Gerald Steinberg: „My response: We have heard a number of slogans from German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel showing that he does not understand the NGO issue for Israel, and the fact that over 120 mllion euros are given every year, irresponsibly and without transparency, for political warfare that are opposite of human rights and peace. It is clearly immoral when German taxpayer funds from ZFD are provided to false „civil society“ organizations like Al Haq and the PSCC that have links to terror organizations (also BfW which funds DCI-P), and, like the so-called Coalition of Women for Peace, that lead boycotts and lawfare campaigns. (see NGO Monitor research) Israel is being demonized uniquely by NGOs, and there is nothing similar here to Russia or China. By repeating the myths of the NGO industry, politicians are avoiding their responsibility to prevent abuse of these government funds.
And on democracy, the attempt in Germany to censor the documentary on antisemitism which shows the role of Brot für die Welt and Misereor in demonizing the Jewish state suggests that politicians in Berlin should not be throwing stones. Instead of attacking with false morality, Mr. Gabriel and others should enter a dialogue with Israel’s elected officials to develop guidelines for the NGO industry, and on accountability and transparency in European funding.““
