi, the head of Basij units, even offered to send Basiji Brigades to England to help restore order. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who initiated a number of media interviews on the subject, demanded UN intervention.
It is interesting to note that a similar travel warning was not issued for Syria, where over 3000 protesters were killed in recent weeks by Syrian security forces. Perhaps the fact that Iranian weapons were used to „maintain order“ in Syria is a good enough reason not to raise the issue. Just last week, Turkey informed a UN Security Council panel that it seized a second cache of weapons that Iran was attempting to deliver to Syria, in breach of the UN arms embargo.
Iran’s President Ahmadinejad will attend the UN General Assembly in September. He will likely take advantage of the opportunity to complain about the lack of international response to the human rights violation in London as compared to the aggressive and unjustified international response to the events in Syria. He may even provide some insight into his method of „restoring order“ during street riots. He has extensive experience in that area.
The most significant round of street riots, following the flawed elections of 2009, was indeed restored to order. It took almost a year and resulted in over one hundred dead and many thousands detained, tortured or imprisoned. Today there are over 2000 in jail and the crackdown continues. Since most of the people arrested were activists tracking human rights violations, it is very difficult to keep track of all the prisoners and their stories.

    1. JP –  ‚UN will release ‚tough report‘ on Iran nuke program‘
Diplomats say IAEA will highlight concerns about possible military aspects to Tehran’s nuclear activities despite Iran’s „charm offensive.“
VIENNA – The UN’s nuclear watchdog will once again highlight concern about possible military aspects to Iran’s nuclear activities in its latest quarterly report, due to be submitted to member states in the next few days, diplomats said they believed .
„I expect it will be a bit tougher than the last one. Still a number of outstanding matters related to PMD (possible military dimensions) that Iran refuses to answer,“ a Western envoy told Reuters on Thursday.
