    President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that Iran will never recognize Israel and is ready to hold talks with those urging an end to Israeli crimes, occupation, aggression, ideology and Zionism.
    „Whoever who is to talk with the Iranian nation should know that Iranians would never recognize the Zionist regime,“ the president said addressing a large crowd in the city of Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan province.
    He arrived in the province with his cabinet members on the second round of his provincial tours to follow up implementation of the projects that had been approved during the first round of his visit.
    Addressing „those who are to hold talk with Iran,“ the president stressed, „Iranian nation is neither in favor of suppression, nor in favor of hegemony and it would never give up its absolute rights.“ Commenting on the recent remarks made by one of the European leaders, the president said, „This respectful man who tries to mimic superpowers, speaks like Pharaoh when he stands behind the podium.

      MOSKAU, 19. Dezember (RIA Novosti). Russlands Wunsch, Drohnen von Israel zu kaufen, führte zu einem erbitterten Streit zwischen dem Außenministerium und dem Verteidigungsministerium in Tel Aviv. Darüber berichtet die Zeitung „Kommersant“ vom Freitag.
      Die Drohnen werden von zwei israelischen Konzernen hergestellt: Airspace Industries (IAI) und Elbit Systems. Doch die Frage, wer den Zuschlag bekommen würde, war von Anfang an klar. Die unbemannten Flugkörper Hermes-450 von Elbit wurden von der georgischen Armee während des Südossetien-Kriegs im August eingesetzt. Daher waren die Chancen Elbits, diesen Vertrag an Land zu ziehen, verschwindend gering.
      Doch Airspace Industries hat auch wenig Grund zur Freude. Der Marketing-Direktor des Unternehmens für Russland und GUS, Robert Fischer, wollte die Aussichten auf einen Deal mit Moskau erst gar nicht kommentieren. Zumal scheint es, dass sich die hohe Politik bereits in die Situation eingemischt habe.
    3. RIA Novosti – Raketenabwehrsysteme für Iran als Friedensargument 
      MOSKAU, 18. Dezember (Ilja Kramnik, RIA Novosti). Die möglichen Lieferungen von russischen S-300-Fla-Raketenkomplexen an Iran bereiten den USA und ihren Verbündeten seit langem Kopfschmerzen.
       In den vergangenen Jahren hatten verschiedene Medien zuweilen Meldungen über den unterzeichneten Vertrag über die Lieferungen der Fla-Raketenkomplexe oder sogar über ihre Verladung veröffentlicht. Diese Meldungen kamen in der Regel aus iranischen Quellen, denen in Russland jedoch immer widersprochen wurde.
      Doch am 17. Dezember berichtete RIA Novosti auf ihrer Webseite über die Lieferung der S-300-Systeme an Iran unter Berufung auf interne Quellen. Das heißt höchstwahrscheinlich, dass Russland die Lieferung zugibt. Somit kommt die Frage auf, wie sich das Kräftegleichgewicht in der Region verändern wird, wenn Iran diese Abwehrraketen tatsächlich bekommt.

      Russland hat 2008 Waffen für mehr als acht Milliarden US-Dollar (rund 5,81 Milliarden Euro) exportiert. „Wir gehören damit weltweit zu den drei führenden Rüstungslieferanten“, sagte Vize-Regierungschef Sergej Iwanow nach Angaben der Nachrichtenagentur Interfax in Moskau. Die Waffen wurden demnach in etwa 80 Länder exportiert, unter anderem nach Indien und China.
      Bereits 2007 hatte die Regierung in Moskau aus Rüstungsverkäufen einen Erlös von ungefähr 7,5 Milliarden US-Dollar erzielt. Damit habe Russland seine jährlichen Waffenausfuhren seit dem Jahr 2000 fast verdoppelt, sagte ein Regierungssprecher in Moskau.

    NEW YORK (UNO), 19. Dezember (RIA Novosti). Die Ankündigung des designierten US-Präsidenten Barack Obama über einen möglichen Dialog mit Iran lassen auf eine politische Regelung des Streits um dessen Atomprogramm hoffen.
    Das sagte der russische UN-Botschafter Vitali Tschurkin auf einer Pressekonferenz am Donnerstag.
    Ihm zufolge sprach Obama während seines Wahlkampfes von möglichen Direktverhandlungen mit Teheran, was der abtretende Präsident George W. Bush kategorisch ablehnte.
    Tschurkin verwies außerdem darauf, dass der UN-Sicherheitsrat auf Initiative Russlands und der USA im September eine Resolution zu Iran verabschiedet hatte, die dieses Land zur Zusammenarbeit mit der Internationalen Atomenergiebehörde (IAEO) und zur Aussetzung der Urananreicherung und des Atomprogramms aufruft.     NEU DELHI, 19. Dezember (RIA Novosti). Iran hofft, dass Russland seinen Einfluss in der internationalen Arena weiter festigen wird.
    Das erklärte der iranische Vizeaußenminister Mohammad Mehdi Akhundzadeh vor Journalisten in Neu Delhi.
    In seiner Stellungnahme zur russischen Außenpolitik nach dem Konflikt in Georgien brachte der iranische Diplomat die Hoffnung zum Ausdruck, dass die „russischen Freunde ihren Einfluss in der internationalen Arena wieder herstellen werden“.
    Die iranische Diplomatie, so Akhundzadeh, tritt für eine friedliche Lösung der internationalen Konflikte ein und Teheran selbst tritt gegen militärische Konflikte auf.
    „Unsere Ausgaben für die Verteidigung haben ein minimales Niveau, dienen nur zum Schutz und stellen für niemanden eine Gefahr dar“, sagte er.

In einer öffentlichen Stellungnahme an die Universitätsleitung und den Münchner Erzbischof Reinhard Marx kritisierte Nathan Kalmanowicz, Präsidiumsmitglied des Zentralrats, am Donnerstag eine «diskriminierende und einseitige» Darstellung der Debatte in einer Erklärung der Veranstalter.
    Auf der Internetseite der katholisch-theologischen Fakultät der Universität werfen vier Professoren den Kritikern der abgesetzten Veranstaltung vor, eine «objektive wissenschaftliche Diskussion» durch «politische Irritationen» riskiert zu haben. Mit der Absage respektierten sie aber «die vom Zentralrat der Juden geäußerten Bedenken», heißt es in der Stellungnahme. 
    Kalmanowicz wehrt sich gegen die Darstellung, dass nur von jüdischer Seite Kritik geäußert wurde. « Dass auf der offiziellen Homepage der Universität eine Absage nur aufgrund der jüdischen Bedenkenträger formuliert wurde und alle nicht-jüdischen Befragten absichtlich nicht erwähnt wurden, gibt Anlass zu allerschlimmsten Vermutungen», betonte Kalmanowicz. Er kritisierte auch die erklärte Absicht der vier Theologieprofessoren, den Dialog mit den umstrittenen iranischen Professoren fortsetzen zu wollen.
    Neben jüdischen Vertretern hatten vor allem auch Menschenrechtsgruppen den ursprünglich für vergangenen Mittwoch geplanten Vortragsabend zum «Gottesbild im Islam» kritisiert. Unter den eingeladenen iranischen Gelehrten war einer, der am Imam Khomeini Bildungs- und Forschungsinstitut in Qom tätig ist, das von Iranexperten als extremistisch eingestuft wird. Mitarbeiter des Instituts unterrichten zudem nach Angaben auf dessen eigener Internetseite Angehörige von Basijii-Einheiten der iranischen Armee, die unter Iranexperten als Selbstmordeinheit angesehen werden.   ddp/mbk/iha

    1160 französische Bürgermeister und die Ratsvorsitzenden von sieben französischen Distrikten haben die EU Präsidenten dazu aufgerufen, sofort den Beschluss des EU Gerichtes umzusetzen, das die Streichung der PMOI von der Terrorliste angeordnet hat. Die Erklärung wurde auf einer Pressekonferenz am Freitag in Paris vorgestellt. Auf ihr unterschrieben 1160 französischen Bürgermeister, die ihre Solidarität mit dem Iranischen Widerstand erklärten. In der Erklärung fordern die Bürgermeister die französische Regierung (aktuelle EU Ratspräsidentschaft) auf, den Beschluss des EU Gerichtes umzusetzen, das die Streichung der Volksmodjahedin (PMOI) von der Terrorliste der EU angeordnet hatte.

      Hintergrund: Wegen der Wirtschaftskrise wird deutlich weniger Öl verbraucht. Vor allem US-Amerikaner lassen immer häufiger das Auto stehen. Im Oktober verzeichnete das Verkehrsaufkommen in den USA den stärksten Rückgang seit 1971 (3,5%). In China ging die Ölnachfrage im November das erste Mal seit Jahren zurück. Resultat: Mit der Nachfrage sinkt auch der Ölpreis. Ein Barrel (159 Liter) US-Leichtöl kostete gestern 44,67 Dollar. Im Juli waren es noch 147 Dollar.

    Iran’s attacks and accusations against Egypt and Saudi Arabia have recently intensified. In early December, Iran’s leading conservative government dailies Kayhan and Jomhouri-ye Eslami accused the Egyptian and Saudi regimes of treason, and called on their peoples to topple their regimes. Kayhan editor Hossein Shariatmadari, who is close to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, praised Khaled Islambouli, the assassin of the late Egyptian president Anwar Al-Sadat, and called to follow his example. At the same time, student demonstrations were held in Tehran, during which protesters called for killing Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and threw firebombs at the Egyptian interest office.
    Also, on December 10, 2008, an Iranian group called „Brothers of Radhwan“ set fire to the offices of Saudi Arabian Airlines in Tehran, to protest against what the group called the rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and „the regime occupying Jerusalem.“

    In his sermon today at the Tehran University campus, Interim Tehran Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati hailed Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi’s recent shoe-tossing at the U.S. President George W. Bush, saying „“The Shoe Intifada in Iraq should not be overlooked easily. Well done to Iraqi journalist for throwing the shoes at the U.S. president.“
    He continued, „His shoes should be kept in Iraq’s political museum. The pair of shoes are more valuable than crowns, medals and signs.“
    He also suggested that shoes should be carried in all anti-U.S. demonstrations held in Iran and Iraq.
    He went on to say that „the shoe hurling by the Iraqi journalist had many messages which the world received them, and Iraqi people too held demonstrations afterwards. People should support the Iraqi journalist.“
    He added that the U.S. is trapped in an Iraqi quagmire and does not know what to do.
    On other matters, Jannati said that students should show more unity because that is what is required of them.

    Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that no power would dare threaten Iran, as it has now become the greatest power in the region.
    Addressing a meeting of local clerics during his tour of the southwestern Khuzestan province on December 17, he said, „Today the world has accepted Iran as a major power and that is why no other power is capable of threatening the Iranian nation.“
    He said that Iran’s enemies have been defeated in every battle against this nation, and that from now on they will gain nothing but failure.
    He stressed that the Iranian nation would stay united against the world bullying powers [i.e. the U.S.] following the instructions of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
    „The Iranians‘ resistance has broken equations made by the U.S. and other world bullying powers,“ Ahmadinejad stressed.
    Regarding the nuclear issue, he said that those who want to enter a dialogue with Iran must know that the country is firm about its principles and will not give up even an iota of its rights and goals.

  25. MEMRI IRANIAN MEDIA BLOG – Criticism Of Ahmadinejad Economic Policies Angers Administration’s Supporters
    Criticism of the economic policies of the administration of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, by Hashemi Rafsanjani, Mohsen Rezai, Danesh-Jafari and Pour-Mohammadi during a seminar on „Privatization: Obstacles and Opportunities,“ held by the Student Basij organization, has enraged the administration’s supporters.
    During the seminar, Rafsanjani said, „The Supreme Leader requested from the Expediency Council in a clear letter to devise policies and strategies in connection with implementation of Article 44 of the Constitution [privatization]. In 2004, when we finished our work, the Supreme Leader approved very quickly… We said give us five years and the government will transfer 20 percent of factories and facilities under its ownership to the private sector every year, the Supreme Leader approved and signed… Another policy the Supreme Leader was more concerned about than us was the issue of dependency on oil. At that time he said that my dream is to celebrate the closure of the last oil well, so we devised a 10-year plan according to which every year the government reduces its dependence on oil by 10 percent.“
    Hashemi Rafsanjani then added, „Five years have passed since that date. The big question that lingers is, how much has this been implemented? Our oil revenues that have been unprecedented in history, how have they been spent? Have we spent them on development? These questions are not related at all to political competitions. Here, we are talking about implementation of Supreme Leader’s policies and these questions must be answered clearly.“
    Reacting to Hashemi Rafsanjani’s speech at the Student Basij seminar, the Raja News website, affiliated with the administration, wrote, „The aforementioned seminar contains discussions and remarks that are devised and voiced only to oppose the Ahmadinejad administration, so much so that the suspicion was that this gathering was organized by reformist groups, but the reality is otherwise.“
    Noting that „the gathering lacked responsible and measured leadership by the Basij,“ Raja News concluded, „holding such gatherings with guest whose only motivation seems to be to blast and question the administration and its policies achieves nothing other than to destabilize the environment and question the performance and service of the present administration.“

    Iranian Joint Chief of Staff Maj.-Gen. Hasan Firouzabadi has criticized the „faction in Majlis and administration colluding with America“ and accused those who support relations with America of being enemy „infiltrators.“
    Firouzabadi, who was speaking to the joint Staff generals, was reacting to recent remarks by Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani indicating „reviewing possible responses to members of American Congress“ by saying, „The danger that threatens the revolution today and at this juncture in time is that the Americans send messages and some people say here that we are reviewing messages from Americans.“
    This military official, who two weeks ago was awarded a Medal of Independence by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, added, „People who say these things are American infiltrators. The reformists said the same things too.“
    What Major General Firouzabadi is criticizing in his interview are apparent attempts in recent weeks by several government officials to establish relations with the U.S.

    The IRGC weekly Sobh-e Sadeq reported that the activities ‎of Los Angeles satellite television networks are beneficial to Iran, and suggested ‎that „officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Cultural Heritage Organization make the ‎necessary preparations to bring the producers of Los Angeles television networks to Iran as a ‎tourist group in light of programs suggested by the president, Dr. Ahmadinejad, as a way to ‎facilitate visits by Iranians living abroad.“ ‎
    The weekly also claimed that the aim of its suggestion is to demonstrate to ‎producers of Los Angeles television networks „progress made by the Islamic Republic, which ‎would erase the memories that they have going back to 30 years ago and entice them to dream of ‎a more developed Iran.“ ‎

    The Iranian news agency Fars has praised the „brave“ act by Iraqi journalist Muntasir Al-Zeidi, who threw a shoe at U.S. President Bush.
    Fars said that this had made Al-Zeidi a symbol in the history of the Muslims and of the oppressed of the world, and that his act was in line with the desire of the nations that have for years longed for symbolic retaliation against the „Great Satan.“
