    In der arabischen Welt ist der militärische Erfolg der radikal-islamischen Hamas gegen die Fatah im Gazastreifen mit Entsetzen und Sorge aufgenommen worden. Der Iran sieht vor allem eine Gefahr: Der gemeinsame Kampf gegen Israel könnte geschwächt werden. 
    Der frühere iranische Präsident Akbar Haschemi Rafsandschani rief die verfeindeten palästinensischen Gruppen Hamas und Fatah zu einem Ende des Bruderkrieges und zur Konzentration auf dem Kampf gegen Israel auf.

      Tel Aviv – „Willkommen in der Hölle“, titelt die Zeitung „Maariv“ und meint: „Israel ist jetzt von einem zusätzlichen feindlichen und nervösen Staat umgeben.“ Auch die Konkurrenz malt schwarz. „Iran: Fünf Minuten von Aschkelon entfernt“, beschreibt das Massenblatt „Yedioth Achronot“ die neue Gefahr nach dem Putsch der radikal-islamischen Hamas im Gaza-Streifen. Von Aschkelon, einer Stadt mit 110.000 Einwohnern, sind es nur wenige Kilometer bis zum Gazastreifen. Die achtgrößte Stadt Israels, warnt „Yedioth Achronot“, könnte demnächst von Kurzstreckenraketen der Hamas angegriffen werden, welche von Teheran geliefert würden.

    The protesters said the UK envoy must be expelled

    Demonstrators have thrown paint and eggs at the UK embassy in Tehran to try to prevent an annual party in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.
    They said any Iranian guests who tried to attend the party were dirty traitors willing to sell out their country.
    The protesters also called for the expulsion of the ambassador and relations to be cut off.
    Police beat back demonstrators as they tried to block the mission’s side entrance to stop guests from entering.
    This is the first time protesters have tried to sabotage an embassy reception like this, and it stems from a desire to stop Iranians having contacts with foreigners.
