EU to send virus-hit Iran $21.5 million in humanitarian aid: report – EU foreign policy chief cited as planning to support Iran’s bid for emergency IMF aid | i24NEWS
The European Union (EU) has announced plans to send $21.5 million in humanitarian aid to the coronavirus-stricken Iran, France24 reported Monday, citing EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell.
The aid will be rolled over the coming weeks, Borrell is quoted as saying at a video conference.
He added that the EU would support Iran’s bid for emergency IMF assistance, for which it applied earlier, seeking some $5 billion to help it deal with the outbreak. The virus has infected more than 23,000 in the country and killed 1,812 Iranians.
