The cartoon begins with question „GOAL????“ and then fades to a cartoon President Ahmadinedjad playing soccer with a nuclear bomb on the same team as Adolf Hitler. They dribble past defenders including Andrea Merkel, Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac and Condoleeza Rice, finally scoring a goal, at which point the soccer ball explodes into a nuclear cloud after reaching the net. The cartoon ends with the text „GOAL!!!“ while Hitler and Ahmadinedjad celebrate.

Prior to the Mexico-Iran game, Sunday June 11th, Honestly Concerned along with some 1200 supporters of peace took to the streets of Nuremberg, a German city infamous for the Nazi-era rallies staged there by Hitler, carrying peace and Israeli flags to protest the Iranian regime. Speakers included Arno Hamburger, Head of the Jewish community Nuremberg, Ulrich Maly, the mayor of Nuremberg, Michel Friedman, a well-known Jewish TV personality in Germany and the German state of Bavaria’s interior minister, Gunther Beckstein, as well as Claudia Roth, Chairperson of the Green party (BUNDNIS 90/DIE GRUNEN).
Immediately preceding the Iran-Portugal game, Saturday, June 17th, a similarly peaceful protest with approximately 1000 participants was staged in downtown Frankfurt, in front of the Old Opera House. Speakers included Prof. Dr. h.c. Arno Lustiger (holocaust survivor), Prof. Dr. Micha Brumlik (holocaust researcher), Dr. Michel Friedman, Hannes Stein (from the newspaper DIE WELT) and the orientalist and publicist Hans-Peter Raddatz. Additionally, representatives from the three main political parties, CDU, SPD and Greens, as well as representatives from two Iranian dissident / exile groups, in addition to the head of the European Coalition for Israel (ECI), Tomas Sandell, addressed the crowd with messages of solidarity and support. The wide array of speakers, organizers and supporters repeatedly stressed that the protests in Nuremberg and Frankfurt were not directed against the Iranian football team, or against the Iranian people, but solely against Ahmadinedjad, his Mullah-regime and the threat posed by them against Israel and the entire Western world.
Protests are also planned for the Iran game, June 21st at 2pm at the Simsonplatz (in front of the Bundesverwaltungsgericht) in Leipzig.
Ahmadinejad has caused controversy and uproar in Germany because of his repeated denial of the Holocaust and his threats to „Wipe Israel off the map.“ By using over-the-top humor in this cartoon, Sacha Stawski, president of Honestly Concerned, hopes to bring attention to the dangers of Iran, not just to Jews or Israel but to the West and the world. „From Hitler to Slobodan Milosevic, history proves again and again what happens when the world fails to take the threats of an aggressive leader seriously. Now is the time to exert utmost international diplomatic pressure on Iran,“ says Stawski.
The German state of Bavaria’s interior minister, Gunther Beckstein, who spoke at the anti-Ahmadinejad demonstration, said: „We are not against the Iranian people, we are only against their president… If he didn’t hold a diplomatic passport, he would have been arrested upon his arrival in Germany. The Iranian people are our friends, but people like Ahmadinejad, who denies the Holocaust and calls and incites for murder, is a criminal.“
„Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, led by a man [Ahmadinejad] whose extremist religious ideology dictates the need and desire for a violent confrontation with the rest of the world in order to bring the messiah. We are facing a regime that values death over life. A leader with this mentality, coupled with missiles that can reach Europe, is far too dangerous to possess nuclear weapons,“ added Stawski.
Both Ahmadinejad and Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have spoken publicly about their willingness to share nuclear technology. During a meeting with visiting Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, Khamenei reiterated that, „The Islamic Republic is ready to transfer this experience and the technology and knowledge of its scientists.“
„This cartoon reminds viewers that while Hitler talked about exterminating the Jews, history has shown us, that what starts with attacking Jews, never ends there. Indeed, while Hitler killed 6 million Jews, the war he started cost 60 million lives. Ahmadinedjad speaks about targeting Jews and Israel, while his real goal is to target all infidels with violent conflict. He repeatedly says so himself,“ said Stawski. Just last July on Iranian TV, he proclaimed, „Have no doubt… Allah willing, Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world.“ Stawski added, „Our cartoon uses humor to raise awareness now, because we want strong international diplomatic and economic measures in order to prevent violence. At the end of the day, however, the world can not risk a nuclear Iran.“
