  2. WSJ The Tehran-Berlin Axis  MATTHIAS KÜNTZEL  – FROM TODAY’S WALL STREET JOURNAL EUROPE
May 15, 2008  – Flipping last week through the online itinerary of the German Near and Middle East Association (honorary chairman: Gerhard Schröder), I found the following entry: „April 16, 2008, Meeting with the Iranian Vice Foreign Minister S.E. Mehdi Safari in Berlin.“ I couldn’t find anything in the German press about this visit. I turned to Iranian media. It reported that Mr. Safari was in Berlin for three days at the invitation of the German government. He met with officials at the foreign, interior and economics ministries, as well as with lawmakers and businessmen.

    1. IRNA President: No use to celebrate birth anniversary for a dead  Iran-President-Press Conference
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday denounced the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the fabricated Zionist regime.
Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters, the president aid celebrating birth anniversary for a dead will not have any effect on it nor will the presence of those who intend to attend the ceremony be of any help in giving a life to the dead body.
Those who are to gather in the occupied land in Palestine and attend the ceremony marking the establishment of the illegal regime assume that their action would help bolster the declining regime, said the president.

  5. Fars News Agency Swiss FM Defends Iran Visit
She told a conference in Lucerne on Wednesday that the agreement ensured a long-term Swiss presence in an important region.
The gas deal which was signed in Calmy-Rey’s presence between the National Iranian Gas Export Company and the Swiss EGL power company, brought furious responses from several quarters – most notably Israel, Zionist organizations and Tel Aviv’s natural ally, the United States.
The US said it sent „the wrong message“ to Iran, while Israel called her visit an „unfriendly“ act.
Calmy-Rey said in her speech that the short-term annoyance of Switzerland’s partners had to be taken into account, but that the foreign ministry network had an important role to play in supporting Swiss economic interests abroad.

Washington, DC – May 15, 2008 – We strongly condemn the May 14 arrest of six leaders of the Iranian Baha’i community– Mrs. Fariba Kamalabadi, Mr. Jamaloddin Khanjani, Mr. Afif Naeimi, Mr. Saeid Rezaie, Mr. Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Mr. Vahid Tizfahm–by Iranian authorities and the continued imprisonment of a seventh leader, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet. We urge the authorities to release all Baha’is currently in detention and cease their ongoing harassment of the Iranian Baha’i community.

    2. bahai.org Six Bahá’í leaders arrested in Iran; pattern matches deadly sweeps of early 1980s
      15 May 2008
NEW YORK — Six Bahá’í leaders in Iran were arrested and taken to the notorious Evin prison yesterday in a sweep that is ominously similar to episodes in the 1980s when scores of Iranian Bahá’í leaders were summarily rounded up and killed.
The six men and women, all members of the national-level group that helped see to the minimum needs of Bahá’ís in Iran, were in their homes Wednesday morning when government intelligence agents entered and spent up to five hours searching each home, before taking them away.
The seventh member of the national coordinating group was arrested in early March in Mashhad after being summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence office there on an ostensibly trivial matter.

  12. Forward Making Iran Into a Jewish Issue Is Fueling an Unhealthy Debate – Eric Frey
Thu. May 15, 2008 – When shareholders of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV met in Vienna May 14 for their annual meeting, they were met by a small group of noisy protesters from Stop the Bomb, a mostly Jewish alliance opposed to OMV’s business dealings with Iran. Just 10 days earlier, the alliance held a conference in the Austrian capital where it warned that Iran was seeking an atomic bomb to launch a second Holocaust against the Jewish people — and that companies like OMV were helping Tehran in its quest.

  13. Fars News Agency Iran Summons UK Envoy over Terrorist Group Ruling

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Britain’s ambassador on Monday in protest at a decision by three British judges to uphold a ruling that the government was wrong to ban an armed opposition group to the Islamic Republic as a terrorist organization.
The Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) won a seven-year legal battle last Wednesday when three senior judges at Britain’s Court of Appeal dismissed a government challenge to the earlier ruling.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari summoned British Ambassador Geoffrey Adams to voice the Iranian government’s „strong protest“.
Safari said the decision showed „double standards“ towards the issue of terrorism and was not „suitable of a European government claiming to confront terrorism“.

  15. theaustralian.news.com  Iran rant ‚a danger – Dennis Shanahan
KEVIN Rudd has accused Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of playing with „dangerous stuff“ in the Middle East by suggesting Israel should be wiped off the map.
The Prime Minister said Mr Ahmadinejad’s comments were more than hyperbole from „the bully pulpit of Tehran“ and could have an effect across the Middle East.
Mr Rudd said the Australian Government was seeking legal advice on whether it could take Mr Ahmadinejad to the International Court of Justice for inciting genocide.
„It is not just, you know, hyperbole, from the bully pulpit of Tehran. It is the roll-on effect across the Islamic world to those who listen to Iran for their guidance. I think this is dangerous stuff.

In an interview with Rooz, ‎while reaffirming her anti-war stance, Ebadi warns against the increasing danger of a U.S. ‎military strike against Iran. ‎
