SPIEGEL - Olmert 'Certain' Tehran Seeking Nuclear Weapons Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, on an official visit to Berlin, dismissed suggestions that the threat from Iran's nuclear program was receding. He reiterated that no option must be ruled out in dealing with what he remains convinced is a bid to develop nuclear weapons.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Tuesday he remained convinced that Iran is "moving forward" with plans to build nuclear weapons. "We are certain that the Iranians are engaged in a serious ... clandestine operation to build up a non-conventional capacity," Olmert said at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel after a meeting between the two leaders."Tell me, why does Iran need enriched uranium at a time when they are supplied by (the) Russians (with) the nuclear fuel for the civilian projects?," he asked. "What else do they plan for which they need the most sophisticated ballistic missiles?"

POLITICALMAVENS- The facts, ma’am, just the facts Underneath the homes and ragged streets of the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan, lie the remnants of a glorious Jewish past: coins, seals, a water tunnel hewn by a Judean king 2,700 years ago, a road that led to a biblical Temple,†writes Associated Press writer Matti Friedman. While Israel says the archeological work helps it reconnect with its ancient heritage, some Palestinians contend the unearthing of these treasures is a political weapon to undermine their own links to Jerusalem, Friedman writes. Arab/Muslim interests have long tried to prevent excavation of this and other historic sites. Often, they complain the work endangers buildings or are an attempt by Israel to grab land. But the real motivation is simpler and more sinister than that.

Syrian Ambassador to Iran Ahmad Mousavi wrote that the assassination would severely shake the Zionist regime and would cost it dearly. Iranian Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee member Reza Talai Nik said that the assassination was a great loss to Hizbullah but that it would not detract from its strength or from its determination to continue the armed struggle. The Iranian website Aftab stated that it was impossible to ignore the intelligence and security collaborastion of some Arab countries in the assassination. He said that the collaboration had come about because Israel's loss in the 2006 war was also a loss for the Arab allies of the U.S. and Israel.
