On March 3rd 2019 the famous Aalst Carnival included a float in its procession which caricatured Jewish people by representing them as grotesque figures standing on bags of money, surrounded by safes festooned with rats.
There can be no doubt that this imagery is antisemitic.
It is not the first time that the event has hosted antisemitic images. In 2013 a group created a mock cattle truck used for Nazi deportation, accompanied by their members dressed in SS uniform drinking champagne in front of a poster depicting smiling German soldiers carrying canisters of Zyklon B….
