BERLIN – Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger’s decision to meet with sanctioned Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday triggered criticism from the Austrian Green Party.
While the EU lifted its prohibition against Salehi to allow him to travel, he has been placed on the EU sanction list because of his work on Iran’s illicit uranium enrichment program. According to Austrian media reports, the US and the EU agreed to allow Salehi to travel to Vienna.
Spindelegger said he wants to maintain „open channels of communication“ with Iran, saying human rights in Iran and the country’s nuclear program are topics of discussion. After the meeting, the Austrian Foreign Ministry expressed disappointment with the talks with Iran.
Marco Schreuder, a Green Party representative, slammed the meeting between Salehi and Spindelegger. His party has distanced itself from the decision to give Salehi a diplomatic platform- Ha Ha Ha…

He warned that „any move in line with the Zionist regime’s goals and objectives means committing suicide.“ Ahmadinejad called on neighboring countries to remain vigilant against foreign plotters and to prevent external meddling, according to the report. On Tuesday, Davutoglu met with other Iranian officials as part of his visit saying that regional dynamics meant a „very dynamic transformation process“ in the Middle East. - YOUTUBE – GERMANY: HELPING BLOCK OR FACILITATING IRANIAN NUCLEAR AMBITIONS?

(15. Juli 2011/fa.)
- GLORIA CENTER – A Victory for the Iran-led Coalition
This week, beleaguered Syrian dictator Bashar Assad gave a speech in which he referred to protesters as „vandals“ and re-issued a tired promise of reforms. The speech did nothing to lessen the anger of his opponents, and the uprising against the regime is continuing apace.
Yet in neighboring Lebanon in the same week, the Assad regime and its allies scored a signal achievement.
After 140 days of wrangling, Syria, Hezbollah and its allies held the first meeting of the new, pro-Syrian government in Beirut.
This is an important development that represents a victory for the Iran-led regional coalition. It is also an indication that excited declarations of plans for a „Syria without the Assads“ may be a little premature.
The Iran-led strategicarchitecture in the Levant of which the Assad regime is a part has its own ideas about the direction of events. These do not include its quiet submission to the verdict of history and subsequent departure from the stage.
Syria had a clear interest in ensuring the emergence of a new, pro-Damascus government in Lebanon.
Walid Jumblatt, the currently pro-Syrian Lebanese Druse leader, told the pro-Hezbollah Al-Akhbar newspaper this week that „Assad asked his allies to accelerate the cabinet formation, because [the formation of] a cabinet in Lebanon will diminish the pressure on Syria.“
The new cabinet contains 18 members of the Hezbollah-led March 8 alliance out of a total of 30 ministers.
Such a government will secure Syria’s „western flank.“
Assad may now be assured that the power in place in Beirut firmly supports the suppression of the uprising against him.
In addition, the slow-burning but potent issue of the special tribunal investigating the murder of former prime minister Rafik Hariri is about to return to relevance. -
Was genau planten Sie?

LA TIMES – Human rights abuses are increasing as Tehran’s leaders use public executions to send a message to dissenters. – Why not Iran?
Egypt and Tunisia have overthrown repressive regimes. Citizens in Syria, Yemen and other Middle East countries are demanding change. Yet in Iran, where a wave of 2009 demonstrations helped spark the movements we are now witnessing elsewhere in the Middle East, the populace is strangely silent.
What accounts for the relative quiet in Iran? The answer, at least in part, is that one of the great human rights tragedies of the modern era is underway in Iran.
From the moment the first protesters hit Tahrir Square in Cairo, Iran’s leadership has cracked down hard, instituting a brutal campaign of terror against its own people. The most gruesome manifestation of this repression has been a wave of public executions.
Since January, Iran has been on an execution binge. In February, the United Nations reported that the rate of executions in Iran had increased threefold in 2011 over the previous year. Amnesty International reported that Iran is the only country this year known to have executed juvenile offenders, a violation of international law. And though exact numbers are difficult to come by, it is now estimated by human rights organizations that more than 140 people have been executed in Iran so far this year, a rate that, if continued, would push the number far past the total for 2010. - BRENNSTOFFSPIEGEL – Iran will 18 Milliarden US-Dollar in Erdöl und Erdgas investieren
MOSKAU.

The Kurdish ministry of Peshmerga (the military force operated by Kurdistan Regional Government, or the KRG) accused Iran for seeking to export its crises to the Kurdish province. The statement came in the wake of allegations by a senior Iranian military official that Massoud Barzani, the president of the KRG „has betrayed the Iraqi and Iranian peoples“ by allocating a large swath of land to be used by the Iranian Kurdish opposition PJAK (Party of Free Life) and that Iran reserves the right to take military action inside the Kurdish province.
Iran has been shelling Kurdish villages close to the Iranian border since 2007.
