Die Geburtstagsfeiern von Israel wurden von den Gefahren überschattet, die von einer Atommacht Iran ausgehen. Trotz hoher Risiken könnte man es schon sehr bald auf eine Konfrontation ankommen lassen.
Über dem Nahen Osten hängt die Gefahr einer weiteren großen militärischen Konfrontation wie eine drohende Wolke. Warum? Weil eine verfehlte amerikanische Politik im Irak die Feinde der USA und ihrer Verbündeten in der Region gestärkt und nicht geschwächt hat. Vor allem der Iran – immerhin ein Mitglied der Achse des Bösen! – wurde durch die amerikanische Politik in eine hegemoniale Rolle gehievt, die er aus eigener Kraft wohl kaum und vor allem nicht in so kurzer Zeit hätte erreichen können.

Der iranische Präsident Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad wird nächste Woche vom Papst empfangen. Der islamische Hardliner, der in Rom an der UNO-Ernährungskonferenz teilnimmt, hatte den Vatikan mit der Bitte um eine Audienz in Verlegenheit gebracht. Premier Silvio Berlusconi und Außenminister Franco Frattini wollen den unbequemen Gast bei seinem ersten Besuch in einer EU-Hauptstadt nicht treffen. Nach Indiskretionen italienischer Medien habe jedoch Benedikt XVI. einer Begegnung mit dem iranischen Präsidenten zugestimmt.
Es soll sich um keine offizielle Audienz mit Gefolge, Hymnen und Grußadressen handeln, so die Zeitung La Repubblica. Laut dem Corriere della Sera ist noch offen, ob der Papst einige der am UNO-Gipfel anwesenden Staatsoberhäupter gemeinsam oder in Privataudienz empfange.

  Der ehemalige Atom-Chefunterhändler Ali Laridschani ist vom neuen iranischen Parlament zum Parlamentspräsidenten gewählt worden. Er bekam 232 von 263 Stimmen, wie die Nachrichtenagentur Isna berichtete.

  Mit Blick auf den jüngsten Lagebericht der Internationalen Atomenergiebehörde (IAEA) sagte Laridschani nach seiner Wahl im Parlament, die Behörde habe sich „doppeldeutig“ geäussert und betreibe ein „abgekartetes Spiel“. Der neue Sprecher des iranischen Parlaments, Ali Larijani (Bild), hat heute gewarnt, dass Teheran seine Zusammenarbeit mit der IAEA nach deren jüngstem kritischem Bericht weiter einschränken könnte.
Larijani, der ehemals der führende Atomunterhändler seines Landes war, ist heute mit überwältigender Mehrheit zum Parlamentssprecher gewählt worden. Gleich darauf bezeichnete er den IAEA-Bericht als beklagenswert.
„Wir empfehlen ihnen, das iranische Nukleardossier nicht heimlich zwischen der IAEA und der 5-plus-1-Gruppe hin und her zu reichen. Dieses Parlament wird solche Betrügerei nicht erlauben“, sagte Larijani in der vom staatlichen Radio übertragenen Parlamentssitzung.

MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – In Friday Sermon, Rafsanjani Advises U.S. To „Hold Negotiations Without Preconditions“

In his Friday sermon today, interim Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani warned that „the hegemonic powers“ and the International Atomic Energy Agency had laid a new trap against Iran, and said that the U.S. should hold negotiations without preconditions.
Rafsanjani, who is also Expediency Council chairman and former Iranian president, told worshippers that the IAEA had failed to adopt „an appropriate policy“ despite Iran’s cooperation, saying, „The agency has been swayed by the claims of America and the whole West.“ He added, „It is obvious that [the U.S. and the IAEA]… want to proceed in a way to be able to get more excuses. They did the same in the past and caused trouble for us and for themselves. If the agency continues in this way, it will lose its credibility among its members.“
He advised the U.S. and other Western countries to quit seeking excuses against Iran and to hold negotiations without any preconditions and threats, and stressed, „Our only fault is trespassing the forbidden zone of the hegemonic powers and achieving peaceful nuclear technology.“
In other matters, Rafsanjani urged the Lebanese to be committed to the agreement recently reached, and not to turn it into conflict and another opportunity for the enemy, especially Israel. He also said that the main cause of all Iraq’s problems is the presence of the occupiers.

Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar has announced plans to unveil 30 new military hardware projects developed by Iranian experts in the upcoming year. He said that in the next few months, the Defense Ministry would unveil projects to mass produce electronic warfare, aerospace, naval, and ground equipment.He added that 70 other new projects had been displayed at a military exhibition in the southwestern city of Shiraz. In response to embargoes imposed on Iran over its nuclear program, the country has launched a campaign for self-sufficiency in its defense industry.
