  1. THE JERUSALEM POST Falsely pragmatic on Iran
In a September 26 editorial, this is how Britain’s Guardian judged Israel’s efforts to convince the world that Iran’s nuclear program poses an existential threat to the Jewish state, and that military action might be the lesser of two evils: „Israel has lost the argument, and we should all breathe a sigh of relief [that] pragmatism… has prevailed.“
Beyond its left-liberal readership, the newspaper’s stance reflects a wide swath of Western thinking.
The problem is that this view confuses pragmatism with appeasement. It is a „pragmatism“ that does not demand the kind of biting sanctions that would force the mullahs to their knees – precisely in order to obviate the need for a military strike.
It’s a pragmatism that does not mean, for instance, cutting virtually all trade with the Islamic Republic; or ensuring that no Western airliner lands in Teheran. These „pragmatists“ support engaging Iran because there is profit to be made under the cover of a diplomatic minuet that pays lip-service to sanctions.

  2. AFP – Berlin strebt härtere Gangart gegenüber Teheran an

    1. wsj Berlin ♥ Iran – II  – Germany joins Iran’s ‚Down with Israel‘ rally
It’s been a while since German military officers attended rallies that feature threats to Jews. Last month Berlin’s defense attaché in Tehran resumed that tradition at Iran’s annual military parade.
The German envoy had the privilege of hearing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promise to „break the hands“ of invaders amid banners that read „Israel should be eradicated from the universe“ and shouts of „Down with Israel“ and „We will crush America under our feet.“
Iran’s parades are notorious for their „Death to Israel and America“ slogans, which is why the European Union shuns these hate-filled spectacles. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was „very annoyed“ about the attaché’s faux pas, according to a report in Der Spiegel, and summoned Herbert Honsowitz, the ambassador to the Islamic Republic, to Berlin. Mr. Honsowitz, who is known for pushing trade between the two nations, has since returned to his post and is expected to serve out his term.

30. MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Ahmadinejad: Iran Will Cut Off Hands Of Aggressors; Country On Verge Of Significant Domestic And Global Developments; Next U.S. President Will Have To Mend Fences With Iran

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday told a crowd in Gilan province that the Iranian nation would cut off the hands of aggressors.
He said that by the grace of Almighty God, and with the Iranian people’s resistance, under the wise leadership of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Iranian flag has been hoisted with pride worldwide, and the enemies feel ashamed.
He continued, „They have confessed to their defeat in the face of the Iranian nation as well as all other nations around the globe.“
Addressing the arrogant powers, he said, „You have committed so many crimes and now should stop it, it is time to return to God, justice, and a decent life which will be to your benefit… Even if you inject even $100 billion a week into your ailing economy, you will not survive. Your fate will not be much better than that of Pharaoh and Nimrod, unless you repent.“
He said that the Iranian nation was unified and would cut off the hands of any aggressor. „Our youths are capable enough to give you a crushing response,“ he stated.
Ahmadinejad’s speech was interrupted several times by the crowd chanting „Death to America.“
Ahmadinejad went on to call the violation of people’s rights the root cause of economic recession in the West, and to say that for the past 30 years the great Iranian nation had been exposed to economic and political pressures only because they wanted to be independent and believe in monotheism, he said.
„We have heard that since the beginning of Iraq’s occupation, over 100 million barrels of oil have been taken out from the country,“ he said.
The previous day, Ahmadinejad had told a joint meeting in Tehran of cabinet ministers and Friday prayer leaders that Iran was on the verge of significant domestic and global developments which requires full attention.
He said that the world had witnessed the collapse of Marxism and now is witnessing the annihilation of liberalism.
There is a broad tendency in the world towards religions, communication with God and humanity, he said.
He said that the mission of the Iranian nation differs from its mission 30 years ago, adding „Our mission is now global and we believe that only the scientists and ulema in Islamic Iran can play a pivotal role in guiding humanity in the right path. Therefore, we should be well-prepared and accountable in dealing with the needs of the world.“
Referring to the current situation in the U.S., he said, „It does not make any difference for Iran who the next president of the United States is… Whoever takes office has to limit U.S. involvement to domestic affairs and secondly, it is forced to mend fences with Iran.“
He went on to say, „Our mission is to replace the thoughts of global arrogance with divine thought. We are now witnessing a U-turn in the country, and the era of political factions has come to end and no longer leaves any impact on the Islamic Revolution.“
He concluded by saying that there is no doubt that there would be many obstacles to this end but that all would be removed.
