  1. Wiener Zeitung – Gemäßigter Islamismus? – Gastkommentar von Stephan Grigat
    Zum Nachweis des Weltherrschaftsanspruchs des djihadistischen Islams und der iranischen Ajatollahs bedarf es keiner interpretatorischen Finesse. Ein Blick in Khomeinis Schriften genügt. Da heißt es etwa: „Der Islam macht es allen erwachsenen Männern zur Pflicht, sich für die Eroberung bereit zu machen, auf dass dem Wort des Islam in jedem Lande Folge geleistet werde.“ Am Jahrestag der „Islamischen Revolution“ führte er schon 1980 aus: „Wir werden unsere Revolution in die ganze Welt hinaustragen. Der Kampf wird solange anhalten, bis der Ruf ‚Es gibt keinen Gott außer Allah!‘ und ‚Mohammad ist der Prophet Gottes!‘ in der ganzen Welt erschallt.“
    Eines der Argumente zur Beschwichtigung und Entwarnung hinsichtlich einer djihadistischen Bedrohung besagt, dass Islamisten sich in dem Augenblick zur Mäßigung genötigt sehen, in dem sie mit den Sachzwängen des Regierens konfrontiert würden. Beispielsweise möge die Parole der vom Iran gestützten palästinensischen Hamas, „Islam ist die Lösung“, für Wahlkämpfe taugen, helfe aber wenig bei der realen Politik.
    Allerdings ist diese Einschätzung nicht nur unrealistisch, sondern angesichts der Realität im Iran, wo Verfechter einer reinen islamischen Lehre seit knapp 30 Jahren das Sagen haben, geradezu absurd. Auch am Anfang dieser islamischen Diktatur stand die Hoffnung, allein der Bezug auf die Religion könne keine dauerhafte Herrschaftssicherung gewährleisten. Shahpur Bakhtiar, der letzte Regierungschef des Schah, erklärte 1979 im Pariser Exil Ajatollah Khomeini zum „politischen Dummkopf“, denn ein Land lasse sich nicht mit dem Ruf „Islam, Islam, Islam“ regieren. Zwölf Jahre später massakrierte ihn ein Mordkommando der Islamischen Republik Iran in Paris.
    Auch die Taliban in Afghanistan haben keine Sekunde daran gedacht, ihre Ziele zu relativieren oder ihre Praxis zu mäßigen, als sie an die Macht kamen. An der israelischen Nord- und Südgrenze regieren und administrieren Hamas und Hisbollah sowohl auf regionaler als auch auf nationaler Ebene. Und sie haben kein Problem, den pragmatischen Anforderungen des Verwaltens gerecht zu werden, gleichzeitig aber an ihrer wahnhaften Programmatik festzuhalten.
    Diese Gleichzeitigkeit von Pragmatismus und Vernichtungswahn charakterisiert auch das iranische Regime – und ermöglicht europäischen Kommentatoren, letzteren durch den Verweis auf ersteren schönzureden. Und so nimmt Europa kaum zur Kenntnis, dass Israels Konfrontation mit dem Iran ein existentieller Konflikt und kaum durch Interessenabwägung vermittelbar ist.
    Israels Vernichtung wäre für die sich selbst als islamische Revolutionäre sehenden Kombattanten nur der Auftakt, die ganze Welt zu jener Hölle zu machen, die die djihadistisch befreiten Zonen schon heute sind.

    Folgt man der Islamwissenschaftlerin Katajun Amirpur, dann ist sowohl die Situation im Iran als auch die Gefahr, die außenpolitisch von ihm ausgeht, eigentlich bloß halb so wild. Schon vor knapp vier Jahren vermeldete sie in der Süddeutschen Zeitung nachgerade elementare Menschenrechtsfortschritte im Land der Mullahs: Zum einen würden dort des vorehelichen Geschlechtsverkehrs bezichtigte sechzehnjährige Mädchen nun nicht mehr gesteinigt, sondern nur noch erhängt – was nicht näher bezeichnete „iranische Menschenrechtler“ laut Amirpur (Foto) für „einen Schritt in die richtige Richtung“ hielten, weil sich darin eine „Abkehr vom angeblich unflexiblen Korsett des islamischen Rechts“ zeige. Zum anderen sei „das offizielle Heiratsalter nach zähem Ringen zwischen Reformern und Konservativen von neun auf zehn Jahre erhöht worden“. Ein glanzvoller Sieg der Humanität also, schwer und womöglich verlustreich erkämpft von den besagten „Reformern“, die im Westen bekanntlich so sehr geschätzt werden. Und in der Tat könnte doch alles viel schlimmer sein – die Mullahs hätten schließlich auch das Teeren und Federn für vor- und außereheliche Liebesakte befehligen und die Kurzen schon im Kindergartenalter unter die Haube bringen können.

    Azerbaijan halted a Russian shipment of equipment intended for Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, demanding more information for fear of violating United Nations sanctions, officials said Monday.
    The Russian state-run company Atomstroiexport said one or two trucks carrying the equipment were stopped two weeks ago at the town of Astara, on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.
    Agency spokeswoman Irina Yesipova said officials were holding talks with both Azerbaijan and Iran. There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials.
    Iran is paying Russia more than $1 billion to build the light-water reactor. Construction has been held up in recent months by disputes between Tehran and Moscow over payments and a schedule for shipping nuclear fuel.
    Russia delivered the final shipment of uranium fuel in January, and Tehran has said it was hoping the plant would begin operations by summer.
    The United States initially opposed Russia’s building Bushehr, but later softened its position after Iran agreed to return spent nuclear fuel to Russia to ensure it does not extract plutonium from it that could be used to make atomic bombs.

    The scheduled visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad to Sri Lanka on 28th April at the invitation of the Sri Lankan President has now put to rest much of the speculation about recent Iranian commitment made during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official visit to Teheran at the end of last year, to assist Sri Lanka in two important development programmes, to which the government has accorded priority, namely, the Uma Oya multi-purpose project and the expansion of the capacity of the Sapugaskanda oil refinery. That the main purpose of the visit is to inaugurate the Uma Oya project underscores on one hand that the Iranian commitment this time is not confined to words but, as he remarked during the Sri Lankan President’s visit, he wants to see that MOUs signed become reality. On the other hand, it underscores that the visit is a demonstration of friendship and mutual respect that the Iranian people have for Sri Lanka over a long period of time. That should lay to rest any misgivings one may harbor against the visit.

    The Simon Wiesenthal Center urged the Swiss government to cancel its $18 billion gas deal with Iran.
    „This ill-conceived and ill-timed deal, signed in the presence of the Swiss Foreign Minister, bolsters the Iranian regime and weakens the International Community’s efforts to use economic sanctions to force Iran to stop its nuclearization program,“ said a statement by Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the L.A.-based Wiesenthal Center and Leo Adler, of the Canadian-based Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center.
    The two released the statement following their meeting Thursday with Swiss State Secretary Michael Ambuhl in Bern, the Swedish capital.
    „Further, press reports indicate that the bulk of the Iranian gas is destined for Italy and not, as was asserted, a way for Switzerland to lessen its reliance on Russian gas. So the question remains as to whose strategic and national interests are being served,“ the statement says,
    During their meeting with Ambuhl, Cooper and Adler also urged Switzerland to oppose the anti-Israel resolutions frequently approved by the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva.
    „Since the Council’s inception, it has passed 20 resolutions — 19 against Israel and one on Burma — but nothing on the genocide in Darfur or the current crisis in Tibet,“ the two Jews noted.

    TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran said on Monday that it does not back any of the US presidential candidates but does hope the election will bring a change in Washington’s foreign policy.
    „Iran would not support any candidates in the US presidential campaign,“ Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini said during his weekly news briefing.
    „But the nations of the world are fed up with America’s warmongering policies and we demand these change.“
    Earlier in March, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the Spanish El Pais newspaper that the real circles of power in America would not allow Senator Barack Obama to enter the White House, adding that he would have no problems if the junior senator from Illinois were to be elected.
    Both Democratic Party candidates have called for direct talks with Iran over its differences with the US including its nuclear program which Washington alleges is for military purposes, while Tehran vehemently denies the charge, saying the program is for peaceful purposes such as generating electricity.
    While the countries have held ambassador-level talks in Baghdad over security in Iraq, there are no direct talks on bilateral issues.
    „Bilateral talks are not on the agenda. Americans have to take major steps to create an opportunity for such talks,“ said Hosseini.

    Unauffällig wie eine Fliege an der Wand die Realität zu beobachten ist der Traum vieler Dokumentarfilmer. Die Macht der Kamera, das Geschehen vor der Linse zu beeinflussen, kann aber auch ein Segen sein. Zum Beispiel wenn sie dazu beiträgt, dass ein Polizist nicht einfach auf friedliche Demonstranten einprügelt oder ein Politiker zum Handeln genötigt wird. Diesen schützenden und Türen öffnenden Effekt der Kamera haben die Macher von „Football Under Cover“ von Beginn an geschickt genutzt.
    Die Idee zu ihrem Dokumentarfilm entstand 2005 auf dem Nachwuchsforum der Berlinale. Dort präsentierte die Deutsche Marlene Assmann zusammen mit ihrem Bruder David einen Kurzfilm über ihre multikulturelle Frauenfußballmannschaft aus Kreuzberg; der Iraner Ayat Najafi zeigte seinen Vierminüter „Move It“ über ein fußballverrücktes Mädchen aus Teheran. Als Najafi erzählte, dass der Iran auch eine Frauenfußballnationalmannschaft hat, die allerdings noch kein Spiel absolvieren durfte, war schnell die Idee geboren, beide Mannschaften gegeneinander antreten zu lassen und darüber einen Film zu machen.

    Die iranische Journalistin und Frauenrechtlerin Nasrin Afzali ist zu einer Freiheitstrafe von sechs Monaten sowie zehn Peitschenhieben auf Bewährung verurteilt worden. Afzali sei wegen ihrer Teilnahme an einer Versammlung vor einem Revolutionstribunal im März 2007 der Störung der öffentlichen Ordnung für schuldig befunden worden, sagte ihr Anwalt Mohammad Mostaphaie der Tageszeitung „Etemad Melli“ („Nationale Einheit“).
    Afzali war im vergangenen Jahr bei der Versammlung mit 32 weiteren Frauen festgenommen worden. Mit ihrer Anwesenheit wollten die Frauen ihre Solidarität für fünf Aktivistinnen bekunden, die wegen einer Demonstration für Gleichberechtigung vor dem Tribunal angeklagt waren.
    Die Führung in Teheran hat den Druck auf Frauenrechtlerinnen in den vergangenen Monaten erhöht. Mehrere wurden festgenommen, einige sind noch immer in Haft. Auch die führende Frauenrechtlerin Marsieh Mortasi Langrudi wurde im Februar auf Bewährung zu zehn Peitschenhieben und sechs Monaten Gefängnis verurteilt.

    The armed forces would cut off hands of any aggressors and strongly respond to any aggression, Army’s Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi said on Monday.
    Addressing a graduation ceremony for army cadets, the commander said Iran’s Army relying on its mostly home-made, modern and conventional weapons, is in complete preparation to respond to any threat.
    Major General Salehi added that parade of different units of Iran’s Army on April 17 (the country’s National Army Day), was not only a show of power by the army but a demonstration of military and combat power on the ground, at sea and in the air.
    Exemplary air, ground and sea units of Iran’s Army staged a parade last Thursday in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during a ceremony to mark the Army’s National Day.
    The parading units demonstrated army’s combat readiness as well as the latest equipment manufactured and possessed by its talented experts.
    Some 200 jet fighters and other aircraft of the army also conducted military exercise and fly-by over the parade ground, southern Tehran.

God is your supporter…“
    He also urged Iran’s Iraqi neighbors not to forget their immediate enemies „who have occupied their soil,“ saying, „They have burned the nation and land of Iraq“ and reminding them that „neither Shia, nor Sunni, Kurd, nor any other group is the enemy of the Iraqi people – only the occupiers.“
    Jannati attributed the April 12 blast in Shiraz to „neglect and carelessness,“ saying it was „not our enemies‘ work, nor the result of a bombing there.“ He added, „We pray to God for the salvation of the martyrs of [this incident along] with the souls of the great martyrs of Islam.“
    He also reminded worshipers of next Friday’s runoff Majlis elections, saying, „Do not feel contented with having attended the polls once and having cast your votes. Attend the polls as enthusiastically and with the same amount of commitment, feeling sure that each vote you will cast would be a bullet aimed at the heart of the enemy, annoying and displeasing them.“

    The Iranian cultural heritage website chn.ir reported that in the framework of Tehran urban development, the Tehran municipality razed seven ancient synagogues in the Jewish neighborhood of Oudlajan in the south of the city – even though the sites had been nominated as national Iranian historic sites.

    An Iranian court has handed down prison sentences ranging from 22 to 30 months to students from Amir Kabir University students, who have been detained for about a year, for desecrating the sanctity of Islam.
    The students said that the real reason for their sentence is their participation in the students‘ demonstration during a visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the university, and their burning of his picture.
    The families of the students stated that their confessions were extracted from them under pressure and torture.

    An article on the Iranian website Shahab News discussed why the Olympic torch had not been brought through Iran on its way to China, even though China calls Iran „its strategic friend.“
    The article rejected the possibility that this was done for security reasons, since the torch was passing through Pakistan; it rejected Iran’s human rights violations as a reason, since the Olympics were being held in Beijing, which had its own human rights violation issues. Thus, it concluded, the International Olympics Committee, as one of its members noted, feared that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would use the torch’s journey through his country for propaganda purposes.

  33. MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Hossein Mousavian Hospitalized following Heart Attack
    On April 17, 2008, Hossein Mousavian, a former member of the Iranian nuclear negotiations team, was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack. Mousavian, an associate of Ahmadinejad’s chief political rival, Rafsanjani, was convicted earlier this month of harming state security. He was given a two-year suspended prison sentence and a five-year ban from government posts. His doctors assessed that the heart attack was caused by the pressures to which he has been subjected.
