  1. Reuters  Israel accuses Iran of worst anti-Semitism at UN
UNITED NATIONS, Sept 23 (Reuters) – The president of Iran’s speech to the United Nations attacking „Zionist murderers“ was reminiscent of one the most notorious anti-Semitic tracts in history, Israel’s president said on Tuesday.
In an address that opened with a long discourse on God, justice and morality, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the 192-nation U.N. General Assembly that a few „deceitful“ Zionists were manipulating Americans and Europeans and controlled the world’s financial and monetary systems.
„This is the first time in the history of the United Nations that the head of a state is appearing openly and publicly with the ugly and dark accusations of the ‚Protocols of the Elders of Zion,'“ Israeli President Shimon Peres said after Ahmadinejad’s speech.
He was referring to an anti-Semitic tract published in the early 1900s that described a Jewish and Masonic plot to take over the world. The document has been discredited and is widely considered to be a hoax and a fraud.

    1. Anti-Defamation League (press release) – Ahmadinejad’s Speech To The UN Puts His Anti-Semitism On Full Display
New York, NY, September 23, 2008 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said today’s speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the United Nations General Assembly „put his anti-Semitism on full display“ and shows the true threat that the Iranian regime poses to the West.
In his speech, which concluded with a smattering of applause from U.N. delegates, Ahmadinejad accused „a small but deceitful number of people called Zionists“ for dominating financial and political centers in Europe and the U.S. in „a deceitful, complex and furtive manner.“
Mr. Ahmadinejad also used the platform afforded him at the U.N. to accuse Jews of playing an „underhanded“ role in the crisis in Georgia, and to reiterate his call for the demise of the „Zionist regime“ and the establishment of a Palestinian state in all of Israel.
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has once again shown to the world the true threat the Iranian regime poses to Israel, the United States and the West.

It is clear that Ahmadinejad is deeply infected with anti-Semitism.  His statements accusing Jews of dominating and controlling finance and government in the United States and Europe, and of working as a cabal to foment conflict around the world, echo the most infamous passages of the „
Protocols of the Elders of Zion.“  These ideas are classic anti-Semitism by any measure, and President Ahmadinejad has put it on full display for the entire world to see.
While presenting the Islamic Republic of Iran as a beacon of moderation and justice and exhorting nations to aspire to higher values of justice and love, the Iranian regime rejects these very values in word and in deed.   Iran’s appalling record on human rights, its unrelenting pursuit of nuclear weapons, and its repeated calls for the downfall of the United States negates those values and promotes a culture of hate, not of love.  With its oft-repeated calls for „death“ to America and Israel, the Iranian regime promotes a culture of hatred for the West and a worldview that is hostile to all freedom-loving nations.

Nuclear weapons in the hands of this increasingly irrational and extremist regime would pose an unambiguous threat to the world.   It is clear from Mr. Ahmadinejad’s remarks that the Iranian regime has no intention to cooperate on any level with nuclear weapons inspectors, and will continue to do anything to promote its zealous pursuit of nuclear weapons and support for extremist ideology and groups.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

    1. YNET ‚Ahmadinejad a war criminal
WASHINGTON – As the UN General Assembly welcomes Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in New York, a petition fighting to bring him to justice for incitement and genocide is being prepared in Washington.
The petition was reared by the head of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Dore Gold.
Gold met with a coalition of legal experts, anti-genocide activists, governmental officials, and diplomats in Washington Tuesday in order to commence a public attempt at converting Ahmedinejad’s image from that of a legitimate leader to that of a war criminal.

UNITED NATIONS: Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel urged the United Nations on Monday to indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for inciting genocide rather than allow him to speak at the U.N. General Assembly.
Wiesel spoke to thousands of people at a rally to urge world leaders to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons — something Tehran denies it is trying to do, but which Western powers suspect is the true aim of its nuclear program.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner said Ahmadinejad, who has said Israel should be wiped off the map, should be indicted for „propagating genocidal policies.“

    10. JTA – Ahmadinejad: Israel’s demise benefits all
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel’s demise would benefit everyone, especially the United States.
„The regime resembles an airplane that has lost its engine and is kind of going down. And no one can help it,“ the Iranian president said in an interview published Tuesday in the Los Angeles Times. „This will benefit everyone,“ Ahmadinejad said.
Ahmadinejad is in New York for the opening of the U.N. General Assembly. He will speak there Tuesday.
Ahmadinejad told the Times that Israel has „actually displaced over 5 million people from their own lands and collected other people elsewhere from the world and has put them in their place. How is it possible to recognize a state that has come about as such?“
While not backtracking on his previous statements denying the Holocaust, Ahmadinejad said that the Palestinians are paying for the Jews‘ victimization.
„If we agree and accept that certain events had occurred during World War II, well, where did they indeed happen? In Germany, in Poland and in Great Britain,“ he said. „Now what does this exactly have to do with Palestine? Why is it that the Palestinian people should pay for it?“
Ahmadinejad said he believed that Iran and the United Nations‘ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, had resolved all the issues between them last year. There is an impasse now, he said, because the United States provided forged documents to the agency providing misinformation about certain operations.
„Of course, we don’t expect any better from the U.S. administration because they have declared that they are our enemy and we are theirs,“ he said.

    Statement Summary
MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD, President of Iran, noted that the root of the world’s problems with peace and morality lay in one’s particular worldview as well as issues of freedom, obeisance to God and justice.
He then noted that the world was being deceived by hegemonic world and bullying Powers that attacked Iraq under the false pretext of uncovering weapons of mass destruction and overthrowing a dictator.  These Powers had insisted on imposing colonial agreements on Iraq by keeping them under Chapter VII of the Charter.  While this was going on, he said that Palestine had suffered 60 years of carnage and invasion by Zionists, even as United Nations resolutions that have addressed the plight of the Palestinian people had been relegated to the archives, unnoticed.

  8. SWC DENOUNCE AMHAMDINEJADS‘ ANTI-SEMITIC TIRADE AND BAR TEHRAN FROM THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL
Yesterday, the President of Iran delivered a dangerous anti-Semitic tirade before the member states of the United Nations. The hate-filled, anti-Semitism invoked the very same propaganda used by Hitler and Goebbels to justify the genocide of the Jewish people. Speak out against this dangerous rhetoric.
Here are some of his quotes:
„The dignity, decency and rights of the American and European nations are being manipulated by a small but cunning group of people called Zionists… who control the important centers of the economy and the decision-making… It is troubling to see that a number of leading presidents and [presidential] candidates from large countries are visiting these people, participating in their conventions… and are committed to their interests… These facts indicate that the American people and the European states are forced to give in to the demands and whims of a small group of materialistic and invasive people… and to waste their resources and dignity on the crimes of the occupiers and the threats of the Zionist network against their will.“
Following his speech, Ahmadinejad basked in the applause of heads of state, diplomats and dignitaries. Now, Iran is seeking a seat on the UN Security Council.
The Wiesenthal Center will not sit quietly. In protest we are hand-delivering letters to Secretary General Ban and the five permanent members of the Security Council tomorrow.
Join the Simon Wiesenthal Center in its online petition urging UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to:

Publicly denounce the hate-filled, anti-Semitic speech
    2. Urge the US, France, Russia, China and the UK to bar Iran from becoming a non-permanent member in the UN Security Council
Last January, UN Secretary General Ban declared, „There were promises that never again would anti-Semitism go unchallenged… We must apply the lessons of the Holocaust to today’s world. We must go beyond remembrance. Then we can avoid re-occurrence … it is not enough to remember, honor and grieve for the dead … we vow to apply the lessons of the Holocaust to our lives and to those of succeeding generations.“
Now is the time for the UN Secretary General to act by publicly denouncing Ahmadinejad’s Jew hatred and by urging the US, France, Russia, China and the UK to bar Tehran from membership in the UN Security Council.

    Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, AP
Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visits the United Nations in New York this week. Don’t expect an honest update from him on his country’s nuclear program. Iran is now edging closer to being armed with nuclear weapons, and it continues to develop a ballistic-missile capability.
Such developments may be overshadowed by our presidential election, but the challenge Iran poses is very real and not a partisan matter. We may have different political allegiances and worldviews, yet we share a common concern — Iran’s drive to be a nuclear state. We believe that Iran’s desire for nuclear weapons is one of the most urgent issues facing America today, because even the most conservative estimates tell us that they could have nuclear weapons soon.

BRUSSELS, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) — The European Union expressed on Thursday regret that Iran is refusing to suspend nuclear activities.
The EU „regrets that Iran is refusing to suspend its sensitive nuclear activities,“ and „is not providing the IAEA with the cooperation which the IAEA has requested in order to answer the outstanding questions listed in its reports,“ the EU’s French presidency said in a statement.
The statement came after the International Atomic and Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report on Sept. 15 on Iran’s nuclear issue.

    1. JTA– Clinton, Palin rip Iran
U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin both harshly criticized Iran.
Clinton (D-N.Y.), who was scheduled to speak at Monday’s anti-Iran rally in New York before pulling out when Palin was invited, told an Israel Bonds dinner in New York on Sept. 18 that „U.S. policy must be clear and unequivocal. We cannot, we should not, we must not permit Iran to build or acquire nuclear weapons. And in dealing with this threat, as I have said repeatedly, we cannot take any option off the table.“
She added that as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad „travels to New York to meet at the United Nations, and once again to use the General Assembly as a launching pad for his attacks on Israel and the United States, we must raise our voices together in opposition to the message he carries and the threat Iran poses.“
Palin, the governor of Alaska, said Ahmadinejad „must be stopped“ in the speech she would have given at the rally — it was printed Monday in the New York Sun. Palin, the running mate for Republican presidential nominee John McCain, was disinvited from the rally on Sept. 18 after organizers decided not to have any elected officials present.
„Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust,“ she wrote. „And this is not a wish, a request or a plea to Israel’s enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor against any enemy who cares to test us. It is John McCain’s promise and it is my promise.“

  20. NYSUN Palin on Ahmadinejad: ‚He Must Be Stopped – SARAH PALIN
Governor Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, was scheduled to speak today at a rally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza to protest the appearance here of
President Ahmadinejad of Iran. Her appearance was canceled by rally organizers who sought a nonpolitical event. Following are the remarks Mrs. Palin would have given:
I am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country — leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice of outrage.
Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York — to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan — and speak freely in this, a country whose demise he has called for.

  21. AP – Hackers shut down Iranian clerics‘ Web sites
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian media reports say hackers have shut down the Web sites of several hundred Shiite clerics and seminary schools.
Iran’s state TV says the hackers were Sunni Muslims based outside Shiite Iran, suggesting a sectarian motive, though it did not say how it knew that.
The semiofficial Fars news agency said the hackers were based in the United Arab Emirates and blocked access to 300 sites. The Emirates is home to a large Iranian community, some of whom oppose Iran’s clerical rule.

  23. state.govIran: International Religious Freedom Report 2008
Released by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor
The Constitution of Iran states that Islam is the official state religion, and the doctrine followed is that of Ja’afari (Twelver) Shi’ism. The Constitution provides that „other Islamic denominations are to be accorded full respect,“ while the country’s pre-Islamic religious groups–Zoroastrians, Christians, and Jews–are recognized as „protected“ religious minorities. However, Article 4 of the Constitution states that all laws and regulations must be based on Islamic criteria. In practice, the Government severely restricted freedom of religion.
During the reporting period, respect for religious freedom in the country continued to deteriorate. Government rhetoric and actions created a threatening atmosphere for nearly all non-Shi’a religious groups, most notably for Baha’is, as well as Sufi Muslims, evangelical Christians, and members of the Jewish community. Reports of Government imprisonment, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination based on religious beliefs continued during the reporting period. Baha’i religious groups reported arbitrary arrests, expulsions from universities, and confiscation of property. Government-controlled broadcast and print media intensified negative campaigns against religious minorities, particularly the Baha’is, during the reporting period.

  25. Jewish World Review Dear President Ahmadinejad – Michael Ledeen
    To: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President
    Islamic Republic of Iran
    Tehran
    Dear Mr. President,
I’m writing to you about death, one of your favorite themes. Your adult life has revolved around it. You’re from the Revolutionary Guards, the military organization that was created in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon in the 1970s. The then-incipient Revolutionary Guards were trained there by the expert terrorists of al Fatah, Yasser Arafat’s gang of killers (Sunnis, by the way, as you well know). One day, the camp was bombed by the Israelis, and a considerable number of your men were killed. Later on, the graduates entered Iran, and killed members of the shah’s security forces. Today, Revolutionary Guardsmen crush Iranian dissent at home, and they are on the prowl all over the world, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Buenos Aires, Argentina. So you’ve been around death for 30 years or more. Training for it, training others for it, and participating in it.
