    1. HA’ARETZAhmadinejad: Iran will respond ‚decisively‘ to U.S., Israel attacks
Iranian president tells Russia Today news network that although Iran would retaliate harshly in the event of attack, there is no reason to launch a strike against the Islamic republic.

    2. EUROPEAN DEMOCRACY – Anti-Semitism in the Majlis (German)
The German Bundestag maintains parliamentary relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Pseudo-Parliament (the Majlis). The Bundestag believes that „paths of communications amongst Parliamentarians could be important.“ For this reason it is surely important to be aware of the anti-Semitic stances taken by the scientific department of the Iranian Majlis.

    3. THE NATIONALIran gloats over English riots, chastises politicians
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, has condemned what he termed the savage clampdown by English police on rampaging youths and urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action.
„British politicians should look to help their own people instead of invading Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya to plunder their oil,“ Mr Ahmadinejad said yesterday.
„Even if one hundredth of these crimes were to happen in countries opposed to the West, the UN and other organisations claiming to defend human rights would vehemently decry it.“
While David Cameron, the British prime minister, has called the mayhem in England „criminality, pure and simple“, Mr Ahmadinejad portrayed it as peaceful protests brutally suppressed by police.
Television footage of riot police battling to quell England’s worst civil unrest in 30 years has led news coverage in countries that London accuses of human-rights abuses, giving their governments a welcome opportunity to strike back.

    4. CNNBrazil, Iran foster stronger ties
(CNN) — Representatives from Brazil and Iran met this week and agreed to enhance relations between the two countries, a signal that Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will follow the example of her predecessor and demonstrate Brazil’s diplomatic independence by dealing with a nation under scrutiny for its nuclear program.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani and his Brazilian counterpart, Maria Edileuza Fontenele, met Tuesday, Iran’s state-run Press TV reported.
The deputies called for „the speedy implementation of agreements“ reached by the two countries in the past. Such cooperation includes areas such as agriculture, biofuels and technology.
Fontenele described Iran as one of „the most important partners of Brazil“ and an „influential“ country in the world, Press TV reported.
Such praise for Iran is likely to make observers in the United States and other countries cringe, as Tehran is under recent sanctions for its alleged nuclear weapons program. But Brazil, an emerging economic and political power, appears intent to try to make room for itself at the table of diplomatic powers by inserting itself in some of the world’s most challenging conflicts. Iran is one of them.
Last year, Brazil — which at the time held a non-permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council — voted against sanctions for Iran, instead touting its own negotiations, along with Turkey, to resolve the standoff.
Brazil and Turkey worked out a nuclear swap deal with Iran, where Turkey would act as an intermediary for Iran to get highly enriched uranium from abroad. But the deal didn’t gain traction and was overshadowed by U.S. and other sanctions.
Also last year, Brazil formally offered asylum to Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman convicted of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning. It’s not clear if that offer has been accepted by Iranian authorities.

    5. GSN Iran to Deploy Higher-Orbiting Satellite
A planned Iranian-built satellite would circle the earth at an altitude of more than 22,000 miles, far higher than orbiters previously deployed by the Middle Eastern nation, the Iranian Students‘ News Agency reported on Monday (see GSN, July 13).
Students at Iran’s Sharif University of Technology would build the craft, „the last student satellite series which is to be fired into space,“ university president Reza Rosta-Azad told the news agency.

The lower orbits of Iran’s previously launched satellites have limited the amount of time they could remain in space, he said (
Iranian Students‘ News Agency, Aug. 9). Tehran last month indicated it had deployed its Rasad 1 satellite at an orbit of roughly 160 miles, the Xinhua News Agency reported (Xinhua News Agency, Aug. 9).
„Satellites should be sent into space when the launch power is raised, so that they would remain in space for a long time to work more effectively,“ Rosta-Azad told ISNA. „The first Iranian satellite launched into space managed to remain for two months (see
GSN, Feb. 3, 2009). The second one which is able to take photos was placed at a higher altitude and has a more lifespan.“
Iran would formally announce the new orbiter at a later date, he said (Iranian Students‘ News Agency).

The United States and other countries closely monitor Iranian space developments, as the same ballistic missile technology that is used to launch satellites can also be used to fire warheads, according to Xinhua. Iran’s continuing nuclear development is suspected by Washington and other governments of being secretly aimed at attaining a weapons capability, a charge Tehran strongly denies (Xinhua News Agency).

    6. YNET Iran gearing for ‚cyber war‘?
Tehran establishes new cyber command as Iranian technology minister vows to ‚block Israel’s unmatched cyber terrorism‘
Iran’s Information and Communications Technology Minister Reza Taghipour accused Israel on Friday of „unmatched cyber terrorism“ against nations the world over.
Israel, he stated, „Ranks first in cyber terror across the globe.“
      Quoted by
Iran’s Press TV, Taghipour accused Israel of „backing cyber terrorism“ and using „cyber malwares… and many other forms of state terrorism.“ The Iranian minister said Tehran was not only fighting back, but also implementing „retaliatory measures.“

    8. NETTRIBUNE(dapd-Serie: 11.

    1. CNNTrailblazing HIV doctors jailed in Iran
Dr. Kamiar Alaei and his brother, Dr. Arash Alaei, have been called pioneers for their community-based approach to HIV and AIDS in Iran.
Since opening a hometown clinic in 1999, the men have been raising awareness about HIV, dispelling myths about the virus and treating people who are shunned because of it. They have also reached out to their neighbors in Afghanistan and Tajikistan and worked with medical universities in Europe and the United States.
But in 2008, the Alaeis were arrested by the Iranian government. According to Kamiar, they were charged with „communication with an enemy government“ and for trying to „overthrow the government.“ Kamiar says the charges had no merit, but he and his brother were found guilty and thrown into Iran’s notorious Evin prison.

  4. Internationale Reaktionen (z.B. Sanktionen) und iranische Gegenreaktionen…

    1. AFREUTERSUK tells Iran happy to talk human rights after riot criticism
TEHRAN (Reuters) – Britain told Iran on Thursday it was happy to discuss its handling of street unrest after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused its police of „savage“ aggression against demonstrators.
Britain helped lead Western condemnation of Iran’s crackdown on protests against Ahmadinejad’s re-election in June 2009. He was quick on Wednesday to criticise the British police’s „crushing attack“ on unarmed citizens.
In a letter to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Britain’s top diplomat in Tehran said she hoped such openness would encourage Tehran to allow a U.N.-appointed investigator looking into alleged human rights violations in Iran to enter the country.
„I would remind you that the UK has a standing invitation to all U.N. special rapporteurs and has facilitated the visits of a number of these rapporteurs to the UK in recent years,“ British Charge d’Affaires Jane Marriott wrote, noting that Ahmadinejad had called for the United Nations to condemn Britain’s action.
„I urge the Iranian government to extend a similar courtesy to the dedicated U.N. special rapporteur for the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, to enable him to address the international community’s grave concerns about ongoing human rights violations within Iran.“
The U.N. Human Rights Council voted in March to nominate a special rapporteur for Iran to look into its crackdown on the opposition and frequent use of the death penalty.

    3. JTAJewish groups in Uruguay protesting envoy’s Holocaust denial
BUENOS AIRES (JTA) — Jewish institutions in Uruguay have planned a demonstration against statements denying the Holocaust made by the Iranian ambassador to the country.
Thursday’s demonstration also will protest the growing influence of the Iranian regime in the region, as well as call for the Holocaust and other genocides to be included in the Uruguayan education curriculum.
It coincides with a visit by the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister to Europe and America, Ali Ahani, who began a South American tour this week that includes Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil.
The rally, called „Against Memory Extermination,“ was organized by the Jewish Central Committee of Uruguay, Zionist Youth Federation and the Memory of the Holocaust Center.
„What happened in Uruguay shows the true intentions of the Iranian government behind commercial ties with Latin American countries,“ Claudio Epelman, director of the Latin American Jewish Congress, told JTA. „Iran seeks to spread its idea of anti-Semitism and hatred in the region. One cannot shield the trade relations between countries of their ideologies and politics.“
