Yitzhak Ilan, former Deputy Director of Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), died of coronavirus at the age of 64, the agency said on Friday.
Ilan, who reportedly had a lung transplant in 2019, will be buried in Ashdod in Israel’s south.
An immigrant from Georgia, Ilan joined the Shin Bet in 1982, first working to help the agency take on Soviet spies in the Jewish state.
Throughout his three decades of service with Shin Bet, he held various positions, including the post of the West Bank division chief during the Second Intifada.
