Three weeks after former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami visited Germany, the Central Council of Jews in Germany has launched a bitter assault on Social Democratic Foreign Ministry State Secretary Gernot Erler and the Green Party’s mayor of Freiburg, Dieter Salomon, for welcoming him, accusing them of „pure appeasement“ politics toward the Iranian regime.
Khatami, who served as president of Iran from 1997 to 2005, is now jockeying to replace the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
On October 28, Khatami was invited by the University of Freiburg, in southern Germany, to deliver a lecture on „Dialogue between the Islamic and Western World.“

  19. realite-eu.org Experts: Iran Ready to Make Nuclear Bomb
On November 19, 2008, nuclear experts declared that Iran produced „enough nuclear material to make, with added purification, a single atom bomb.“ A report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concluded that Iran produced 630 kg of low-enriched uranium as early as November 2008. Experts maintain that the amount would be enough to build a nuclear weapon. [1] The IAEA further reported that „Iran is ramping up production of nuclear fuel while denying investigators access.“ [2]
    World Leaders Voice Grave Concern
The international community is acutely afraid of the accelerated Iranian nuclear weapons program and has pursued diplomatic means to stop it. [3] Iran’s enrichment activities are in violation of three UN Security Council Resolutions (1803, 1737, 1810). [4] [5] Iran has ignored these resolutions and called them illegal.
Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejd declared „he will share his country’s nuclear technology with other Islamic countries.“ [6] Not only is Iran willing to share its know-how with others, the Islamic Republic is openly and publicly offering aid to terrorist organizations such as Hamas [7] and Hezbollah.

  20. International Herald Tribune Iran said to have enough nuclear fuel for one weapon
By William J. Broad and David E. Sanger Thursday, November 20, 2008
Iran has now produced roughly enough nuclear material to make, with added purification, a single atom bomb, according to nuclear experts analyzing the latest report from global atomic inspectors.
The figures detailing Iran’s progress were contained in a routine update on Wednesday from the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has been conducting inspections of the country’s main nuclear plant at Natanz. The report concluded that as of early this month, Iran had made 630 kilograms, or about 1,390 pounds, of low-enriched uranium.

  21. ACHGUTVolker Perthes predigt Appeasement

  22. Reuters Government presses Iran to cooperate with U.N. watchdog
LONDON  – The government accused Iran on Thursday of failing to cooperate with a United Nations watchdog and said this increased its concerns over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell was responding to a report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog on Wednesday which said Tehran planned to start installing another 3,000 centrifuges early next year.
That is in addition to 3,800 centrifuges already enriching uranium and another 2,200 gradually being introduced.

  23. JTA U.S. may add Iran sanctions
WASHINGTON  – The United States will consider further steps to isolate Iran in the wake of revelations that it is close to manufacturing a nuclear weapon.
„We will continue to look at ourselves—what further steps might be taken in the financial sanctions area to try to prevent, cut off that pathway for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, and work with other countries to do that as well,“ Sean McCormack, the U.S. State Department spokesman, said Thursday.
The New York Times quoted nuclear experts as assessing that Iran had enriched almost enough uranium to make a bomb, based on the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog.
McCormack said that in the coming days the United States would also press the IAEA and the U.N. Security Council to take further action based on the IAEA report.

  24. THE JERUSALEM POST  Sallai Meridor calls to step up Iran sanctions following IAEA report  JPost.com Staff ,
Israeli Ambassador to the US Sallai Meridor called on the international community to step up sanctions against Iran following a report released by International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei on Wednesday.
„The findings in this IAEA report are extremely serious and alarming. It is clear that Iran continues to flagrantly violate the UN Security Council’s resolutions and is proceeding with its enrichment program,“ Meridor said in a statement late Wednesday night.
„The urgency of the situation is growing with each passing day as Iran moves closer towards achieving military nuclear capabilities. The world must dramatically step up sanctions against Iran before it is too late.“

  50. MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Rafsanjani In Iran Friday Sermon: Arak Nuclear Facilities ‚None Of [IAEA’s] Business‘; We Should Complain About IAEA’s and UNSC’s Approach

Tehran interim Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani stressed today in his sermon at Tehran University’s central campus that Iran’s nuclear program has never breached any international law and that permits to inspect Iranian nuclear facilities would be issued solely within the boundaries of the laws of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He also stressed that the IAEA had no jurisdiction to inspect the nuclear facilities at Arak.
Rafsanjani, who is chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council, told thousands of worshipers, „Whatever we have declared regarding the nuclear activities of Iran have been absolute facts, and the Agency, too, has approved of the fact that there has been no deviation of peaceful purposes in our program.“
Referring to claims by U.S. officials that Iranians refrain from declaring the entire truth, he said, „They present no documents for claiming so, not even to the Agency, on the pretext that the espionage source for their information might be thus revealed. Therefore, what they say is merely a claim that can be exclaimed by anyone.“
Referring to the report by IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, Rafsanjani said, „Unfortunately, ElBaradei’s reports, too, are, as always, resembling a double edged sword, as in his recent report he stated that what Iran has declared so far has been a reflection of the truth and we confirm there is no sign of breaching the laws in it, but regarding what Iran has not declared yet, they do not reply to our questions and we (the Agency) cannot judge either way…. ElBaradei has, for instance, said that Iran does not permit the Agency to inspect its Arak heavy water facilities.“
Rafsanjani then announced openly, „Inspecting the Arak nuclear facilities is basically not within the barriers of the IAEA laws, so that there would be any need for our issuance of a permit for inspections there. It is, in other words, none of the Agency’s business.“
He then stressed, „Save for obeying their illegal demands, Iran would do anything within its capabilities to safeguard the regional and international security… We are by no means favoring global insecurity, since we are Muslims, and the Muslims are typically the supporters of peace, moderate approach, and sound logic. If our argument would be based on strong logic, it would definitely be accepted by sound minds… We should actually be the complaining side, due to the approach adopted by the U.N. Security Council and the IAEA against Iran nowadays.“
He added, „We would not permit trampling upon the absolute rights of a brisk, revolutionary, Muslim nation so easily.“
In statements earlier this week, Rafsanjani said that the West should change its rhetoric regarding Iran, and that this would serve as a first step for creating understanding.
He told former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin that Iran would never overlook its legal nuclear rights, and that the West’s and the U.S.’s creation of obstacles would mar relations.
He also said that threats and sanctions would prevent development of fruitful talks, and that the West should adopt a policy based on international laws and sympathy.
