    Just when you thought the Iranian leadership could stoop no further: MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) reported that a top advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed in an interview with Iranian website Baztab that Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s parents were both Jewish and that Hitler himself was one of the founders of the State of Israel.
    In the interview, translated by MEMRI, Mohammad-Ali Ramin, a chief aide to Ahmadinejad, told Baztab that Hitler’s paternal grandmother was a Jewish prostitute and his father even kept his Jewish name until finally changing it to Hitler when he was 40.
    Ramin also claimed that the reason Hitler developed such an aversion to Judaism was because his Jewish mother was a promiscuous woman. Hitler therefore, says Ramin, tried to escape his religion.
    Ramin cites a 1974 book by Hennecke Kardel titled ‚Adolf Hitler: Founder of Israel‘, which alleges that Hitler strived to create a Jewish state as a result of being influenced by his Jewish relatives and his cooperation with Britain – which also wanted to drive the Jews out of Europe.

    Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Monday downplayed recent speculation from Israeli security officials that Iran could have a nuclear capability by the end of 2009.
    Briefing the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Olmert responded to recent statements to that effect made to the committee by the head of military intelligence, Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin and the head of the IDF’s Military Intelligence‘ s research bureau, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Baidatz.
    „There are disagreements on the date Iran that Iran will become nuclear,“ Olmert told the MKs. „Iran could become nuclear by 2009 only if nothing gets in their way and under the optimal conditions from Iran’s standpoint. My opinion is that such conditions will not arise and that the real timetable will be different. However, we still have to act as if they are on the way to [nuclear capabilities] by 2009.“
    Olmert also rejected speculation that Russia was letting Iran become a nuclear power.

    WASHINGTON (JTA) — A renewed push from Jewish organizations for tougher sanctions against Iran is facing tough obstacles in Washington and capitals throughout the world.

    Der britische Regierungschef Gordon Brown hat dem Iran im Atomstreit mit schärferen Sanktionen gedroht. Sollte Teheran an seinem umstrittenen Atomprogramm festhalten, werde sich London sowohl bei der EU als auch bei den UN für einen weltweiten Investitionsstopp im iranischen Erdöl- und Erdgassektor einsetzen, sagte Brown in London. Davon würde er nur absehen, wenn der EU-Außenbeauftragte Javier Solana und die Internationale Atomenergiebehö rde diesen Monat positive Berichte über die Entwicklung im Iran vorlegten.
    „Der Iran sollte keinen Zweifel an der Ernsthaftigkeit unserer Ziele haben“, warnte Brown in seiner ersten Grundsatzrede zur Außenpolitik nach seinem Amtsantritt im Juni.

    „Instead of supporting the international effort, the agency is behaving obstructively and its attitude is giving countries an excuse to avoid joining the international effort“, This was the accusation which the Director General of the Foreign Ministry, Aharon Abramovitch leveled against the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
    According to Yediot Ahronot, senior diplomatic officials in Jerusalem have attacked the Agency director Dr Muhamad al-Baradei personally, saying that „he is going around like he has to save the world from war and sees it as his job to prevent the eruption with Iran“, They believe that for this reason „he has taken on the political task of making reality seem prettier than it is and rescuing the Iranians from tough sanctions“.

    Folgende Meldung aus dem Newsletter der israelischen Botschaft lässt hoffen:
     „Zur Wirkung der Sanktionen gegen den Iran
     Die wirtschaftlichen Sanktionen gegen den Iran zeigen Wirkung. Die im Folgenden aufgeführten Berichte deuten die Probleme an, denen sich der Iran in diesem Zusammenhang nun gegenübersieht.
    1. Der Generaldirektor der Nationalen Iranischen Ölgesellschaft (NIOC) hat mitgeteilt, er rechnete im Anschluss an die Öffnung von Angebotsumschlä gen (tender envelopes) für 17 Blöcke (von Gas- und Ölfeldern, die zum Angebot standen) damit, dass über drei von ihnen (!) eine Übereinkunft erzielt werden würde. Es sei daran erinnert, dass der Iran die Ausschreibungsphase nach einem großen Treffen in Wien im Februar 2007 um einen Monat verlängert hat, um Investoren für diese Projekte zu gewinnen.… 

  14. MEMRIBLOG – Iranian Daily To Turkey: Don’t Play Mediator Between Palestinians, Israel
    In an editorial, the conservative Iranian daily Jomhouri-ye Eslami has warned Turkey against taking Egypt’s place as mediator in the service of the Zionists.
     The paper said that the role the Turkish government was playing as mediator between Israel and the Palestinians was against the will of the Turkish people, and that such mediation was valueless anyway because Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is an American-Israeli hanger-on and has no status among the Palestinians.

  15. MEMRIBLOG – In Iran, Students Clash As Ahmadinejad Visits Campus
    Dozens were arrested November 12 as student movement activists clashed with student Bassij members at Tehran’s Information and Technology University during a campus visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
    The clashes came despite security efforts and early warnings to students prior to the visit.
    Student movement activists were protesting against the continued detention of three activists from their movement and against the lack of freedom of speech at the universities.
