    3. RIA Novosti – Iran – Syrien: Mahmud Ahmadinedschad bei Bashar Assad in Damaskus zu Gast
TEHERAN / DAMASKUS, 19. Juli .

  2. HAARETZIsrael’s envoy to U.S.: Free world is under attack by Iran
    By Galit Greenfield
Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Sallai Meridor, said Wednesday that Israel and the free world are under attack by Iran, with a combination of fanaticism, terrorism and nuclear capability posing the most serious threat since the 1930s.
„We must prevent this nightmare,“ Meridor said at the „Night to Honor Israel“ event, part of the second annual Christians United for Israel summit in Washington, D.C. „The world must act and act now.“
Meridor said Israel would take any steps necessary to ensure that Iran does not develop a nuclear bomb. „All options are on the table, and no matter what, they will not be able to get a nuclear weapon,“ he said.
CUFI is a grassroots organization that serves as a national umbrella for all pro-Israel Christians groups in America. The organization was established in 2006 by Texas Pastor John Hagee, who decided the time had come to create a national movement focused based on the support of Israel. Directors from all 50 states were present at Wednesday’s event.

  10. SNAPSHOTS – Iran Launches English Satellite TV
    The Los Angeles Times reports:
In fits and starts, Iran this month entered the business of providing 24-hour English-language satellite television news programming, competing in a field that includes BBC World, CNN International, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Al Jazeera International and France 24.
The government aims to use Press TV to counter what it sees as a steady stream of Western propaganda against Iran as well as offer an alternative view of world news.
„We are the target of global media war, and there is hardly any media delivering on its commitment,“ Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said during a July 2 ceremony marking the station’s launch. „We cannot help but be attentive to the agony of our fellow human beings. Even if one day our country is not the target of a bullying power, we will not be indifferent to the world and to oppression.“ . . .
But the ads for upcoming documentaries show the channel’s slant. They include „Back From Iraq,“ a series about Western correspondents who covered the war and are critical of the conflict; „America Countdown,“ in which Americans speak out against the Bush administration; and „AMIA,“ a documentary that purports to prove that Israel had a hand in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that has been blamed on Iranian operatives.
Another documentary, „Land of Religions,“ is said to show how Iran’s Muslims, Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians live peacefully side by side.

  11. The GuardianUS academics admit aiding Iran democracy drive
    Robert Tait in Tehran
Two Americans detained by Iran for alleged spying last night admitted involvement in US-backed pro-democracy projects but appeared to stop short of making widely anticipated full confessions.
The acknowledgements by Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbaksh – both Iranian-born academics – came in recorded interviews broadcast on state television apparently to show that civil protest movements in Iran were being supported by the US.
Ms Esfandiari, 67, Middle East director of the Washington-based Woodrow Wilson Centre, and Mr Tajbaksh, 45, an associate of the George Soros Open Society Institute, face charges of „espionage“ and „endangering national security“ after being accused of trying to overthrow Iran’s Islamic system.
