  2. USA  today Iran wants Russian nuke hardware
Yahoo! Buzz Digg Newsvine Reddit FacebookWhat’s this?TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran demanded Sunday that Azerbaijan deliver a Russian shipment of nuclear equipment blocked at its border with Iran for the past three weeks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said in his weekly briefing that his country has asked the Azerbaijani ambassador in Iran to get his government „to deliver the shipment as soon as possible.“
The blocked nuclear equipment „is in the framework of Iran-Russia cooperation“ and there should be „no ban on it,“ he said about the shipment destined for a Russian-built nuclear reactor in the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr.
Azerbaijan has said it was seeking more information about the shipment due to fears that it might violate any of the three sets of U.N. Security Council sanctions imposed on Iran over its failure to halt uranium enrichment.
On Monday, Russian state-run company Atomstroiexport said that one or two trucks carrying the equipment for Iran were stopped two weeks ago at the town of Astara, on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.

  5. JP – Iran: US attack against us unlikely
A US attack on Iran is „unlikely“ because the American military is bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, said an Iranian official Sunday, following renewed US accusations that the Islamic republic is funneling weapons to Iraqi militias.
Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates accused Iran of stepping up its military support for Iraqi militias and said that all military options to deal with the situation were on the table.
„We see it unlikely that they plan to enter a new disaster which they themselves believe will have unpleasant consequences for the region and the world,“ said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini.
Hosseini also mocked the accusations of increased military support, saying „if someone adds up the US claims about hauling weapons to Iraq by Iran, it will be a huge and unbelievable amount.“

  13. The Washington Times- Iranian arms aid ‚visible‘ in Basra
    Saturday, 26 April 2008
    By Sara A. Carter
The top U.S. military officer yesterday said Iranian aid to Iraqi insurgents became „very, very visible“ during the recent unrest in Basra, in violation of earlier promises to reduce support for terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters at a Pentagon press briefing that evidence collected in Iraq shows Iran’s dismissive attitude toward U.S. requests to stop supplying weapons and training to terrorists and insurgents in Iraq.

  14. THE JERUSALEM POST Editor’s Notes: Stopping Iran  David Horovitz ,
The consensus among Israel’s political and military leaders as we near our 60th anniversary of independence is that modern Israel has never been as threatened as it is today. Given the wars of survival it had to fight in its first quarter century, that’s a profoundly troubling assessment.
Although Syria has all of Israel within missile range, Hizbullah has rearmed and the quantities of weaponry flowing into Gaza risk turning a major irritant into a grave concern, the key focus of potentially devastating confrontation is the Islamist regime in Iran – itself, of course, the key state player behind Hizbullah and the Gaza Islamic radicals.

  16. Jewish Chronicle  All roads lead to Iran
Everyone is waiting. In Israel, they are waiting for the 60th-anniversary celebrations to be over and for President Bush to have visited and returned home. Then, they say, the IDF will make its long-anticipated major incursion into Gaza. Then at last the problem of the ever-intensifying attacks by Hamas will be dealt with.
Across the world, everyone is waiting for the interminable US presidential election to be over. Then, many believe, the paralysis over Iran will end. Then, they think, the prospect of a military strike on Tehran will either swiftly be realised or permanently be laid to rest (depending on who actually wins).

  17. Naples  Guest Commentary: Bahais need relief from Iran persecution – Omid Rabbani
Emperor Cyrus II of Persia entered the city of Babylon in the year 539 B.C. He placed a cylinder under the walls of Babylon, following the customs of Babylonian tradition. In the 1970s, the Cyrus Cylinder was described as the world’s first charter of human rights. In fact, it was translated into all the official United Nations languages in 1971 and a replica of the cylinder is kept at the U.N. headquarters in New York City. Selected sections of the text have been interpreted as expressing Cyrus‘ respect for humanity, and as promoting a form of religious tolerance and freedom. If only the Iranian government could adopt a similar attitude towards its largest religious minority group, the Bahais.

Criticism in Iran is emerging over Syria’s willingness to renew negotiations with Israel. The Iranian daily Kayhan, which is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and the official Iranian news agency IRNA, stated that „the timing chosen by [Syrian President Bashar Al-] Assad to reveal the secret contacts with Israel arouses wondering“ and that he could be signaling to Iran on additional steps in the negotiations.
The daily Etemad-e Mali stated that relations with Iran were more important to Syria than the Golan Heights, and therefore it was not expected that Syria would swap these relations for the Golan.
According to the online daily Rooz, the surprise visit by a top Russian delegation to Iran was connected to what is happening in the Israeli-Syrian arena.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohamad Ali Hosseini and the Fars news agencies stressed that the talks between Israel and Syria are indirect, and noted that according to Syrian sources no negotiations in the future will be direct either.
