By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Monday, July 16, 2007 4:20 PM PT
War On Terror: Vice President Dick Cheney has the admirable gift of seeing things clearly. And these days, one of those things is Iran — a real threat that demands real action, and soon.
A British newspaper reports that Cheney apparently has prevailed in an internal White House battle over Iran.
According to the Guardian, Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns said at a recent White House meeting including both the Pentagon and State Department that there likely would be no diplomatic resolution of our ongoing disagreements with Iran by January 2009 — when the next president is sworn in.

Analysts say it appears Iran made the threat in an attempt to stave off western attacks on its nuclear sites.
It comes less than a week after the US pledged to reduce its naval presence in the Gulf, removing two carrier strike groups in the next few weeks and leaving only one in place by August.

After [the two prisoners are released, in Stage Eight, the operative] is surprised to discover the four Iranian diplomats who were kidnapped in Lebanon 25 years ago by the Israelis. Es ist schon bezeichnend, daß ein Spiel der Amerikaner gegen die Nazis quasi als Vorlage für ein Spiel gegen Israel (Juden) genommen wird.

July 17, 2007  — Amnesty International‘ s Drewery Dyke, the human-rights organization‘ s international researcher on Iran, spoke with RFE/RL’s Radio Farda correspondent Farin Assemi about the Iranian government’s scheduled broadcast of a program on July 18 that includes alleged confessions by detained Iranian-Americans.
Radio Farda: What’s Amnesty International‘ s opinion about broadcasting so-called „confessions“ of Iranian-American citizens Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh, which Iranian TV will broadcast tomorrow?
Drewery Dyke: The reported confessions of Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh, two dual nationals currently detained in Iran, flies in the face of Iran’s human-rights obligations regarding fair-trial procedures, an act which is clearly not permitted under the conventions that Iran is a party to and would undermine any trial that may arise in connection with their detention. The organization unconditionally condemns this particular act and indeed the apparent basis of their detention, as they appear to be prisoners of conscience held only for their beliefs.
