  1. YNET – Elie Wiesel: First Iranian nuke would hit Tel Aviv – Nobel Peace Prize Laureate says Ahmadinejad must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons
     Words of warning:     Should Iran acquire nuclear weapons, the first bomb will target Tel Aviv, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel warned at a renewable energy conference in Tel Aviv University Tuesday evening.
     Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is an enemy that must not be allowed to acquire nuclear capabilities, Wiesel said, adding that „one thing is painfully clear. If something will happen here in Israel,“ world Jewry in its entirety would be at risk.
    „What can be done against anti-Semitism? Against hate?“ Wiesel asked during his lecture. He noted that in the Internet era anyone can call for murder and there would be no one to stop them.
    ‚Use solar energy instead of Arab oil‘
     Meanwhile, President Shimon Peres, who also spoke at the event, said that It would be better for Israel to use solar energy rather than relying on Arab oil.
    Peres noted that solar energy „is not a member of the Arab league“ and added that rising oil prices serve to fund terror.
    Former US Vice President Al Gore also attended the conference and stressed that every citizen of the world is responsible for conserving „God’s creation for posterity.“

    19.05.08  – Berlin  – Der frühere Direktor der Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin Christoph Bertram hat die bisherige Politik des Westens gegenüber Iran als gescheitert bezeichnet. „An dieser Politik trotz fortdauernder Aussichtslosigkeit festzuhalten, verrät nicht Standhaftigkeit, sondern Kurzsichtigkeit“, schrieb Bertram in seinem im gedruckten Tagesspiegel vom 18. Mai erschienen Kommentar. Der Westen sollte endlich Entspannungspolitik betreiben; erfolglose Drohungen und Sanktionen beenden und direkt mit Teheran verhandeln, fordert der Iran-Kenner. In seinem Kommentar heißt es weiter: Will der Westen am „Weiter so“ festhalten, wird er am Ende nur erreichen, dass in einer Region von immenser Bedeutung für Sicherheit und Wohlstand des Westens, Iran, das gewichtigste Land der Region, zu einem dauerhaften Erzfeind wird. Deshalb gilt es, sich aus dieser gefährlichen Sackgasse herauszutasten, statt immer tiefer in sie hineinzumarschieren.

    In the editorial of the Iranian daily Kayhan, editor Hossein Shariatmadari, who is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said that even if a strategic agreement is signed by Iraq and the U.S., it will be invalid because Iraq is occupied by the U.S. and England.     
    He stated that such an agreement will have a significant impact on Iraq-Iran relations because Iraq will become the „main military base“ of the U.S., which is Iran’s main enemy.
