TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle held a telephone conversation on Saturday, in which they discussed the residence of Abdul Rahman Haji Ahmadi, the leader of the counter-revolutionary group PJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) in Germany.
Salehi pointed to the terrorist attacks that PJAK has been carrying out against Iran and called on the German government to take measures necessary to bring Haji Ahmadi to justice.
Westerwelle said that this is a legal issue and promised that he will seriously pursue the matter when presented with compelling evidence.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has recently launched an offensive against PJAK near Iran’s border with Iraq.
On July 22, six IRGC troops were martyred in the Alvatan region near the Kurdish city of Sardasht as their vehicle hit the landmine laid by PJAK members.

WASHINGTON – Eight months after he narrowly survived an assassination attempt on the streets of Tehran, Fereydoon Abbasi, the nuclear physicist whom Iran’s mullahs have put in charge of the country’s Atomic Energy Organization, is presiding over what intelligence officials in several countries describe as an unexpected quickening of Iran’s production of nuclear material.
The selection of Dr. Abbasi earlier this year was itself a clear message to the West. As a university scientist, he was barred from traveling outside Iran by the United Nations Security Council because of evidence that his main focus was on how to build nuclear weapons, rather than power plants. But in recent weeks he has publicly declared that his country is preparing to triple its production of a type of nuclear fuel that moves it far closer to the ability to produce bomb-grade material in a hurry.
Filtering out the hyperbole surrounding recent proclamations about Iran’s tangible progress is always difficult, especially at a time when the country is determined to show that neither the Stuxnet computer worm, which crippled part of its nuclear infrastructure last year, nor Western sanctions have proved to be more than modest setbacks. Dr. Abbasi himself is rarely seen or heard outside of Iran.
But international nuclear inspectors and American officials say that all the evidence points to the imminent installation of centrifuges at an underground nuclear plant on a military base near the city of Qum. LONDON, July 25 (UPI) — London is “horrified” by the images of three Iranians hanged from a bridge before a crowd of onlookers, the British foreign secretary said.
A video clip provided to Amnesty International shows what appear to be three men hanged from a bridge near the central square in Kermanshah. In the video, guards secure ropes around the necks of three men standing on top of buses. One more reason to invest in the idea of freedom within the Islamic Republic.
Two years after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s fraudulent re-election to the Iranian presidency, it would be fair to say that Iran’s pro-democracy reform movement is on the ropes. Key leaders of the Green Movement have vanished from public view, confined to house arrest or simply “disappeared” by the regime. Protesters, having been systematically bloodied at the hands of Iran’s basij militia, have retreated to the Internet for virtual dissent. The authorities have followed them there, erecting an increasingly draconian web-filtering system aimed at isolating dissidents from each other and from the outside world.
But Iran’s beleaguered democrats are starting to show heartening new signs of life. A number of Green Movement intellectuals in Tehran recently published a manifesto on the Century Foundation’s InsideIRAN.org website. Invited by AMIA to attend the 17th anniversary of the atrocity, I was struck how democracies can succumb to the blandishments of tyrannies, at best, by wishful thinking.
Iran’s “offer” to Argentina “to cooperate in clarifying the circumstances” of its own bombing, should have been rejected with outrage, just as Washington would unquestionably have acted upon an al Qaeda overture to assist in a 9/11 enquiry.
The Tehran message had a blatant sting in its tail: “cooperation is to avoid the judicial investigation continuing along a false path — since the beginning of a conspiracy and a political game.” Buenos Aires’ immediate diplomatic response discredits Interpol’s chargesheet against eight Iranians and their executive arm, Hizbollah.
Tehran’s “condemnation of terrorist actions, particularly against the Jewish Centre,” can only be scorned as a desecration of the 85 victims, the 300 wounded and their families.
One may well ask how Argentina — long the champion for justice in this case — can now simper to what it calls “a very positive opening for dialogue,” with a State that stones women, immolates Ba’hais and gays, tortures its opposition and openly reviles Jews?
Iran’s offer is infused with the same bitter “humour” as its “International Holocaust Cartoon contest.” Indeed, it would claim that AMIA is as much in question as President Ahmadinejad proclaims was the Holocaust.
Both, however, have serious backup menaces: when they say “Holocaust,” they mean “let’s make it a reality,” with nuclear capacity for mass destruction and terrorist patronage. When they say “AMIA,” they mean mass distraction from the nests of Hizbollah and military infiltration being laid across the Southern Cone.
A year ago, it was in an interview with the Buenos Aires Herald that our Centre revealed the reality of Iran-link terrorist sleepers across this continent, including Argentina.
This month, Roger Noriega, former US Under-secretary for the Western Hemisphere, identified to a Congressional Committee “80 operative Hizbollah cells in the region.” We should perhaps also mention the Shahab-3 Iranian missile base being built on the Venezuelan coast with a range of 2,000 km.
If Iran wishes to “cooperate,” it must agree to dismantle its terror and arms networks in Latin America.
Its only “cooperation” regarding the AMIA must be to hand over its implicated citizens for trial under Argentine rule of law.
As I told a senior Argentine official at the AMIA commemoration, quoting Winston Churchill on appeasing tyranny: “democracies feed the beast, hoping to be eaten last.” In the case of Iran, the beast is alive and living among us.
