    2. EURASIA REVIEWThe Mottled Relationship: Iran And Latin America – Analysis
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Latin America have been fostering closer relationships for more than a decade, working towards building cohesive diplomatic relations and strengthening economic agreements. These ties began with Cuba’s championing of the 1979 Iranian revolution, and today those connections also extend to Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and the ever-controversial Venezuela, with these amplified ties being sedulously cultivated by Tehran. Due to Iran’s internal politics, such as its controversial nuclear program, its contemptible human rights record, and its often tense, if not minatory, relations with the U.S., initiatives between Tehran and the Western Hemispheric states have come under heavy critique. As a result, there is speculation and differing interpretations over the existing level of influence that Iran currently enjoys in several nations of Latin America.

    3. REUTERSANALYSIS – How close is Iran to the bomb? Depends who you ask
(Reuters) – Either Iran could build a nuclear bomb in a matter of months or it is unlikely to get such a weapon any time soon — depending on which Western expert you talk to.
The differing estimates show the difficulty in trying to assess how long it could take Iran to convert its growing uranium stockpile into weapons-grade material and how advanced it may be in other areas vital for any bomb bid.
The answers to those questions could determine the major powers‘ room for manoeuvre in trying to find a diplomatic solution to a dispute over Iran’s nuclear ambitions which has the potential to spark a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes. Western-based analysts generally agree with their governments that Tehran is developing technology that could be used to make a bomb, but they disagree about just how close it is to success.

    4. NYTIran Mass-Produces New Missile and Rejects ‘Hot Line‘ Idea With America– President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran unveiling the new missile ‚Qader‘ at a news conference in August in Tehran.
Iran announced the mass production of a new cruise missile on Wednesday, the latest in a series of belligerent-sounding proclamations from that country in the face of its increased isolation by a Western-led group of nations worried about Iran’s nuclear program and avowed hostility toward Israel.
Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s defense minister, said the new missile, first unveiled a month ago and known as the Qader, which means Able in Farsi, had been mass-produced „as quickly as possible,“ the country’s state-run media reported. The missile, designed to destroy warships and coastal targets, has a range of about 125 miles, the media said.

In a curious case of enemies uniting against a common foe, the Yemen-based compiler of the terrorist organisation’s Inspire magazine wrote that President Ahmadinejad had appeared „ridiculous“ when he questioned the origins of the attack that killed almost 3,000 people.
„The Iranian government has professed on the tongue of its president Ahmadinejad that it does not believe that al Qaeda was behind 9/11 but rather, the US government,“ it said. „So we may ask the question: why would Iran ascribe to such a ridiculous belief that stands in the face of all logic and evidence?“

    1. WSJIran’s Lawyers Who Need Lawyers – The arrest of Abdolfattah Soltani is only the latest instance of a disturbing trend.
Iranian human-rights lawyer Abdolfattah Soltani was arrested in Tehran earlier this month—re-arrested, actually. This was Mr. Soltani’s third detention since 2005. Sometimes Tehran files charges and sometimes—as currently appears to be the case for Mr. Soltani—it doesn’t bother.
Mr. Soltani’s only crime is that he defends Iran’s persecuted Bahais, who form the country’s largest religious minority. Mr. Soltani, along with Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi, co-founded Iran’s Centre for Human Rights Defenders, which Tehran shut down in 2008.
When he was arrested this month, Mr. Soltani had been preparing to represent a number of detained Bahais who had been detained for their work at the Bahai Institute for Higher Education. This informal initiative gives young Bahais a chance to study, since Iran bars them from university for their beliefs.

    2. DIEPRESSEPastor droht im Iran die Todesstrafe
Teheran/Wien/Ag.

      2. FOXNEWSFacing Execution for the ‚Crime‘ of Being a Christian In Iran
In 2010, the Iranian regime carried out 546 executions, more than at any other time during the preceding decade, and representing an increase of around 25 per cent on the previous year. Increasingly, execution is becoming Tehran’s favored method for dealing with anyone it deems an opponent — like Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, an Iranian pastor who has refused to recant his Christian faith.
Pastor Nadarkhani’s case is another grim illustration of the volatile situation faced by religious minorities living under Iran’s Islamist clerics. Even though the state formally recognizes the existence of Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians, these minorities are under no illusions about their subordinate status.
Since 2009, when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stole Iran’s election to claim a further term as the country’s president, the crime of „moharebeh“ — waging war against God — has frequently been invoked against those who question the Islamic legal codes which underpin the state.

    3. UPIIran: Executions point to ‚killing spree‘
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Sept. 27 (UPI) — A sharp rise in the number of executions reported in Iran is raising suspicions that the Tehran regime has, in the words of a British newspaper, engaged in „a judicial killing spree“ to intimidate its opponents.
Human rights organizations say this underlines the alarm within the regime that Iran could be infected by the wave of pro-democracy uprisings that have swept the Arab world since January and toppled three dictators.
The Tehran regime has cracked down hard on political dissidents since a major confrontation with protesters during the hotly disputed 2009 presidential election when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a second four-year term.
