  1. HaaretzWiesel: Ahmadinejad UN speech shows world hasn’t learned from Holocaust –Shlomo Shamir
Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel has said that the recent speech in the United Nations by Iran’s president, who has called for Israel’s destruction, shows that the world has learned nothing from the Holocaust.
„Ten years ago, and less, the ruler of a country that announced its aspiration for Israel to be wiped off the map would not have dared appear and speak on the UN’s podium,“ Weisel said.
„The era known as ‚the period after Auschwitz‘ is over,“ he declared, adding: „If you ask me whether the world has learned something – my answer is no.“

Iran: Defeat in UN Security Council an ‚obvious injustice‘  AP and Allison Hoffman
Iran says its failure to win a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council was an „obvious injustice.“
Japan defeated Iran in a secret ballot Friday to secure the Asian seat on the Council. Japan won 158 votes while Iran got 32 votes.
The Security Council is UN’s powerhouse – it can impose sanctions and dispatch peacekeepers. Ten of it 15 seats are filled by regional groups for two-year stretches while five seats are held by veto-wielding permanent members.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hasan Qashqavi told reporters in Teheran on Monday that there was „no logical reason“ for Japan, which has served ten times on the Council, to „monopolize“ that seat.
Israeli officials, meanwhile, who have spent the past three weeks hammering the UN leadership for being too soft on Iran, saw the result as a repudiation of Iran’s legitimacy by the world body.

  3. RIA Novosti Russland sieht in Waffenhandel mit Iran keine Gefahr
TEHERAN; 20. Oktober .

  7. AchgutOne-Way Ticket to Turkey
The country’s largest religious minority, the Baha’is have faced discrimination ever since their religion was founded in what is now Iran in the mid-19th century. But Iran’s Islamic Revolution brought a turn for the worse. The new constitution gave no official recognition to the faith, seen as a false religion by the fledgling regime. The surge in persecution and harassment led many of Iran’s 300,000 Baha’is to consider their options, and for the past 30 years a great number of them have chosen to leave. This evening, approximately 200 passengers are making the trip to Turkey. Dozens of them are Baha’is on a one-way ticket.

  9. YAHOO  Iran hails world financial crisis as ‚end of capitalism‘
Iranian leaders say the world financial crisis indicates the end of capitalism, the failure of liberal democracy and divine punishment — marking the superiority of the Islamic republic’s political model. Skip related content
„The school of Marxism has collapsed and the sound of the West’s cracking liberal democracy is now being heard,“ supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday, recalling the fate of the Soviet Union.
Hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is backed by Khamenei, said on Tuesday that „it is the end of capitalism.“
Such convictions can be traced back to the ideals of the 1979 Islamic revolution, which Ahmadinejad has sought to revive since he rose to power in 2005.

  13. Forbes.com  Iran’s Economy Runs Out Of Steam – Michael Rubin
As markets floundered amid the credit crunch, Iran’s leadership celebrated the West’s economic crisis. On Oct. 11, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared, „The claim that the free market manages all things is a huge lie and benefits only thieves and criminals.“ Two days later, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei decreed that the West’s financial crisis was a sign of „the ineffectiveness of liberal democracy-based policies.“The Iranian leadership may rue their words. Ahmadinejad has run Iran’s economy into the ground. On Oct. 11, just a day after Ahmadinejad declared prices in decline, the Central Bank reported inflation above 30%. Such figures are still likely low. Both Shahab News and Aftab-e Yazd have noted the tendency of Iranian officials to pull numbers from thin air.

  14. YNET  Iran’s strategic gamble – Gabriel Calabrese
Iran increasingly seeking to extend its sphere of influence to Latin America
The world community is waiting in anticipation to see the next American president’s stance on confronting Iran’s nuclear threat. Yet it appears that Tehran has decided not to wait and has moved on its own to develop a means of attacking the US from its own backyard.
While the Latin American Left has consistently complained about North American interference in Venezuela’s domestic affairs, it has completely ignored the dangerous infiltration of Iran’s radical regime.
Over the past six years, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez has allowed Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to increasingly meddle in his country’s affairs. Putting Venezuela at the center of a new, troublesome initiative, shaping Latin America’s future is part of Iran’s strategic gamble against the West.

  16. MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG Senior Iranian Official Recommends that Iran Mark London as a Target – In Order to Deter Bush from Attacking Iran in Last Months of Presidency
In an October 18, 2008 article on the Iranian website Aftab, Wahid Karimi, director of the Europe and U.S. department in Iran’s Foreign Ministry, recommends that Iran mark London as a target, since it is the capital of the country that is the U.S.’s closest ally in Europe. This, says Karimi, would be with the aim of ensuring that the Bush administration does not attack Iran in its final weeks, after the U.S. presidential election next month and before Bush officially leaves office on January 20, 2009.

EMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Khamenei: Iranian Armed Forces ‘Ready To Sacrifice Their Lives For Islamic Values‘

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said yesterday that Iran’s armed forces are the stronghold of the Islamic Republic.
He made the remarks at a graduation ceremony at Imam Ali Academy.
He said that the nation is the supporter of the armed forces, and that he believes that the forces are inseparable part of it. He said the armed forces are major parts of the country’s national sovereignty, and added, „Thank God, Iran enjoys brave and committed armed forces leading to strong national sovereignty.“
He added that the armed forces were ready to sacrifice their lives for Islamic values.
Referring to the victory of the brave youth of the Lebanese Hizbollah in their resistance to the armed-to-the-teeth Israeli army, Khamenei said that this was the victory of spiritual power over the material might. He added that the Iranian nation had made the enemies of the Islamic Republic back away in the past three decades. „The enemies have repeatedly confessed that the Islamic Iran and its armed forces are in the most powerful status.“
Khamenei further recommended that army personnel upgrade their academic knowledge, innovation, and discipline, and to develop faith and piety.
He then decorated graduates of the ground forces academy with epaulets, and reviewed a parade by the cadets.
