Sehr geehrte Frau Bundeskanzler,
mit völligem Unverständnis haben wir erfahren, daß in wenigen Tagen eine Deutsche Wirtschaftsdelegation unter Führung des Stellvertretenden Präsidenten der IHK München Herrn Kathrein nach Teheran reisen wird, um dort in der Aussenhandelskammer (AHK) Werbung für Geschäfte mit den Mullahs zu machen.
Nach uns vorliegenden vertraulichen Informationen, soll die Delegation bereits am 01.10.im Iran sein.
Wir halten es für unglaublich und zutiefst verwerflich, wenn die Deutsche Wirtschaft nach den skandalösen, antisemitischen Äußerungen des Iranischen Präsidenten vor der UNO und gleichzeitig mit den Atomgesprächen, eine Vertiefung der wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen zum Iran angestrebt wird.
Was für ein Signal wird den Mullahs und Ihren Firmen damit gegeben ? Business as usal ?
Wir möchten Sie bitten, Ihren Einfluß gegen diese verantwortungslose Reise geltend zu machen und diese zu verhindern.

Der iranische Präsident Mahmud Ahmadinedschad hat auch seinen Auftritt vor der UNO-Vollversammlung für scharfe Angriffe gegen Israel und die Verbreitung antisemitischer Verschwörungstheorien genutzt.
„Es ist nicht länger akzeptabel, dass eine kleine Minderheit Politik, Wirtschaft und Kultur in weiten Teilen der Welt durch komplizierte Netzwerke dominiert und eine neue Form der Sklaverei schafft“, sagte Ahmadinedschad am Mittwochabend im UNO-Plenum. Zahlreiche Delegationen, darunter die deutsche und die US-amerikanische, verließen daraufhin aus Protest den Saal – die österreichische war allerdings nicht dabei.
Österreich blieb im Saal
Neben den USA verließen auch einige europäische Länder den Saal. Nach Angaben aus Diplomatenkreisen waren darunter Deutschland, Großbritannien, Frankreich, Italien, Dänemark und Ungarn. Auch die Delegationen aus Argentinien, Costa Rica, Australien und Neuseeland zogen sich zurück. -
FPÖ – Lasar: Provinziale Peinlichkeit bei der UNO-Vollversammlung in New York durch Vertreter Österreichs! – Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer gibt Mahmud Ahmadinedschad die Ehre!
Wien, 24-09-2009 (fpd) – Das Verhalten der österreichischen Vertreter bei der UNO-Vollversammlung in New York sei an Provinzialität und Peinlichkeit nicht mehr zu überbieten gewesen. Während der iranische Präsident Mahmud Ahmadinedschad in seiner gestrigen Rede abermals Hetztiraden gegen Israel vom Stapel ließ und mit antisemitischen Ausfällen glänzte, gab die österreichische Delegation, allen voran Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer dem iranischen Präsidenten die Ehre, während es die Vertreter der westlichen Wertegemeinschaft vorzogen den Saal zu verlassen, so heute FPÖ-LAbg. David Lasar in einer Reaktion zum Eklat rund um Mahmud Ahmadinedschad und Heinz Fischer.
Gerade von Bundespräsidenten Fischer sei hier besondere Sensibilität gefordert, stehe doch das Staatsoberhaupt als oberster Repräsentant der Republik unter besonderer Beobachtung. Bemerkenswert sei dieser Fall jedoch auch unter dem Gesichtspunkt, da Heinz Fischer schon in der 1970 ´er Jahren als Klubsekretär von Bruno Kreisky und später auch als Klubobmann der SPÖ im Parlament eine höchst zweifelhafte Rolle in der Causa Simon Wiesenthal spielte. Sogar der Bund der sozialistischen Widerstandskämpfer forderte im Jahr 2004 „den lieben Freund Heinz Fischer“ auf dazu Stellung zu beziehen, so Lasar.
Vielleicht sind diese beiden Geschichten nur rein zufällig passiert – Faktum sei, daß der Bundespräsident seine Rolle als Staatsoberhaupt gestern Nacht in New York nicht optimal erfüllt und bei Teilen der jüdischen Gemeinde zumindest für Erstaunen gesorgt habe. Bemerkenswert sei in diesem Zusammenhang auch, daß der Präsident der IKG, der ja sonst mit Wohlmeinungen zur österreichischen Innenpolitik nicht unbedingt sparsam umgehe, bislang kein Wort zu dieser irritierenden Verhaltensweise gefunden habe. Eine Entschuldigung für diesen Fauxpas von Fischer sowie eine Erklärung von Ariel Muzicant als IKG Präsident wäre jetzt jedenfalls angebracht, so Lasar abschließend. (Schluß)

IKG – IKG über Österreichs Verhalten bei Ahmadinejads Rede vor der UNO empört – Die meisten europäischen Delegationen verließen den Saal – Österreich blieb. Das ist eine Schande!
Wien (OTS) – Die Israelitischen Kultusgemeinden Österreichs sind über das Verhalten der österreichischen UN-Vertretung bei der UN-Vollversammlung höchst befremdet.Viele europäische Delegationen verließen während der Rede Ahmadinejads den Sitzungssaal, die österreichische Delegation, verstärkt durch politische Gäste aus Wien, blieb im Saal.
Auch Deutschlands Delegation verließ den Sitzungssaal. Sollte dies ein Indiz dafür sein, dass die Aufarbeitung der NS-Vergangenheit in Deutschland fortgeschrittener ist als in Österreich? Oder sind es wirtschaftliche Überlegungen oder eine Kombination?
Es war ein unwürdiges Schauspiel.
Präsident Dr. Muzicant, der gestern bei einer Kundgebung des Bündnisses STOP THE BOMB gegen den UN-Auftritt von Ahmadinejad als Hauptredner auftrat, wirft der Österreichischen Regierung vor, rein aus geschäftlichen Interessen das antisemitische Regime in Teheran samt seinem Atomprogramm mit am Leben zu erhalten.
Er sagte u.a.: „Die österreichische Außenpolitik verzichtet offensichtlich selbst auf kleine symbolische Gesten des Protestes gegenüber dem iranischen Regime, um ja nicht die weiterhin hervorragenden Geschäftsbeziehungen österreichischer Firmen mit dem Iran zu gefährden. Es sind diese Geschäfte und es ist auch die österreichische Politik, die das antisemitische Regime in Teheran samt seinem Atomprogramm mit am Leben erhalten.“

Last night Mr. Ahmadinejad held his speech at the General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York City. Several free democracies (Argentina, Australia, Britain, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand and the United States) chose to walk out while he was talking in order to protest his obsessed conspiracy theories and his deep genocidal anti-Semitism. The representatives of the thought-to-be-free and progressive nation of Austria chose to stay and pay their tribute.
One of the key parts and most unmasking in his speech dealt with Jews, who he called „Zionists„:
„…The dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people are being played with by a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists. Although they are a miniscule minority, they have been dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the US in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner. It is deeply disastrous to witness that some presidential or premiere nominees in some big countries have to visit these people, take part in their gatherings, swear their allegiance and commitment to their interests in order to attain financial or media support.
This means that the great people of America and various nations of Europe need to obey the demands and wishes of a small number of acquisitive and invasive people. These nations are spending their dignity and resources on the crimes and occupations and the threats of the Zionist network against their will.„ (Ahmadinejad, Septemer 23, 2009)

WIEN. Heimische Schelte für das Verhalten der österreichischen Delegation während der Rede des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vor der UNO-Vollversammlung gab es am Donnerstag:
Der Präsident der israelitischen Kultusgemeinde, Ariel Muzicant, und der außenpolitische Sprecher der Grünen, Alexander Van der Bellen kritisierten, dass die Österreicher nicht, wie viele anderen Teilnehmer, den Saal verlassen hatten, nachdem Ahmadinejad einmal mehr in antisemitische Tiraden ausgebrochen war.
Muzicant konstatierte in einer Aussendung: „Die österreichische Außenpolitik verzichtet offensichtlich selbst auf kleine symbolische Gesten des Protestes gegenüber dem iranischen Regime, um ja nicht die weiterhin hervorragenden Geschäftsbeziehungen österreichischer Firmen mit dem Iran zu gefährden. Es sind diese Geschäfte und es ist auch die österreichische Politik, die das antisemitische Regime in Teheran samt seinem Atomprogramm mit am Leben erhalten.“
FPÖ und Grüne einig
Auch van der Bellen hätte sich „ein deutliches Zeichen des Protests erwartet. Österreich hätte nicht nur gegen die abscheulichen Ausritte Ahmadinejads gegen Israel protestieren müssen, die wohl die Aufmerksamkeit der Weltöffentlichkeit von der Lage im Iran ablenken sollen“, meinte er in einer Aussendung. „Österreich hätte auch gegen die Unterdrückung der Oppositionsbewegung im Iran Protest einlegen müssen und sich so mit der demokratischen Bewegung im Iran solidarisch zeigen sollen.“
Simone Dinah Hartmann, Sprecherin von „Stop the Bomb“ meinte: „Offensichtlich spielt es für die Außenpolitik Österreichs auch keine Rolle, dass die Leugnung des Holocausts hierzulande einen Straftatbestand darstellt.“ Der Rechtsextremismusexperte Heribert Schiedel von der Aktion gegen den Antisemitismus verurteilt das Verhalten der österreichischen Vertreter in der UNO-Vollversammlung ebenfalls scharf: „Dass man öffentlich den Judenmord leugnen und einen weiteren ankündigen kann und dennoch von weiten Teilen der Staatengemeinschaft als vollwertiges Mitglied betrachtet wird, hat Ahmadinejad und dem iranischen Regime ungeheuren Auftrieb gegeben. Mit ihrem gestrigen Verhalten in der UN haben die österreichischen Vertreter einem Holocaustleugner weitere Legitimität verschafft.“
Von „Provinzialität und Peinlichkeit“ hatte zuvor der Wiener FPÖ-Labg. Wien (OTS) – Während gestern etwa 300 Teilnehmer auf einer Kundgebung des Bündnisses STOP THE BOMB bei der Wiener Oper gegen den UN-Auftritt von Mahmoud Ahmadinejad protestierten, setzte Österreich in der Vollversammlung der Vereinten Nationen seine Politik der Beschwichtigung und Kooperation gegenüber dem iranischen Regime fort. Im Vorfeld hatte die Bezirksvorsteherin und ehemalige Leiterin der ÖVP-Delegation im Europäischen Parlament Ursula Stenzel in einer Grußbotschaft an die Kundgebung die Hoffnung geäußert, dass die österreichischen UN-Vertreter dem Beispiel zahlreicher anderer europäischer Staaten folgen würden und zumindest den Saal während Ahmadinejads Rede verlassen. In einer weiteren Grußbotschaft hatte auch der außenpolitische Sprecher der Grünen Alexander van der Bellen die Hoffnung formuliert, dass Österreich ein deutliches Zeichen des Protests während des Auftritts des iranischen Präsidenten setzen werde. Doch diese Hoffnungen wurden enttäuscht. IKG-Präsident Ariel Muzicant fasst heute als einer der Hauptredner der gestrigen Kundgebung enttäuscht zusammen: „Die österreichische Außenpolitik verzichtet offensichtlich selbst auf kleine symbolische Gesten des Protestes gegenüber dem iranischen Regime, um ja nicht die weiterhin hervorragenden Geschäftsbeziehungen österreichischer Firmen mit dem Iran zu gefährden. Es sind diese Geschäfte und es ist auch die österreichische Politik, die das antisemitische Regime in Teheran samt seinem Atomprogramm mit am Leben erhalten.“

Außenminister Frank-Walter Steinmeier (SPD) hat sich mit drastischen Worten von den Äußerungen des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmud Ahmadinedschad vor der UN-Vollversammlung distanziert. „Äußerungen dieser Art sind nicht nur nicht hinnehmbar, sondern dieser Präsident ist eine Schande für sein Land“, sagte Steinmeier in Berlin. Ahmadinedschad hatte mit scharfer Kritik an Israel für einen Eklat in der UN-Vollversammlung gesorgt. Er nannte das Vorgehen gegen die Palästinenser „Völkermord“ und warf den Juden vor, die internationale Politik zu dominieren. -

„Die jüngste Rede Ahmadinejads vor den Vereinten Nationen ist Teil der konsequenten Fortsetzung der antisemitischen Aggressionspolitik des iranischen Präsidenten und bestätigt nur die Notwendigkeit einer breiten internationalen Allianz gegen die iranische Diktatur, die nicht nur eine Bedrohung für die Weltgemeinschaft, sondern auch die eigene iranische Bevölkerung und deren Menschenrechte darstellt“, so die Präsidentin des Zentralrats, Dr. Charlotte Knobloch.
„Besondere Anerkennung verdient das sichtbare Zeichen der Ablehnung der Person und Politik Ahmadinejads durch den Boykott der Rede von vielen europäischen, darunter auch der deutschen, und südamerikanischen Regierungsdelegationen“, so die Präsidentin des Zentralrats zufrieden. Die positiven Signale des russischen Präsidenten Medwedew, dass auch Russland weitergehende Sanktionen nicht mehr gänzlich ausschließen will, lassen hoffen, dass nach der nächsten Gesprächsrunde mit der iranischen Delegation und dem Ergebnis derselben ggf. schärfere Sanktionen umgesetzt werden. „Auch die Blockade der Belieferung mit Raffinerieprodukten muss endlich in Erwägung gezogen werden, um den Forderungen gegen das iranische Regime Nachdruck zu verleihen“, so die Präsidentin des Zentralrats weiter, „denn sollte es nicht gelingen, die iranischen Nuklearwaffen mit Verhandlungen und Sanktionen zu verhindern, bleiben nur noch der Einsatz gezielter militärischer Mittel, und das will wirklich niemand.“

Mahmud Ahmadinedschad hat die Uno-Vollversammlung empört. Weil Irans Präsident in seiner Rede gegen Israel hetzte, verließen mehrere Delegationen den Saal. Im Streit um sein Atomprogramm ist Ahmadinedschad zusehends isoliert: Auch Russland erwägt nun Sanktionen gegen das Regime in Teheran.
New York – Der iranische Präsident Mahmud Ahmadinedschad hat mit seiner israelfeindlichen Rede für Aufregung in der Uno– Vollversammlung gesorgt. Er nannte das Vorgehen gegen die Palästinenser „Völkermord“ und warf den Israelis vor, die internationale Politik zu dominieren. Sie würden „eine neue Form der Sklaverei“ aufbauen wollen. Dabei würden sie versuchen, die USA und die Europäer für ihre Zwecke einzuspannen.
Ganz offensichtlich mit Blick auf die USA prangerte Ahmadinedschad zudem jene an, „die mehrere tausend Kilometer vom Nahen Osten entfernt sind“ und ihre Truppen in die Region sendeten, „um Krieg, Blutvergießen und Terror zu verbreiten“.
Israel hatte die Sitzung am Mittwochabend in New York boykottiert. Zahlreiche andere Teilnehmer, darunter die deutsche, britische, französische, italienische, dänische und ungarische Delegation, verließen den Saal aus Protest noch während der Rede des iranischen Präsidenten. Auch die Delegationen aus Argentinien, Costa Rica, Australien und Neuseeland zogen sich zurück.
Auf den Streit um das Atomprogramm seines Landes ging Ahmadinedschad dagegen mit keinem Wort ein. Er versicherte nur allgemein, Teheran wolle sich „konstruktiv“ daran beteiligen, internationale Probleme und Herausforderungen anzugehen. Die umstrittenen iranischen Präsidentschaftswahlen nannte er „glorreich und voll demokratisch“.
Deutsche Delegation nennt Ahmadinedschad-Rede „inakzeptabel antisemitisch“

Eine Sprecherin der deutschen Uno-Botschaft sagte, man habe die Israel-Passage als „inakzeptabel antisemitisch“ empfunden und habe daher mit vielen anderen europäischen Kollegen den Saal verlassen. „Es ist enttäuschend, dass Herr Ahmadinedschad einmal mehr hasserfüllte, beleidigende und antisemitische Rhetorik gewählt hat“, erklärte der Sprecher der US-Vertretung bei den Vereinten Nationen, Mark Kornblau.

Deutschland: Rede „inakzeptabel antisemitisch“
Eine Sprecherin der deutschen UN-Botschaft sagte, die deutsche Delegation habe diese Passage als „inakzeptabel antisemitisch“ empfunden und habe daher mit vielen anderen europäischen Kollegen den Saal verlassen. Im Gegensatz dazu sind die Vertreter Österreichs bei der UN-Vollversammlung in New York während der Rede des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad im Sitzungssaal geblieben. Das berichtete das Frühjournal des Ö1-Radios am Donnerstag. Die Israelitische Kultusgemeinde in Wien, NGOs, die Grünen und die FPÖ zeigten sich am Donnerstag verärgert über Verhalten der heimischen Delegation. -

Nachgerade erwartungsgemäß haben der iranische Präsident Mahmoud Ahmadinejad und der libysche Staatschef Muammar al-Gaddafi mit ihren Auftritten für einen doppelten Eklat in der UNO-Vollversammlung gesorgt. Aus Protest gegen neuerliche antisemitische Äußerungen Ahmadinejads – er nannte das Vorgehen Israels gegen die Palästinenser „Völkermord“ – verließen zahlreiche Delegationen den Plenarsaal. Gaddafi beschimpfte den UN-Sicherheitsrat als „Terror-Rat“, auch bei ihm leerten sich die Reihen der Delegierten.
Anfangs hatte Ahmadinejad sich offen für einen Dialog gezeigt und erklärt, Teheran sei bereit, jede Hand zu schütteln, die „uns ehrlich ausgestreckt wird“. Gaddafi bringt Zeitplan durcheinander
Lange vor Ahmadinejad, gleich nach der Rede von US-Präsident Barack Obama, war bereits Gaddafi mit seinem braunen Beduinenumhang und einer übergroßen Afrika-Brosche am Revers ans Rednerpult getreten. Als „König der Könige“ hatte ihn zuvor der Präsident der UNO-Vollversammlung, Ali Treki, angekündigt, der auch Libyer ist. Gaddafi sprach anstatt der für ein Staatsoberhaupt üblichen 15 Minuten mehr als eineinhalb Stunden. Damit wirbelte er nicht nur den Zeitplan für die nach ihm folgenden Redner durcheinander, sondern er schaffte es auch, den Plenarsaal sukzessive zu leeren – auch, weil er die Organe der Weltorganisation beschimpfte, einen Teil der UNO-Charta zerriss und sie dann achtlos wegwarf. -

Wer geglaubt hatte, Mummar al-Gaddafis 94 Minuten währender, blubbernder Irrsinn vom Vormittag werde bei der UN-Vollversammlung nicht so schnell zu übertreffen sein, fand sich von Mahmud Ahmadinedschad am Abend gegen 19.30 Uhr Ostküstenzeit eines Schlimmeren belehrt. Während der libysche Diktator seine Tiraden gegen sämtliche Weltverschwörer mit lustigen Einlagen spickte – etwa, als er Barack Obama „meinen Sohn“ nannte oder als er zu wissen begehrte, warum „Lee Harvey“ (Oswald) John F. Kennedy erschoss –, hatte Mahmud Ahmadinedschad den Unterhaltungswert eines Henkers. -

Under increasing attack over his country’s suspected nuclear weapons program, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that Teheran was ready to meet conciliation with conciliation.
Ahmadinejad spoke to a half-empty chamber as he sought to cast himself as a beleaguered champion of the developing world, that he portrayed as under attack from rapacious capitalism.
At the same time, the Iranian leader issued stinging attacks on Israel, the United States and the West, without calling them by name. Tougher sanctions against Iran are being considered if talks between the powers and Iran on the issue, set for October 1, fail to yield results.

A spokeswoman for the UK delegation said the walk-out was prompted by „anti-Semitic“ rhetoric.
Mr Ahmadinejad condemned Israel for what he said was a „barbaric“ attack on the Gaza Strip last winter.
He also accused the West of hypocrisy, saying it preached democracy, but violated its fundamental principles.
In his speech, the Iranian President accused Israel of „inhuman policies“ in the Palestinian territories.
Mark Kornblau, spokesman for the US Mission to the UN, said: „It is disappointing that Mr Ahmadinejad has once again chosen to espouse hateful, offensive and anti-Semitic rhetoric.“
Mr Ahmadinejad also predicted that „expansionist capitalism“ will meet the same fate as Marxism, accusing unnamed powers of „using the ugliest methods of intimidation and deceit under the mantle of freedom“.

Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon will be at the world body to attend the opening of the UN General Assembly’s annual debate, but officials signal he and other members of the Canadian delegation will vacate the Canadian seats when the Islamic republic’s president approaches the podium.
Walking out of the chamber is seen as a strong diplomatic show of disgust at the UN — and since the chamber is generally packed on the first day of the annual summit, Canada’s empty seats will not go unnoticed.
One of the first speakers of the day will be U.S. President Barack Obama, who is making his debut address before the assembly.
„President Ahmadinejad’s repeated denial of the Holocaust and his anti-Israel comments run counter to the values of the UN General Assembly, and they’re shameful,“ said one Canadian official.
„He uses his public appearances to provoke the international community, and that is why Canada’s seats will be empty.“
The gesture is a step stronger than one announced Tuesday by the German Foreign Ministry, which asked other European Union member states to walk out of the General Assembly chamber if Ahmadinejad again denies the Holocaust, or makes anti-Semitic statements.
The Canadian initiative will be welcomed by Israel, which Tuesday urged all delegates in the 192-member chamber to stay away when Ahmadinejad speaks.
„A few days ago, he gave a new speech of hate,“ Gabriela Shalev, Israeli ambassador to the UN, told Israeli army radio.
„The simple fact of leaving the room during his speech, or not to be present during it, is a symbolic act.“

Dennoch seien die meisten Staaten nicht im fünfzehnköpfigen Sicherheitsrat vertreten, die fünf Vetomächte hätten das alleinige Sagen. „Das akzeptieren wir nicht, und das erkennen wir nicht an“, sagte er sichtlich erregt.
Gaddafi bezeichnete den Sicherheitsrat als Terror-Rat, hielt ein Exemplar der Charta hoch und zerriss einige Seiten.-

Der libysche Revolutionsführer Muammar al-Gaddafi oder der Iraner Mahmud Ahmadinedschad sorgen mit ihren Reden immer wieder für Aufsehen. So wurden ihre Ansprachen vor der Vollversammlung der Vereinten Nationen in New York denn auch mit Spannung erwartet. Für Gaddafi war es zudem der erste Auftritt bei der Generaldebatte, die mehrfach auch zur Bühne für Propagandareden und spektakuläre Aktionen geworden ist.
Gaddafi mit Hotelsuite gestraft
Anlass für Spötteleien ist immer wieder der unbedingte Wunsch Gaddafis, im Beduinenzelt statt in der Hotelsuite zu nächtigen. In New York allerdings findet er wohl keinen geeigneten Campingplatz. Die Kleinstadt Bedford unweit von New York City stoppte den Aufbau des Zeltes, das Gaddafi zur Bewirtung von Gästen am Rand der UN-Generalversammlung in Manhattan nutzen wollte. CNN berichtete, dass sich der umstrittene Libyer ausgerechnet ein Anwesen des New Yorker Baulöwen Donald Trump für sich und seine Gäste ausgesucht hatte.
Der Anwalt der Stadt, Joel Sachs, führte mehrere Verstöße gegen die Grundstücksnutzung zur Begründung für das Einschreiten der Behörden auf. Die Trump-Organisation sagte dem Sender auf Anfrage, dass das Anwesen in der Tat kurzfristig an Geschäftspartner aus dem Nahen Osten vermietet worden war. „Diese könnten eine Verbindung zu Gaddafi haben oder auch nicht“, hieß es von Seiten des Unternehmens.
Ursprünglich wollte der libysche Führer sein Zelt in dem New Yorker Vorort Tenafly (New Jersey) auf dem Anwesen des libyschen UN-Botschafters aufschlagen. Doch die benachbarte jüdische Religionsschule schlug Alarm und veranlasste die Stadtverwaltung einzuschreiten. Danach habe Gaddafi klein beigegeben und ganz gegen seine Gewohnheit beschlossen, in einer Hotelsuite zu ziehen.
Chruschtschow und die Schuhe
Legendär ist die Schuh-Einlage des damaligen Kremlchefs Nikita Chruschtschow. Am 12. Oktober 1960 hatte Chruschtschow verlangt, das Plenum solle über die Unabhängigkeit von Kolonialländern diskutieren. Als daraufhin die Frage nach der Unabhängigkeit der osteuropäischen Völker gestellt wurde, begann Chruschtschow zunächst, lautstark mit der Faust auf sein Pult zu schlagen. Schließlich ließ er seiner Wut freien Lauf und trommelte heftig mit einem Schuh auf die Tischplatte.
Der Präsident der Vollversammlung zerbrach in der stürmischen Sitzung seinen Hammer, als er damit den erbosten Chruschtschow zur Ordnung rufen wollte. Ungeklärt blieb, ob dieser damals einen seiner eigenen Schuhe benutzte, ob er das lederne Corpus Delicti von dem neben ihm sitzenden Außenminister Andrej Gromyko lieh oder gar vorsorglich einen Reserveschuh mitgebracht hatte.
Bush riecht nach Schwefel
Nur drei Jahre ist es her, dass der für seine Attacken gegen die USA bekannte venezolanische Präsident Hugo Chávez den damaligen US- Präsidenten George W. Bush vor der UN-Vollversammlung als „Teufel“ beschimpfte. „Gestern war der Teufel hier, genau hier“ sagte Chávez am 20. September 2006 und zeigte auf ein Pult, von dem Bush 24 Stunden zuvor seine Rede gehalten hatte. „Und es riecht hier noch immer nach Schwefel“, fügte er hinzu und bekreuzigte sich dabei. Die USA seien „die größte Gefahr für unseren Planeten“ und bedrohten „das Überleben der Spezies Mensch“, ergänzte Chávez in seiner Rede.
Arafat als Freischärler
Mit umgeschnalltem Pistolenhalfter trat einst Jassir Arafat vor die Vollversammlung, um erstmals vor diesem Forum sein politisches Anliegen, die Gründung eines palästinensischen Staates offiziell zu präsentieren. Die Rede des Palästinenserführers am 13. November 1974 war jedoch trotz drohender Untertöne ein wenig konzilianter, als der martialische Auftritt mit Kufija-Kopftuch und Freischärlerjacke zunächst erwarten ließ. Der PLO-Chef bezeichnete sich als einen Mann, der „einen Ölzweig und die Waffe des Freiheitskämpfers“ in der Hand halte. Die Vorstellung habe so auf ihn gewirkt, als ob der Gangsterboss Al Capone vor dem Obersten Gericht der USA über Moral und Anstand dozieren würde, urteilte ein israelischer Diplomat damals über den Arafat-Auftritt.
„Schlächter von Kampala“ will Israel „auslöschen“
Zu einem der schwärzesten Momente der UN-Vollversammlung wurde der Auftritt des als „Schlächter von Kampala“ bekannten Diktators Idi Amin im Jahr darauf. Der damalige Präsident Ugandas forderte am 1. Oktober 1975 in seiner Ansprache nicht nur den Ausschluss Israels aus den Vereinten Nationen, sondern forderte die „Auslöschung“ Israels als Staat. Der Despot verlangte die Wiederherstellung der „territorialen Integrität Palästinas“.
In der ordensgeschmückten Uniform eines Feldmarschalls sprach Idi Amin, während dessen Gewaltherrschaft von 1971 bis 1979 hunderttausende Menschen ermordet wurden, einige einleitende Worte in seiner Muttersprache. Den Rest der Rede ließ er auf Englisch von seinem UN-Botschafter verlesen. Anschließend richtete Amin, der damalige Präsident der Organisation für Afrikanische Einheit, noch einige Worte an die Delegierten. Viele verabschiedeten den Afrikaner mit tosendem Beifall. Westliche UN-Botschafter reagierten empört.

In the last three years, I have talked to you about great hopes in the bright future of human society, and some solutions for achieving sustainable peace and expanding love, compassion, and cooperation. I have also talked about unjust systems governing the world; pressures exerted by some powers seeking to trample the rights of other nations, oppression imposed on the majority of the global community, especially on the people of Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Africa, Latin America, and Asia; about challenges we are faced with, such as efforts to shatter the sanctity of families, destroy cultures, humiliate lofty values, neglect commitments, expand the shadow of threats, as well as about the arms race and the unfairness and inability of the systems governing world affairs in reforming the status quo.
With the occurrence of various new developments, the debility of existing mechanisms has been revealed even more. However, at the same time, an encouraging trend, which has originated in the thoughts and beliefs of peoples, has blossomed and become stronger. Posed against the despairs caused by the new developments, this trend has ignited the ray of hope for a brilliant, desirable and beautiful future in the hearts of men.

It seems that the roots of problems lie in the way one views and perceives the world and humankind, as well as in the important issues of freedom, obeisance to God, and justice. The world, humankind, freedom and obeisance to God, and justice, have been of utmost importance to humans throughout history.
1. The World:
God Almighty purposefully created the world. This world is the bedrock for the evolution and growth of a creature called man, and the laws governing the world and all other creatures are at the service of man’s quest for loftiness. The world should provide the needed opportunities for the fulfillment of the purpose behind man’s creation. No phenomenon, creature, or indeed anything has been created in vain. Together they all pave the ground for the flourishing of mankind in a complex and purposeful system, and they are, each, one of the signs of God Almighty. All are His creations and He is the sole creator and ruler of the world. All existence including power, knowledge and wealth come from Him.
2. Humankind:
God created the world for humans and humans for Himself. He created humans from mud and in the soil, but He did not want them to remain in the soil and with animal instincts. He kindled the light of guidance in their souls and asked them to rise from the soil to the heavens and to Him with the help of wisdom, prophets and perfect men.
The world will ultimately disappear, but God has created man for eternity and has made them a manifestation of Himself. Creativity, mercifulness, kindness, knowledge, wisdom, zeal, concealment of sins, splendor, justice, bounteousness, generosity, greatness, love, glory, dignity, forgiveness, insight, kingship and all other goodness and beauty are attributes of God.
God has not created humans for aggression, bloodshed, rancor, selfishness and destruction. He made humans His vicegerents on earth and has asked them to, on the one hand, make earth prosper by using their God-given potentials and to prepare the ground for the growth of divine attributes in all humans, and to provide all with a life full of beauty, amity, freedom, justice and goodness; and on the other hand in pursuance of this path, to prepare for a prosperous, everlasting life endowed by God’s mercy.
God has obligated humans to live divinely and socially, for it is only through social life and interactions with others that divine attributes may emerge.
3. Obeisance to God:
God Almighty has tied their perfection and true freedom of humans to their devotion and obedience to Himself. True freedom and obedience to God are in balance and in fact are two sides of the same coin.
Obeisance to God means confessing to monotheism and obeying His commands, and to be free from ungodly worship.
Obeisance to God means the acceptance of the absolute truth, the absolute light, and the absolute beauty.
Obeisance to God means abandoning selfishness and animal instincts, power-seeking and aggression, surrendering to righteousness, justice, love, and perfection.
And in this way, humans can achieve their true freedom and flourish, they can grow and manifest divine attributes, have affection for others, stand up for justice, and fear no power or threat, and defend the oppressed. In such an environment, one’s freedom will not impinge on any others‘. Contention and conflict are characteristic of materialistic freedom and animal instinct. The essence of all divine religions and obeisance to God and true freedom is disassociating from oppressors and instead obeying and worshiping God, for:
– God is omniscient and knows all that is revealed or kept secret, and He is kind and merciful.
– All creatures are humble before Him and resign to His will.
– God is alive and is the Creator of the universe and all life.
– God loves His creatures and desires nothing but goodness, blessings, and perfection for them, and is against bullying, injustice, selfishness and domination.
4. Justice:
Justice is the foundation of the creation of humankind and the whole universe. Justice is tantamount to placing every phenomenon in its own place, and providing humans with opportunities to actualize all their divine capabilities. Without it, the order of the universe will collapse and the opportunity for perfection will fade away. Without justice, it would be impossible for human society to taste real peace, beauty, joy and happiness. Justice is the main pillar of social life and without it, social life cannot continue or grow.
Humans need to know God in order to realize a prosperous society in this world as well as to strive for a beautiful eternal life, and to this end they first have to know themselves and strive for loftiness in themselves and their societies. However:
– as long as the world is construed as closed, limited and aimless,
– as long as eternal life is considered imaginary and illusory and afterlife and the Judgment Day as well as reward and punishment are thought of as fictional and unreal,
– as long as morals and commitment to them are called backwardness, and immorality, lies, deceit and selfishness are considered desirable, and humans are limited to a materialistic life in this world,
– as long as attempts are made to replace obedience to God and following His prophets and true freedom with servitude to materialistic tendencies and animal instincts and servitude to oppressing human beings, and contention reaches its pinnacle,
– as long as the aggressors, because of their financial, political and propaganda powers, not only escape punishment but even claim righteousness,
– and as long wars are started and nations are enslaved in order to win votes in elections,
not only will the problems of the global community remain unsolved, but they will be increasingly exacerbated.

Let’s look at the situation of the world today:
Iraq was attacked under the false pretext of uncovering weapons of mass destruction and overthrowing a dictator. The dictator is toppled and WMDs are not uncovered. A democratic government is established by the votes of the people but, after 6 years, the occupiers are still there. They insist on imposing colonial agreements on the people of Iraq by keeping them under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter. Millions of people have been killed or displaced, and the occupiers, without a sense of shame, are still seeking to solidify their position in the political geography of the region and to dominate oil resources.
They have no respect for the people of Iraq and disregard any dignity, rights or status for them. The UN is not capable enough to solve the problems and to remove aggression, occupation and imposition.
In Palestine, 60 years of carnage and invasion is still ongoing at the hands of some criminal and occupying Zionists. They have forged a regime through collecting people from various parts of the world and bringing them to other people’s land by displacing, detaining, and killing the true owners of that land. With advance notice, they invade, assassinate, and maintain food and medicine blockades, while some hegemonic and bullying powers support them. The Security Council cannot do anything and sometimes, under pressure from a few bullying powers, even paves the way for supporting these Zionist murderers. It is natural that some UN resolutions that have addressed the plight of the Palestinian people have been relegated to the archives unnoticed.
In Afghanistan, production of narcotics has multiplied since the presence of NATO forces. Domestic conflicts continue. Terrorism is spreading. And innocent people are bombarded on a daily basis in streets, markets, schools and wedding ceremonies. The people of Afghanistan are the victims of the willingness of NATO member states to dominate the regions surrounding India, China, and South Asia. The Security Council cannot do anything about it because some of these NATO members also happen to be the major decision makers in the Security Council.
In Africa, efforts are made to reestablish the relationships of the colonial era. By starting civil wars in large countries including Sudan, disintegration of those countries is planned in order to serve the interests of some corrupt powers. In case there is a national resistance, the leaders of the resistance are put under pressure by legal mechanisms created by the very same powers.
In Latin America, people find their security, national interests and cultures to be seriously endangered by the menacing shadow of alien domineering governments, and even by the embassies of some empires.
The lives, properties and rights of the people of Georgia and Ossetia and Abkhazia are victims of the tendencies and provocations of NATO and certain western powers, and the underhanded actions of the Zionists.
The never-ending arms race and the proliferation and stockpiling of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction and the threats to use them, and the establishment of missile defense systems, have made the situation unstable.
With regard to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, despite the inalienable right of all nations including the Iranian nation, in producing nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes, and despite such facts as the transparency of all Iranian activities and our country’s full cooperation with the inspectors of the IAEA and the Agency’s repeated confirmation of the fact that Iran’s activities are peaceful, a few bullying powers have sought to put hurdles in the way of the peaceful nuclear activities of the Iranian nation by exerting political and economic pressures against Iran, and also through threatening and pressuring the IAEA. These are the same powers that produce new generations of lethal nuclear arms and possess stockpiles of nuclear weapons that no international organization is monitoring; and, the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were perpetrated by one of them.
Indeed, they are not against weapons, but they oppose other nations‘ progress, and tend to monopolize technologies and to use those monopolies in order to impose their will on other nations. But it is very natural that the great Iranian people, with their trust in God, and with determination and steadfastness and with the support of its friends, will resist the bullying and has defended and will continue to defend its rights. The Iranian nation is for dialogue. But it has not accepted and will not accept illegal demands. The time has come for the IAEA to present a clear report to the international community on its monitoring of the disarmament of these nuclear powers and their nuclear activities, and for a disarmament committee to be established by independent states to monitor the disarmament of these nuclear powers.
The theories of development that are in line with the hegemonic system and not in accordance with the true needs of humankind and human societies, have turned into repetitive and bland tools for assimilation of economies, expanding hegemonic domination, destroying the environment and destroying the social solidarity of nations. There is no end in sight to this. Poverty, hunger and deprivation are hurting more than one billion of the world’s population and have dashed their hopes for a decent life.
The dignity, integrity and rights of the American and European people are being played with by a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists. Although they are a miniscule minority, they have been dominating an important portion of the financial and monetary centers as well as the political decision-making centers of some European countries and the US in a deceitful, complex and furtive manner. It is deeply disastrous to witness that some presidential or premiere nominees in some big countries have to visit these people, take part in their gatherings, swear their allegiance and commitment to their interests in order to attain financial or media support.
This means that the great people of America and various nations of Europe need to obey the demands and wishes of a small number of acquisitive and invasive people. These nations are spending their dignity and resources on the crimes and occupations and the threats of the Zionist network against their will.

All these are due to the manner in which the immoral and the powerful view the world, humankind, freedom, obeisance to God, and justice.
The thoughts and deeds of those who think they are superior to others and consider others as second-class and inferior; who intend to remain out of the divine circle, to be the absolute slaves of their materialistic and selfish desires, who intend to expand their aggressive and domineering natures, constitute the roots of today’s problems in human societies. They are the great hindrances to the actualization of material and spiritual prosperity and to security, peace and brotherhood among nations. I explicitly state that the Iranian people and the overwhelming majority of peoples and governments are against those deeds and perspectives of the world- domineering powers. Establishment of justice requires people who have achieved moderation and justice inside themselves, and have restrained their domineering attitudes and actualized their attributes of self-sacrifice and are at the service of humanity. The complete and full-scale manifestation of such characteristics can happen only under the rule of the righteous and perfect human being who is obedient to God and who is promised by the divine Prophets.

Of course with the grace of God Almighty a hopeful trend is flourishing in the heart and soul of human societies. The universal eagerness for justice, purity, and love for others, monotheism and the quest for perfection is clearly and increasingly on the rise. A universal resistance against the acquisitiveness, aggression and selfishness of the bullying powers is being formed. Today, the bullying powers‘ thoughts, practices and strategies are rejected by nations and governments, and all are seeking to establish new human relations based on justice with a view to attain prosperity, perfection, security, and sustainable welfare. This is the very auspicious phenomenon that all the traditions of creation and the ruling laws of the universe emphasize and support.
Today, the Zionist regime is on a definite slope to collapse, and there is no way for it to get out of the cesspool created by itself and its supporters. The Islamic Republic of Iran, while fully respecting the resistance of the oppressed people of Palestine and expressing its all-out support for it, submits its humane solution based on a free referendum in Palestine for determining and establishing the type of state in the entire Palestinian lands to the distinguished Secretary General of the UN.
American empire in the world is reaching the end of its road, and its next rulers must limit their interference to their own borders. Today, the thought of hegemony quickly becomes a demerit.

HANDELSBLATT – Wegen Iran – Bei Uno-Vollversammlung droht Eklat
Beim Auftritt des iranischen Präsidenten Mahmud Ahmadinedschad vor der Uno-Vollversammlung in New York droht ein Eklat. Sollte Ahmadinedschad in seiner Rede erneut den Holocaust leugnen oder sich antisemitisch äußern, werden nach Informationen des Handelsblatts die Diplomaten aus Deutschland und wahrscheinlich auch die anderer EU-Staaten den Saal verlassen.
BERLIN/DÜSSELDORF. Bundesaußenminister Frank-Walter Steinmeier (SPD) habe den deutschen Vertretern in New York entsprechende Anweisungen erteilt, hieß es im Auswärtigen Amt auf Nachfrage. Derzeit liefen Gespräche mit den Partnern in der EU, um dies zu einer einheitlichen Linie derMitgliedsländer zu machen.
In New York beginnt heute die Generaldebatte der Vereinten Nationen. Gleich mehrere Politiker geben bei der Generaldebatte ihr Debüt: Neben Barack Obama sprechen erstmals auch der russische Präsident Dmitrij Medwedjew und der chinesische Staatschef Hu Jintao. Während Obama am frühen Nachmittag deutscher Zeit reden sollte, wird die Rede von Ahmadinedschad für den späten Abend erwartet. Der iranische Präsident hatte erst kürzlich erneut durch anti-israelische Äußerungen international für Empörung gesorgt.
Der Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland hält das Vorhaben der Bundesregierung für „absolut lobenswert“, aber bei weitem für nicht ausreichend. „Es ist ein diplomatisches Signal, aber für sich alleine denn doch viel zu wenig wirkungsvoll“, sagte der Vizepräsident des Zentralrats, Dieter Graumann, am Mittwoch im Gespräch mit Handelsblatt.com. „Wer das iranische Terrorregime wirklich beeindrucken will, darf nicht nur gelegentlich bei den ekelhaftesten Hasstiraden den Saal verlassen, sondern wird um weitere Maßnahmen nicht herumkommen“, betonte er. Graumann hält daher „harte, wirksame Sanktionen gegen das Regime, das die eigenen Menschen zu Geiseln macht und die gesamte Welt frech und verlogen bedroht“ für unumgänglich. „Politische Zeichen sind wichtig. Konkrete Sanktionen aber schon lange überfällig.“ -
THESTAR – Germany wants U.N. walkout if Ahmadinejad denies Holocaust
BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany will walk out of the U.N. General Assembly if Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust in a speech he will give on Wednesday, and it wants other European Union countries to do the same, the foreign ministry said.
„We will leave the hall if President Ahmadinejad denies the Holocaust or makes anti-Semitic statements … we are making efforts towards a unified European position,“ a spokesman said on Tuesday.
Ahmadinejad has, as recently as last week, called the Holocaust a lie, repeating his position just as world powers try to decide how to deal with Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Denying the Holocaust, carried out by the Nazis in World War Two, is a crime in Germany. Last week German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned Ahmadinejad’s latest denial and called him a disgrace to his country.

Wien (OTS) – „Der iranische Präsident Ahmadinejad ist durch einen Wahlbetrug an die Macht gekommen. Noch immer werden Anhänger der Oppositionsbewegung verfolgt und verhaftet. Und es besteht nach wie vor die Gefahr größerer gewaltsamer Zusammenstöße, wenn das Regime weiterhin so unnachgiebig und hart gegen die Reformbewegung vorgeht. Ahmadinejad muss bei seinem heutigen UN-Auftritt daran erinnert werden, dass die Welt die Lage im Iran genau beobachtet. Deswegen erwarte ich mir von Österreich und den anderen EU-Ländern ein deutliches Zeichen des Protests“, fordert Alexander Van der Bellen, außenpolitischer Sprecher der Grünen, anlässlich der heutigen Rede Ahmadinejad vor der UN-Generalversammlung. Auch sei zu erwarten, dass Ahmadinejad bei seiner Rede wieder auf Provokation setze und seine Angriffe auf Israel fortführe.
Van der Bellen hat in diesem Zusammenhang auch für die heute stattfindende Demonstration von „Stop the Bomb“ folgende Grußbotschaft verfasst: „Mahmood Ahmadinejad hat wiederholt berüchtigte nationale und internationale Auftritte geliefert. Er hat dabei auf unerträgliche Weise den Holocaust geleugnet und das
Existenzrecht Israels bestritten. Ahmadinejads Wahl zum iranischen Präsidenten war von Wahlbetrug und einer massiven Unterdrückung der iranischen Opposition gekennzeichnet. Iranerinnen und Iraner, die gegen seine Wahl protestierten wurden verfolgt, verhaftet, und teilweise gefoltert und vergewaltigt. Laut Berichten von Amnesty International gehen die Verfolgungen weiter. Die iranischen demokratischen Kräfte brauchen internationale Unterstützung.
Ich habe Außenminister Spindelegger gebeten, während der Rede Ahmadinejads vor der UN-Generalversammlung ein deutliches Zeichen des Protests zu setzen und sich dafür einzusetzen, dass auch die anderen europäischen Staaten einen solchen Protest setzen. Die Ereignisse im Iran dürfen uns nicht gleichgültig lassen.“

NEW YORK – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday night that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad „denies the murder of six million and is calling for the elimination of another six million.“
Netanyahu spoke shortly before Ahmadinejad’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The prime minister met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and urged him to speak out firmly against the Tehran regime.

„Mr. Secretary-General, we must hear your voice on Iran’s arms race, because it hurts peace in the entire world and doesn’t just threaten Israel,“ Netanyahu said.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who added that Ahmadinejad „denies the Holocaust and calls for the destruction of the State of Israel.“
In his General Assembly speech, the Iranian president attacked Israel, accusing the Jewish state of committing genocide in the territories. He criticized Western countries for ignoring its „racist aspirations“ and claimed that the Jews control politics and global economy.
During his speech, several Western delegations left the auditorium – including France, the United States and Sweden, which currently serves as the European Union president.
During his meeting with Ban, the prime minister said he had informed US President Barack Obama in advance that he would not be able to sit in the auditorium during his speech, „so as not to sit in the same room with the Holocaust denier calling for Israel’s destructions.“
The UN chief renounced Ahmadinejad’s remarks, clarifying that such statements were unacceptable. He added that he had condemned the Iranian president three times in the past, after Ahmadinejad expressed his doubts over the murder of Europe’s Jews.

BERLINKONTOR – Iran und Libyen desavouieren die UNO
An der diesjährigen Vollversammlung der Vereinten Nationen (VN) nehmen dieses Jahr über 100 Staats- und Regierungschefs teil. Die UNO hat derzeit 193 Mitglieder. Bundeskanzlerin Angela MERKEL (CDU) und ihr Herausforderer Außenminister Frank-Walter STEINMEIER (SPD) wollten ihren Wahlkampf nicht unterbrechen und blieben dem internationalen Forum fern. Auch diese Herbsttagung der UNO, die böswillige Kritiker gerne als „nutzlose und viel zu kostspielige Quasselbude!“ apostrophieren, weil der „Völkerbund“ nicht einen einzigen Krieg verhindern konnte, wurden von den Diktaturen der Welt erneut Marathon-Haßtiraden mißbraucht. Über 60 % der UN-Mitglieder sollen keine demokratisch gewählte Regierungen haben.
Der Führer der Iranischen Islamischen Republik, Mahmud AHMADINESCHAD, strapazierte das Weltforum mit nahezu faschistoiden Ausfällen und beschuldigte das „zionistische Regime“ in Israel wiederholt des Völkermordes. Eine kleine Minderheit – so der Präsident des Iran – dominiere „durch ihre komplizierten Verstrickungen die Politik, Wirtschaft und Kultur in großen Teilen der Welt“. Sie habe eine „neue Form der Sklaverei“ errichtet. Die manipulierten Wahlen in seinem Land nannte Ahmadinedschad „glorreich sowie ganz und gar demokratisch“. Mehrere Delegationen verließen die UN-Vollversammlung , darunter auch der deutsche Botschafter bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York, Thomas MATUSSEK, mit der deutschen Abordnung.
Auch Libyens Staatschef Muammar AL GADDAFI sorgte für einen Eklat. Er beschimpfte in einer wütenden, überlangen Rede den UN-Sicherheitsrat als „Terror-Rat.“ Er zerriss demontrativ einen Teil der UNO-Charta, die er während seiner Rede in der Hand hielt. Wieder verließen etliche Delegierte den Plenarsaal. Der afrikanische Despot forderte die Abschaffung des Vetorechts im Sicherheitsrat, und forderte die Zulassung neuer Mitglieder in den Security Council. US-Präsident Barack Hussein OBAMA lobte Gaddafi mehrmals als „mutigen Sohn Afrikas“ – der aber hatte mit der US-Delegation zusammen mit über 80 Delegierten anderer Staaten längst das Forum verlassen.

AJC – AJC: Ahmadinejad Soils UN General Assembly with Anti-Semitic Diatribe
September 23, 2009 – New York – AJC denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s speech to the UN General Assembly today as „the toxic words of a vicious tyrant hell-bent on acquiring nuclear weapons.“
After launching a tirade of abuse against Israel, which he referred to as the „Zionist regime,“ Ahmadinejad declared, „It is no longer acceptable that a small minority would dominate the politics, economy and culture of major parts of the world.“
„Once again, the UN has been soiled by Ahmadinejad’s grotesque anti-Semitic diatribes,“ said AJC Executive Director David Harris. „He is a liar: he denies the Holocaust. He is a dictator: he stole the Presidential election. He is a threat: he is intent on acquiring nuclear weapons. It’s time that the entire international community stopped treating Ahmadinejad as a statesman and recognized him for the dangerous thug he is.“
Several delegations chairs in the hall were empty as Ahmadinejad took the podium, among them those of Israel and Canada. „We express our profound appreciation to Lawrence Cannon, the Foreign Minister of Canada, and his colleagues for shunning Ahmadinejad in advance of his speech,“ Harris said. After Ahmadinejad launched his attack on „Zionists,“ the United States and many European delegations left the hall in protest.
Last week, as the Iranian regime’s security forces brutally crushed protestors who attempted to turn regime-sponsored „Al Quds Day“ events into protests against continuing repression inside the country, Ahmadinejad delivered another inflammatory speech at Tehran University in which he again described the Holocaust as a myth and called for the elimination of the State of Israel.
Thousands of people are expected to attend a rally countering Ahmadinejad tomorrow, September 24, outside the UN building in New York City. The rally has been sponsored by a wide range of human rights and community organizations, including AJC. -

According to Oren, the speech „is a call for telling the truth from a Holocaust denier. It’s a call for democracy from a leader who shoots protestors in the name of freedom. So weit nichts neues, UN-Vollversammlung halt. Streng genommen handelt es sich hierbei nicht einmal um eine Nachricht im eigentliche Sinne, besteht jene doch im Kern in der Weitergabe einer Neuigkeit. Ahmadinedschads antisemitische Rede im Kreise Delegierter der UN kam indes weder unerwartet, noch war sie die erste ihrer Art. Eine wahrhaftige Nachricht wäre gewesen, wenn Ahmadinedschad keine antisemitische Rede vor der UN-Vollversammlung gehalten hätte.
Überaus aufschlussreich ist hingegen eine Aussage der deutschen UN-Sprecherin:
Eine Sprecherin der deutschen Uno-Botschaft sagte, man habe die Israel-Passage als „inakzeptabel antisemitisch“ empfunden und habe daher mit vielen anderen europäischen Kollegen den Saal verlassen.
„Inakzeptabel antisemitisch“ impliziert unweigerlich, dass es auch ein „akzeptabel antisemitisch“ geben muss. Für diese Ehrlichkeit ist der deutschen Sprecherin zu danken, denn sie bringt so unfreiwillig den deutschen Spagat in Bezug auf Antisemitismus auf den Punkt, der gemeinhin als Staatsräson deklariert wird.
Auf der einen Seite gibt es einen „inakzeptablen Antisemitismus“, vertreten etwa durch Ahmadinedschad oder die Nationalsozialisten. Sich gegen diesen im Allgemeinen auch von der Mehrheit der Medien und Politiker als solchen bezeichneten Antisemitismus auszusprechen, ist in Deutschland ebenso selbstverständlich wie kostengünstig und folgenlos. Sobald jedoch bloße Rhetorik in Taten überzugehen droht, lässt das Engagement der selbst erklärten Gegner des „inakzeptablen Antisemitismus“ bereits merklich nach. Insbesondere dann, wenn es mit Einbußen für die deutsche Wirtschaft verbunden wäre.
Auf der anderen Seite gibt es das Gegenstück zum „inakzeptablen Antisemitismus“, jene von der deutschen UN-Sprecherin nicht einmal auf einen Begriff gebrachte Form des „akzeptablen Antisemitismus„. Dieser in weiten Teilen der Öffentlichkeit gar nicht als solcher wahrgenommene Antisemitismus zeichnet Felicia Langer und Henning Mankell ebenso aus wie gefühlte zwei Drittel der Linkspartei. Da dieser Antisemitismus in der Regel nicht einmal als Antisemitismus erkannt, jedenfalls nicht als solcher bezeichnet wird, wird er nicht bekämpft, sondern in Leitartikeln deutscher Tageszeitungen in die Welt posaunt oder in Form von Ehrungen für seine Anhänger zum gesellschaftlich Wünschenswerten verklärt.

Once again, on the eve of his departure to New York to deliver a speech Wednesday at the United Nations General Assembly, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad thumbed his nose at the world by declaring the Holocaust „A lie based on an improbable and mythical claim.“ His remarks drew universal condemnation, led by Germany’s Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who called Iran’s President, „a disgrace to his country“ and the EU, which accused him of „encouraging anti-semitism and hatred.“
Which brings us to the larger question: What kind of reception will Ahmadinejad get at the General Assembly? Will the presidents and prime ministers and their delegations inside the hall put his Holocaust denial aside and opt for the pragmatic role of just sitting and respectfully listening to his speech> Or will they find the courage to get up and walk out, demonstrating that there must be consequences for such tyranny?
Unfortunately, history is replete with examples where pragmatic reasoning prevented us from confronting tyrants and oppressors.
In 1936, Adolf Hitler already had a stained reputation. A year earlier, he had promulgated the Nuremberg Laws, which deprived Jews of their citizenship and isolated them from German society. His Propaganda Minister, Josef Goebbels, convinced him that it was in Germany’s best interest to do everything to bring the Olympics to Berlin. This, he argued, would enable Hitler to showcase the Third Reich to an international audience. Hitler agreed and, in a few weeks in August during the games, the streets of Nazi Germany were free of anti-Semitic posters and newspapers limited their attacks on Jews.
Forty-nine countries were sold on the pragmatic approach. They overlooked Hitler’s racist crimes and rushed to the Berlin Games, bringing with them prominent businessmen from around the world, who wound up praising the accomplishments of Hitler’s Reich.
Which led Frederick Birchalls, of The New York Times, to write then that the Olympics put the Nazis „back in the fold of nations,“ and even made them „more human again.“ That’s what we do when we provide a platform and sit there and listen to Ahmadinejad – we bestow legitimacy on him and his regime. -

„Wir schließen unsere Teilnahme an der Ausarbeitung neuer Entscheidungen des UN-Sicherheitsrates in Bezug auf Sanktionen gegen Iran nicht aus, falls es objektive Gründe dafür gibt“, sagte ein russischer Diplomat am Mittwoch am Rande der UN-Vollversammlung in New York.
Russland lasse sich dabei „nicht von Spekulationen, sondern von Berichten und Empfehlungen“ der Internationalen Atomenergiebehörde leiten, hieß es.
Am Dienstag hatte EU-Chefdiplomat Javier Solana gesagt, er gehe davon aus, dass sich China und Russland nicht gegen neue Wirtschaftssanktionen gegen Iran aussprächen, falls Teheran sein militärisches Atomprogramm weiterentwickle.

New York — Im Atomstreit mit dem Iran schließt Russland neue Sanktionen offenbar nicht mehr aus. Wenn die Vorwürfe gegen Teheran auf einer soliden Grundlage stünden, schließe Russland nichts aus, sagte ein russisches Delegationsmitglied, das namentlich nicht genannt werden wollte. Zunächst wolle Moskau aber Beweise von der Internationalen Atomenergiebehörde (IAEA) zum Stand des iranischen Atomprogramms sehen. Russland erwarte dabei keine „individuellen Einschätzungen“, sondern Berichte und Empfehlungen.
Die US-Regierung hatte dem Iran zuletzt mit weiteren Sanktionen gedroht, sollte das Land sich nicht zu Gesprächen über sein Atomprogramm bereit erklären. Die USA und andere westliche Staaten fürchten, dass Teheran unter dem Deckmantel der friedlichen Kernkraftnutzung heimlich am Bau von Atombomben arbeitet. Der russische Präsident Dmitri Medwedew hatte zusätzliche Sanktionen gegen den Iran im Juli noch als „kontraproduktiv“ abgelehnt.

WELT – Streit um Atomprogramm – Medwedjew offen für neue Sanktionen gegen Iran
Die USA und Russland wollen weiter versuchen, den Iran auf dem Verhandlungsweg von seinem umstrittenen Atomprogramm abzubringen. Es könnten aber auch neue Sanktionen nötig sein, meint Russland Präsident Medwedjew. In der kommenden Woche gehen die internationalen Gespräche mit dem Iran zu dem Thema in eine neue Runde.
Der russische Präsident Dmitri Medwedjew hat sich aufgrund des umstrittenen iranischen Atomprogramms offen für neue Sanktionen gegen Teheran gezeigt. Nach einem Treffen mit US-Präsident Barack Obama am Rande der UN-Vollversammlung in New York deutete Medwedew an, Sanktionen könnten nötig sein, falls der Iran sein Nuklearprogramm nicht einschränke. „Sanktionen führen nur selten zu produktiven Ergebnissen, aber in manchen Fällen sind sie unvermeidbar“, sagte Medwedjew.
Obama und er betonten gleichwohl, dass dem Verhandlungsweg zunächst Vorrang eingeräumt werde. Sollte sich der Iran dabei aber nicht bewegen, so Obama, blieben „schwerwiegende zusätzliche Sanktionen eine Möglichkeit“. Diesbezüglich seien Medwedew und er der gleichen Meinung, betonte der US-Präsident. Bereits vor dem Treffen der beiden Staatschefs hatten russische Nachrichtenagenturen unter Berufung auf Delegationskreise gemeldet, dass Moskau Sanktionen nicht länger ausschließe. Es war der erste Hinweis, dass Russland mögliche neue Strafmaßnahmen gegen den Iran im Atomstreit unterstützen könnte.
Damit steigt der Druck auf Teheran unmittelbar vor der neuen Gesprächsrunde mit den fünf ständigen UN-Sicherheitsratsmitgliedern und Deutschland in der kommenden Woche in Genf. Die Vertreter der sogenannten Sechsergruppe – USA, Russland, China, Frankreich, Großbritannien und Deutschland – trafen sich am Mittwoch am Rande der UN-Vollversammlung, um ihre Verhandlungstaktik für den kommenden Donnerstag abstimmen.

Bei einer Militärparade in Teheran hat der iranische Präsident Mahmud Ahmadinedschad vor einem möglichen Militärschlag gegen die Atomanlagen seines Landes gewarnt.
Teheran. „Unsere Streitkräfte werden überall in der Welt die Hand eines jeden abhacken, der eine Kugel in Richtung des Iran abschießen will, noch bevor er den Abzug betätigt“, sagte er in einer Rede während der Parade. „Keine Macht wird sich trauen, in ihrem Geiste die Vorstellung zu entwickeln, den Iran anzugreifen.“ „Teufelsanbeter und Kriminelle“ hätten den Nahen Osten „verschmutzt“, sagte Ahmadinedschad einen Tag vor seiner Rede vor den Vereinten Nationen in New York mit Blick auf Israel. Die politische und militärische Stärke des Iran erlaube es „diesen Elementen“ nicht einmal, an eine militärische Option zu denken.
Ahmadinedschad reagierte damit auf eine Äußerung von Israels stellvertretendem Außenminister Danny Ajalon, der am Montag wiederholte, im Hinblick auf das iranische Atomprogramm würden „alle Optionen auf dem Tisch liegen“. Damit brachte er erneut die Haltung der israelischen Regierung zum Ausdruck, im Zweifelsfall auch militärisch gegen die iranischen Atomanlagen vorzugehen. Ahmadinedschad hatte immer wieder das Existenzrechts Israels bestritten und gedroht, dass Land von der Landkarte zu fegen.
Auch gegen die ausländische Truppenpräsenz in Irans Nachbarstaaten Irak und Afghanistan wetterte Ahmadinedschad in seiner Rede. „Ich rate euch, in eure eigenen Länder zurückzukehren und die hohen Militärausgaben zu nutzen, um die Probleme eurer Völker zu lösen“, sagte der iranische Präsident. Israel bemüht sich unterdessen, einen Boykott der Rede Ahmadinedschads vor der Uno-Generalversammlung morgen zu organisieren. Israel habe sich in den vergangenen Tagen an die Außenministerien mehrerer Länder mit der Bitte gewandt, dass deren höchste Vertreter die Tagungshalle während der Rede Ahmadinedschads in New York verlassen, sagte die israelische Uno-Botschafterin Gabriela Schalev.

MOSKAU, 23. September (RIA Novosti). Nicht einmal ein Militärangriff wird laut der Regierung in Teheran das iranische Atomprogramm ruinieren. Kaum jemand werde aber eine Attacke wagen.
„Ich versichere, dass man die Anlagen nicht angreifen wird“, antwortete der Chef der iranischen Atomenergiebehörde, Ali-Akbar Salehi, auf die Frage, ob eine israelische Attacke auf Irans Atomanlagen möglich wäre.
Trotzdem nehme Teheran jede Bedrohung ernst, zitierte der iranische Sender Press TV am Mittwoch: „Wir haben all die erforderlichen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen, darunter in Bezug auf die Flugabwehr, getroffen. Wir führen regelmäßig Übungen an unseren Atomanlagen durch… Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass kein Militärangriff ist der Lage sein wird, das iranische Atomprogramm zu stoppen“.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his army would „cut off“ the hands of those who attack his country.
The Iranian president made the threat in an address to the nation Tuesday shortly before leaving for New York and the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
„No power will ever dare to think of launching aggression against Iran. Today, Iran is experienced and powerful,“ he said, according to the official Iranian news agency. „Our armed forces are ready to confront the forces of darkness. If anybody wants to shoot a bullet at us from anywhere, we will cut off his hands.“
The remarks come following Ahmadinejad’s statement last Friday that the Holocaust was „a lie.“
On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told his U.S. counterpart Robert Gates that Israel had not taken any option off the table when it comes to Iran’s nuclear program, including a military strike on the reactor.
Also Monday, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi told Army Radio that he would not rule out a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
„Israel has the right to defend itself,“ Ashkenazi said, „and all options are on the table.“ -
HANDELSBLATT – Irangeschäfte am Pranger der Medien
Public diplomacy“ ist zum Zauberwort in der internationalen Politik geworden. Denn im Medienzeitalter reicht es nicht mehr, Positionen zu haben, man muss sie auch erklären und den Druck der Öffentlichkeit nutzen, um sie durchzusetzen. Nichts fürchten Regierungen und Unternehmen bei heiklen Fragen mehr als eine Berichterstattung.
Welche Macht „public diplomacy“ haben kann, führen die Befürworter scharfer Iran-Sanktionen derzeit vor: So stellt eine amerikanische Nichtregierungsorganisation Siemens für sein Iran-Geschäft an den Pranger. Britische Zeitungen berichten darüber, dass chinesische Firmen Iran mit Benzin versorgen. In beiden Fällen soll damit ein Geschäft diskreditiert werden, das völlig legal, aber politisch nicht erwünscht ist.
Vor allem die chinesischen Lieferungen sind sehr sensibel. Während Amerikaner und Europäer gerade an einem neuen Sanktionspaket für den (wahrscheinlichen) Fall basteln, dass Iran seine umstrittene Urananreicherung nicht stoppt, helfen chinesische Firmen dem Regime in Teheran in einem strategisch sehr wichtigen Bereich. Denn angesichts fehlender Raffinerie-Kapazitäten würde ein Stopp von Benzinlieferungen Iran empfindlich treffen.
Das Geschäft zeigt, wie schwierig es ist, eine einheitliche internationale Front gegen das Regime aufzubauen. Angesichts des boomenden iranisch-chinesischen Handels muss China immer stärker die ökonomischen Nachteile eines Sanktionskurses mit berücksichtigen. Dabei ist man weder in Peking noch in Moskau überzeugt, dass die von Iran ausgehende Gefahr so groß ist, wie von den USA und der EU beschrieben. Der gezielt aufgebaute öffentliche Druck soll nun beim Nachdenken „helfen“.
Der Bericht ist zugleich ein wichtiger Testfall mit enormen Folgewirkungen geworden. Sollten sich die chinesischen Großkonzerne ähnlich wie europäische Unternehmen davon beeindrucken lassen, öffentlich an den Pranger gestellt zu werden, dürfte der Iran-Handel tatsächlich durch weitere gezielte Veröffentlichungen ausgetrocknet werden.
Nur: Sollte China unbeeindruckt weiter liefern, wäre klar, wie zahnlos der Westen mit seiner Sanktionspolitik geworden ist. Dann könnte auch „public diplomacy“ kaum noch helfen.-

That helps to explain why more than 40 north American unions as well as continental Europe’s largest trade union movement, the Confederation of German Trade Unions and its president, Michael Sommer, vehemently oppose boycotts of Israel.

The TUC declared itself furious with the Israeli unions for not having condemned the war in Gaza earlier this year. The resolution passed by the TUC calls for a „review“ of the relationship between the two national trade union centres. This is not going to help anyone – least of all the Palestinian workers. Their own national trade union centre – the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions – co-operates with the Histadrut, even if the TUC does not.

Less than three months ago, the international trade union movement – with the full support of British unions and the TUC – held a global day of solidarity with those Iranian workers. But this was not reflected at the TUC meeting. There was not a single resolution on Iran, and the subject was not discussed. This in spite of the unprecedented public protests in Iran following the fraudulent elections in June and the potential for the emergence of an Iranian version of „Solidarnosc“ – a trade union movement that might succeed in bringing down a hated authoritarian regime, as occurred in Poland in the 1980s.

AJC – New AJC Film: Iran Nuclear Weapons. Not Now. Not Ever.
As world leaders converged on New York for the 64th session of the UN General Assembly, AJC released a new one-minute film highlighting the danger of an Iran armed with nuclear weapons. „The time is now for the international community to act in concert to convince Iran to desist from its quest for nuclear weapons,“ said AJC. The film, „Iran: This is the Button,“ is the centerpiece of an AJC campaign to send letters and emails to Members of Congress and the UN Secretary-General, urging a clear stand against Iran’s nuclear policy. Within one day of the film’s release, it already had more than 10,000 viewers on You Tube and AJC.org, with the number climbing daily. -

French President Nicolas Sarkozy accused Iran’s leader of „blackmail“ Wednesday for suggesting a prisoner exchange might allow a young French academic to return home after she was arrested in Iranian postelection protests.
Sarkozy said he refuses to consider such a suggestion from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Washington D.C. – In a remarkable ecumenical and bipartisan display of unity, Christian leaders representing over 28 million evangelicals, Roman Catholics, and other Christians have sent a letter to Congress today and other key world leaders calling for urgent action to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The letter urges a total arms embargo and a cut off of exports of refined petroleum products, including gasoline, as a firm yet peaceful measure against the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.
The letter comes while the G-20 is meeting in Pittsburgh, Iranian President Ahmadinejad arrives in New York City to speak to the United Nations General Assembly and talks are scheduled with Iranian diplomats on October 1st.
„For the world’s most dangerous regime to obtain the world’s most dangerous weapons is something that neither the United States nor the community of nations can allow,“ the leaders told Congress, urging them to apply economic sanctions against foreign companies that export, ship, finance or broker refined petroleum products to Iran. Although Iran has large oil reserves, it has been unable to refine its petroleum products and is vulnerable to such sanctions.
The leaders include Pat Robertson of Christian Broadcasting Network, Southern Baptist Convention chairman and pastor Johnny Hunt of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Charles Colson of the Prison Fellowship Ministries, Richard Land of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Tom Minnery of Focus on the Family, Bill Donohue of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, , Dr. Michael Youssef of Leading the Way, Dr. James Merritt of Cross Pointe Church, Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America, Gary Bauer of American Values, and Dr. John Hagee of the Conerstone Church in San Antonio.

The letter is an initiative of Christian Leaders for a Nuclear-Free Iran, an ad hoc coalition of evangelical, Roman Catholic and other faith leaders who have come together as a united, ecumenical voice that is reaching out to policy makers and opinion leaders calling for urgent action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The coalition argues that Iran’s nuclear weapons program will destabilize the Middle East, lead to an arms race in a volatile part of the world, and threaten the United States and its allies in Europe. -
WJC – Argentine president to mention Iranian defiance during UN speech
Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will mention Iran and its connection to the 1994 AMIA center bombing in her speech to the UN General Assembly in New York this week, according to Argentina’s UN ambassador Jorge Argüello has said. He told a Buenos Aires radio station: „We have publicly called on Iran to comply with international agreements and to pave the way for Interpol regarding the detention of officials and ex-officials which are under an international arrest warrant.“
The Argentinean envoy in New York also said that representatives of the AMIA organizations and relatives of victims of the 1994 AMIA attack would be in New York during the UN General Assembly debate this week. -

Iranian president meets with US newspaper editors, says his country’s disputed nuclear program is a ‚humanitarian issue‘
WASHINGTON – On the backdrop of his fiery UN General Assembly speech and the dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program, the Iranian president says he wants to cure the world. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that he is willing to have Iranian nuclear experts meet with their American counterparts and experts from other countries involved in talks on the nuclear issue.
Ahmadinejad spoke Wednesday with editors and reporters of the Washington Post and Newsweek magazine. He said he would examine whether US President Barack Obama’s intentions of hold a real dialogue are serious. „I think it is a very solid proposal which gives a good opportunity for a start,“ he said.
The Iranian president added that „these nuclear materials we are seeking to purchase are for medicinal purposes… It is a humanitarian issue.“
According to the Washington Post, nuclear research reactors are used to create radioactive isotopes for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Ahmadinejad said in the interview that about 20 medical products are created at a reactor in Tehran but that more fuel is needed.
The Iranian president stated that the attention focused on his country’s uranium enrichment was misplaced, because it is only for electricity and cannot be used for bombs.
„Don’t you think it is hilarious to say that it is potentially dangerous for Iran to possess one nuclear warhead for the whole world, but that the fact that the United States possesses 10,000 of them poses no threat whatsoever?“ he asked.
Russia moves closer to backing sanctions
Meanwhile, the international efforts to pressure Iran to launch a significant dialogue on the nuclear issue continue. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has convened a meeting with the foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, China and Russia, in order to prepare for the October 1 meeting between the six world powers and a senior Iranian representative in Geneva.-

Gemeinhin wird in allen Ländern dieser Welt in Schaufenstern das präsentiert, was sich besonders gut verkauft oder bald gut verkaufen soll und könnte – Werbung heißt diese Maßnahme. In den Passanten soll die Gier nach etwas erzeugt oder verstärkt werden, was sie noch nicht haben, aber gerne hätten. In Iran ist das so nicht möglich: Die iranische Polizei hat Dessous aus den Schaufenstern des Landes verbannt.
Die Behörden seien eingeschritten, nachdem es Berichte über den Einsatz „unangemessener und schockierender Schaufensterpuppen“ gegeben habe, berichtete die Zeitung Arman. Es sei ein Vergehen, Damenunterwäsche in Schaufenstern öffentlich zur Schau zu stellen.
Scharf durchgegriffen werde auch gegen allzu kurvige Schaufensterpuppen, gegen solche, die keinen Schleier trügen sowie gegen Schaufenster, die westliche Marken und westliche Kleidung oder „unmoralische Fotografien“ zeigten. Auch Krawatten sind verboten. Männliche Verkäufer dürften zudem keine Damenwäsche feilbieten, hieß es weiter.
Akzetabel seien Schaufensterpuppen mit Dessous lediglich im Inneren von ausschließlich für Frauen reservierten Geschäften. Nach den strengen Kleidungsvorschriften der Islamischen Republik müssen Frauen in der Öffentlichkeit stets ein Kopftuch tragen, Krawatten sind verboten. In den vergangenen Jahren feierte der Schlips bei reichen Bewohnern von Teheran jedoch ein Comeback.
Wie ein Verstoß gegen die Verbote von unerwünschten Waren im Schaufenster bestraft wird, ist nicht bekannt. -
POLITICO – Ahmadinejad wants leniency for hikers
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he will request leniency for three American hikers who apparently strayed across Iran’s border in July and have been held ever since.
The Americans broke the law, and „we’re not happy that this happened,“ Ahmadinejad told The Associated Press on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
„What I can ask is that the judiciary expedites the process and gives it its full attention, and to basically look at the case with maximum leniency,“ Ahmadinejad said, according to AP. „The judiciary has its own procedures to follow, but I’m hopeful.“
The Americans — Shane Bauer, Joshua Fattal and Sarah Shourd — have been held for more than 50 days, since they apparently strayed into Iran while hiking in northern Iraq’s Kurdistan region. -

Über ein nicht alltägliches Geschenk darf sich die Marktgemeinde Straß freuen. Seit wenigen Tagen ist sie nämlich Besitzer eines Bauernhauses aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Der bisherige Eigentümer – ein Wiener Diplomat – hat der Kommune das unter dem Vulgonamen „Simmiweber“-Hof bekannte Gebäude mitten im Ortsteil Gersdorf samt Inventar zum Nulltarif überlassen. Allerdings unter zwei Bedingungen: Es muss der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden und darf zu seinen Lebzeiten nicht veräußert und nur unwesentlich verändert werden.
„Wir haben dieses Angebot vor etwa einem Jahr bekommen. Obwohl es verlockend klingt, haben wir uns das im Gemeinderat natürlich genau überlegt. Schließlich müssen die Gemeinde und die Bevölkerung auch einen Nutzen daraus ziehen“, erklärt Bürgermeister Reinhold Höflechner.
Aufgrund des außerordentlich guten Zustandes des Gebäudes und des historisch hochwertigen Hausrates habe sich eine Nachnutzung als Museum aber geradezu aufgedrängt. „Wir haben vor, den Simmiweber-Hof in ein kleines, aber feines Bauern-Museum umzuwandeln. Besucher sollen einen Eindruck davon gewinnen, wie das bäuerliche Leben in der Südsteiermark vor rund 200 Jahren ausgeschaut hat“, meint Höflechner.
Tourismus-Attraktion
Bis es so weit ist, müssen sich Interessierte aber noch ein wenig gedulden. Die Inbetriebnahme ist nämlich frühestens Mitte des nächsten Jahres geplant. „Zuerst muss die Geschichte des Hofes sowie das Inventar penibel wissenschaftlich aufgearbeitet werden. Diesbezüglich habe ich beim Universalmuseum Joanneum bereits vorgefühlt“, hofft Höflechner auf eine Kooperation. Um den Museumsbetrieb zu ermöglichen, seien aber auch geringfügige bauliche Maßnahmen notwendig. „Ziel ist es, den Simmiweber-Hof als dritte große Tourismus-Attraktion neben Attemsmoor und Garnisonsmuseum zu etablieren“, so Höflechner.
Das wünscht sich auch Vorbesitzer Thomas Buchsbaum. Bevor der Diplomat seine neue Stelle als Botschafter in der iranischen Hauptstadt Teheran antritt, hat er die Schlüssel für den Simmiweber-Hof dieser Tage übergeben: „Bedingt durch meinen Beruf kann ich nicht oft dort sein. Mir ist wichtiger, dass die Öffentlichkeit etwas davon hat.“ Zu sehen gebe es dort jedenfalls genug. „Schließlich ist es in der gesamten Umgebung eines der letzten originalgetreuen Bauernhäuser aus dieser Zeit“, hofft Buchsbaum auf großes Interesse. -

Chinese state companies this month began supplying petrol to Iran and now provide up to one-third of its imports in a development that threatens to undermine US-led efforts to shut off the supply of fuel on which its economy depends.
The sales come in spite of moves over the past year by international companies, including BP and Reliance of India, to stop selling petrol to Iran, and highlight the difficulties of implementing sanctions aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Pünktlich zu Semesterbeginn setzt sich Revolutionsführer Chamenei für eine weitere „Islamisierung“ der Hochschulen ein. Unter Ahmadinedschad hat sich der Druck bereits verschärft.
Bis zuletzt war es nicht sicher, ob Irans Universitäten am Mittwoch ihre Tore für die rund dreieinhalb Millionen Studierenden öffnen würden. Denn auch die Verantwortlichen wissen sehr wohl, dass die Studenten in ihrer Mehrheit der Opposition angehören und viele von ihnen an der Protestbewegung der letzten Monate aktiv beteiligt waren.
Schon wenige Tage nach Beginn der Massenproteste gegen den Betrug bei der Präsidentenwahl vom 12. Juni organisierten die Ordnungskräfte und Basij-Milizen einen Überfall auf das Studentenheim der Universität Teheran, bei dem zahlreiche Studenten verletzt und festgenommen wurden. Nun wird befürchtet, dass mit dem neuen Semester neue Unruhen an den Universitäten ausbrechen könnten.
Der neue Wissenschaftsminister, Kamran Danedschu, versuchte bei seiner Nominierung im Parlament die Gemüter zu beruhigen. „Die Atmosphäre an den Universitäten“ sei „ausgesprochen günstig“, sagte er. „Unsere Studenten und Wissenschaftler sind klug genug und werden dafür sogen, dass nicht Ungewöhnliches passiert.“
Dabei könnte der neue Minister selbst einen Anlass zu Protesten liefern, denn gerade er war der oberste Wahlleiter bei der Präsidentenwahl und in dieser Funktion für die eklatante Fälschung mitverantwortlich. Daher ist es schwer vorstellbar, dass er als Wissenschaftsminister die erforderliche Akzeptanz an den Universitäten erhalten wird.
Aber die Probleme des islamischen Staats mit den Universitäten gehen weit über die Wahlen und den jüngsten Unruhen hinaus. Diese machten sich bald nach der Gründung der Islamischen Republik bemerkbar. Dem Revolutionsführer Ayatollah Chomeini war von Anbeginn bewusst, dass Universitäten, an denen zwangsläufig moderne Wissenschaften gelehrt werden, mit der gesellschaftlichen Auffassung konservativer Geistlicher nicht in Einklang zu bringen sind. Er berief daher einen Rat der Kulturrevolution, der die Universitäten und Hochschulen „vollständig islamisieren“ sollte. Zwei Jahre lang blieben sämtliche Universitäten des Landes geschlossen. Aber die Versuche scheiterten, weil modernes, aufklärerisches Denken nicht aus der Lehre und Forschung verbannt werden konnten.
Seit der Amtsübernahme Präsident Mahmud Ahmadinedschad wurde die Idee wieder aufgenommen. Hunderte fortschrittliche Professoren wurden entlassen, die Zulassung der Studenten wurde von einer ideologischen Überprüfung abhängig gemacht. Zudem wurden die Universitäten der Kontrolle der Ordnungskräfte unterstellt. Die Akte politisch engagierter Studenten wird mit ein oder zwei Sterne versehen, mit der Folge, dass sie im nachfolgenden Semester nicht mehr immatrikuliert oder mit Jahre langem Studienverbot bestraft werden. Diese Studenten werden als „Stern-Studenten“ bezeichnet. Viele von ihnen sitzen zurzeit im Gefängnis.
Eine noch gravierendere Maßnahme bestand in der Aufnahme von Basij-Milizen an den Universitäten, für die eine Quote von 40 Prozent vorgesehen wurde. Den Basidjis fehlten die Voraussetzungen für ein Hochschulstudium, was zufolge hatte, dass seitdem das Niveau des Lehrbetriebs erheblich gesunken ist. Eine weitere Folge ist die zunehmende Militarisierung der Universitäten. Doch die aktive Teilnahme der Studenten an den jüngsten Protesten machte deutlich, dass die islamischen Strategen noch von ihrem Ziel weit entfernt sind, was dem Revolutionsführer Ali Chamenei nach eigenen Angaben „große Sorgen“ bereitet. -
MESAH – How to beat Iran’s pipeline strategy
While Washington is mulling over what to do next in order to weaken Iran economically, this summer the Islamic Republic has taught us a lesson in strategic maneuvering, taking major steps to bolster its economy and geopolitical posture by positioning itself as an indispensable energy supplier to hundreds of millions of people.
Last May, I described here how after 14 years of negotiations, Iran, which has the world’s second largest natural gas reserves, signed a deal to connect its economy with its eastern neighbor, Pakistan, via a 1,300-mile natural gas pipeline. Both Iran and Pakistan hope to extend the pipeline into India and perhaps even into China. This would not only give Iran a foothold in the Asian gas market and ensure that millions of Pakistanis, Indians and perhaps Chinese are beholden to Iran’s gas, but it would also provide Iran with an economic lifeline and the diplomatic protection energy-dependent economies typically grant their suppliers.
Not wasting any time, Iran is now implementing the second tenet of its pipeline strategy. In July, it announced that by the end of 2009 it will be connected with its northern neighbor, Turkmenistan, Central Asia’s largest gas producer, via a pipeline. Turkmenistan’s interest in pumping its gas to Iran stems from its desire to diversify its export market. Two-thirds of Turkmenistan’s gas flow to Russia, and the dependence on one major client allows Moscow to take advantage of its former republic. But why would energy-rich Iran want to import gas from its neighbor? The answer is the Nabucco pipeline.
For some years, a number of European governments and a consortium of energy companies have been lobbying for the construction of a pipeline from Central Asia via Turkey and the Balkan states to Austria, aimed to ease Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. Last July an intergovernmental accord on Nabucco was signed in Ankara. Scheduled to be completed by 2014 at a cost of over $11 billion, the 2,000-mile pipe is estimated to supply between 5-10 percent of the EU’s projected gas consumption in 2020.-

Iranian armed forces today kicked off the first day of week-long ceremonies commemorating the eight years of Sacred Defense (the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war). The parade included marches and aerial maneuvers by parachutists, fighters and helicopters.
The main branches of Iran’s armed forces, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the Iranian Military, and the Basij voluntary force all took part in the event.
Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and the Iranian Army have separate but coordinated army, navy, and air forces.
Fighter jets, tactical planes, reconnaissance aircrafts and tankers were among the air force fleet that staged maneuvers during the parade. Helicopters, unmanned planes, sophisticated missile defense systems, were also displayed.
The deterrent missiles included Azarakhsh (lighting) and Saeqeh (thunderbolt), a joint product of the Iranian air force and the defense ministry, which were also exhibited during last year’s Holy Defense Week parades. The domestically-manufactured Sejjil missile was also showcased for the first time during the parade.
Tanks, air defense systems, and other missiles, from short-range to long range, were also part of the show.
Also, the army is displaying the latest domestically manufactured equipment and a state-of-the-art air defense missile system.

A senior IRGC commander has said that the courage shown by the Iranian nation in different arenas, including in the Iran-Iraq war, has discouraged enemies from staging a new attack on the country.
Commander of the IRGC’s Aba-Abdellah brigade Ali Ostan-Hossein said: „The Iranian youths stood against all Eastern and Western superpowers, by relying on the power of their faith, and did not allow the breakaway of even one span of Iran’s soil, and discouraged enemies from staging a new attack on the country.“

Iran’s Basij forces commander Hojjatoleslam Hossein Taeb today cautioned that the U.S. is hiring agents and mercenaries in an effort to continue its plots for a soft overthrow of the Iranian regime.
He said, „The U.S. has put on its agenda three issues for the soft overthrow of the Islamic Republic, including attraction, employment, and coercion.“
Taeb was speaking at a ceremony in Kerman province marking Sacred Defense week.

Mohsen Qeraati, director of Iran’s Friday prayer headquarters, has said that the slogan „No Lebanon, No Gaza, I’ll Sacrifice My Soul for Iran,“ chanted on Qods Day by supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, is against the Koran.
He attacked Mousavi’s supporters for their homeland worship, calling it heresy, and said that only God should be worshipped.

MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Tabnak Warns Against Moscow’s New Iran Policy
The Iranian website Tabnak states that Moscow’s condemnation of Holocaust denial, in addition to a Russian expert’s warning regarding the Iranian missile threat to Russia and Europe, attest to a change in Russia’s policy towards Iran.
According to the website, the U.S.’s withdrawal of its missile program in Europe will have a negative effect on Moscow-Tehran relations.
The website added that Moscow was aware of Iranian public opinion’s hostility towards it, and of the pressure that it exerts on the Iranian regime against Moscow; thus, it concludes, Moscow’s recent moves constituted a hint to the Iranian regime that there was a security and international price to be paid for this hostility against it.
