         Ein Beamter des iranischen Instituts für Weltraumtechnologie hat am Montag stolz berichtet, eine eigene Raumsonde, die diesen Monat auf eine Umlaufbahn von 200 bis 250 Kilometer Höhe gebracht worden war, habe erste technische Daten an die Bodenstation übermittelt. Er stellte den Flugkörper namens Kavoshgar (Explorer) als Vorläufer für die Lancierung eines iranischen Satelliten dar, die für den nächsten Juni geplant sei. Die Kavoshgar-Mission diene der Überprüfung der Instrumente, und die Sonde werde später zur Erde zurückkehren.

    Oil Firm May Face U.S. Sanctions

     Berlin – A Nobel Prize-winning author and a Nazi-hunter were among the 3,000 signatories to a petition released last week, protesting a massive oil deal between an Austrian company and Iran.
    The $32 billion deal for oil rights, inked by the Vienna-based OMV oil company, appears to be the biggest ever with Iran. Since the deal was signed last year, it has attracted a growing tide of protest. German Chancellor Angela Merkel privately complained in September that the deal set a dangerous precedent. There are also signs that the American government, which has imposed economic sanctions against companies that deal with Iran, may also be looking at the deal.

    The online Iranian daily Rooz has criticized Iranian government spokesmen’s extensive references to the assassination of Imad Mughniya as well as Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki’s attendance at Mughniya’s funeral. Rooz said that this policy harms Iran’s interests by strengthening claims regarding Iran’s involvement in a domestic Lebanese dispute, and by playing into the hands of Iran’s enemies in the crisis over its nuclear program.

    Bolivian President Evo Morales has announced that Iran is planning to launch a TV station based in his country. According to AP, Morales said that the TV station would be for „all of Latin America.“ A presidential spokesman later confirmed that the channel, still in its planning stages, would be sponsored by Iran. The station is to be operated out of the stretch of Andean foothills known as the Chapare.

    The Iranian weekly Sobh-e Sadeq, the mouthpiece of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei circulated among the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), wrote that the death of senior Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniya was „a great loss“ that was the product of intelligence cooperation between the U.S., Israel, and the Western countries, on the one hand, and Arab countries that supported Israel in the 2006 Lebanon war, on the other.
    It added that the assassination would cause change in the region.
